~Emma's Point of View~

After slipping on jeans and a plain light weight hoodie, I was already ready. Trinity smiled and waved bye to me as I opened the door to leave. I saw Riley pacing outside. He looked a little upset.

Merick motioned for me to follow him. The four of us quietly made it out of the girls dorms. It felt like we were going through a maze. So many turns down halls and so many rooms. I felt like a fifth grader at a college.

We went down the familiar winding staircase and went through the main outer doors. It was bright Spring day outside.

Turning right, we went off the white path and stopped in the middle of the field. Ahead of us was a deep forest. All the trees had cream colored bark and low branches.

The boys sat down Indian style and I mimicked them.

"We're going to figure out what element you have today. Just follow what ever I say and try not to freak out," instructed Merick. I nodded.

"Alright. Now close your eyes," he started. I did what was told.

"Imagine a silver string in front of you. Everything else is dark. Every time you breathe in with your nose, the string lifts up. When you exhale through your mouth, the string lowers. Keep breathing slowly," Merick said.

I felt a little awkward at first but after a few minutes, I was calm and zoned out.

"Good, now focus on your right hand. Keep your eyes closed." Another minute passed by.

"Lift your right hand slowly and breathe in the biggest breath you can. Now let it out and focus outwards on your hand."

The air around me started to change. I felt uneasy now.

"Open your eyes," grinned River.

I now knew that the change in the air was the temperature. It was rising. I stared at my hand.

A few inches above the center of my palm, a small flame was ignite.

I gasped and shock ran through me. The flame disappeared. I started to sweat.

"You're Fire! That's awesome!" exclaimed Riley. River nodded in approval.

"Fire is a powerful element. Hard to control, but very cool," grinned Merick.

I smiled and a warm feeling traveled through me. They liked my element. I was almost just like them.

"So, Riley is water. Merick is darkness. I'm fire. What are you, River?" I asked, cheerfully.

Suddenly I let out a yelp and fell backwards. The earth under me had erupted. The boys were now laughing. I blushed, embarrassed.

"Does that answer your question?" teased River. He smiled at me innocently.

"You meanie," I laughed.

"Now you have to get him back," challenged Merick with a dangerous glint in his eyes. I started to get nervous.

"Try doing it with your eyes open," added Riley.

I focused sharply on my hand. Breathing in, I let it all out. The flame came back but now it was a little bigger.

"Try moving it," said River. My eyes went near where he was sitting. It was really hard for me to move it. A bead of sweat came down the side of my head.

It slowly floated over to him. Riley leaned over and blew it out. They all laughed at me again. I furrowed my eyebrows, mad that they ruined it.

I frowned and looked down. They stopped laughing and looked at me.

Merick raised his hand at Riley. A thick rope of darkness came out and wrapped around his waist. Riley fell back, yelling because it was tightening around him like a snake. He started swearing at Merick. We all laughed at his squirming. He wasn't being hurt though, just toyed with.

"That's it," threatened Riley. He somehow managed to sit up and sent sharp shards of ice at Merick's face. But before it reached him, a mount of earth came up between Riley and Merick and stopped the shards. River seemed like the one who always had to end their fights. Merick released his rope around Riley.

I was shocked at how dangerous their version of "playing around' was.

"I now know not to mess with you guys," I grinned.

"Oh hun, you can mess around with me any time you want," winked Riley. River and Merick shoved him over. It instantly turned into a three way wrestling match, with Riley on the bottom, yelling at how "unfair" it was. I laughed and shook my head at their immaturity.

I looked around the field. The scenery here was so pretty. I squinted my eyes to see the courtyard. Students came out through the doors and sat around. I saw some of them looking at us. I got a little nervous, like I was doing something that I wasn't supposed to be doing.

"Um... are you guys missing....class to be with me?" I asked awkwardly. They all stopped fighting and looked up at me.

"Yes but we don't mind at all. We get the privilege to help new people," said Merick. I nodded. It made sense, they were upperclassmen.

"So, what kinds of classes do we have?" I asked curiously.

River pulled out my folded up schedule from his pocked. He must have took it while I was asleep.

"You have "Elemental History" for your first class," River started, scanning through my schedule. Merick and Riley grimaced and shuttered. I gave them a questioning look.

"Aw man, that sucks for you, Emma. The teacher... she's psycho," stated Riley.

"She might seriously eat you," said River. I started to get nervous.

"What's so bad about her....?" I asked, afraid to know.

"You'll see. What does she have next?" Merick asked River.

"Her second period is "Creatures"," River answered. Riley and Merick smiled and nodded.

"That's one of my favorite classes," said Riley.

"The teachers awesome," added Merick. "Whats next?"

"Third period is "Health and Healing." Fourth is "Control". Fifth is lunch, sixth is "Study Hall", seventh is "Chemistry" and eighth is "Physical Activity".

I sat there, my mind trying to process all this. These are not normal classes.

"..Can you explain to me what those classes are?" I asked, feeling like I knew absolutely nothing.

"Elemental History is the origin of elements and the famous people who controlled them. Creatures is when we get to be with animals. Emma, some animals have elemental abilities too," said Merick.

"Health and Healing is when we get to learn how to heal burn marks or if we get water stuck in our ears. Anything injury dealing with our elements, basically. We also get to learn what affect our elements have on our bodies. Control is a class where we just learn how to handle our elements and not kill ourselves and other people with them. It's a very important class." said River.

"Lunch and Study Hall are pretty much what they sound like. Chemistry is kind of like learning about the gene we all have that gives us these powers. We also get to learn how to combine our elements with other things. It's a hard class. Physical Activity is basically what it sounds like except with elements too," said Riley.

I nodded, trying to remember everything they said.

"Unfortunately, classes are separated by grade level, so we won't be with you," said Merick, sounding sad. My heart stopped. Merick, Riley, and River made up of mainly all the people I know, besides my roommates. I will be so alone and lost.

"But you have Trinity and Ava," said Riley, "Well, you have Trinity," he added, fixing what he said and looking down.

I nodded, trying to seem like I was fine but I was literally biting my tongue. An awkward silence followed. Merick sighed and stood up, making all of us stand.

"Tomorrow will be your first day of classes. They start at eight o'clock. I'm sure Trinity will take you there. You might have the same classes as her," Merick said.

"We gotta get to fourth period now," Riley softly said.

The boys walked me to my room in silence. I kept my head down, not caring about the lovely scenery.
