Tyler woke up to the sound of his mother sobbing, which was never pleasant.

He looked in the direction of the sound, his movements weak. His eyes were blurred, but he didn't feel bad. He felt the opposite of bad. He felt light and carefree, like a bubble. He felt like a bubble. Tyler loved bubbles. Bubble.

He giggled, alerting his family, who were all huddled in the corner. He looked around, noticing that he was in a hospital room but not caring about the matter. He looked to his side and grinned when he saw a heart monitor. He watched it for a while, giggling like a little kid whenever it beeped. His mother stepped forward cautiously, one hand held to her chest and the other outstretched, reaching towards him.

"Ty, are you okay?"

Tyler exhaled heavily and studied his mother, noticing the red around her eyes. "Ma? Why're you cryin'?" He slurred.

Kelly let out a watery laugh. "Don't worry about it, sweetie." She began to stroke Tyler's hair, her motherly warmth making his eyelids feel heavy. "Does anything hurt?"

Tyler shook his head. "'m pretty sure 'm high. Everythin's great. Zack's right 'bout the whole weed thing," he mumbled, not noticing when his mother shot a questioning death glare in Zack's direction.

"You're on pain meds, honey. Do you remember what happened?" Kelly asked, her voice smooth like silk.

Tyler yawned and leant into her touch. He didn't reply. He was too enveloped in the comfort her presence brought to him. He felt like he hadn't experienced it in months, but he didn't know why. He was missing something. Something big. It was twisting in his stomach, leaving hints and cryptic whispers, but he couldn't understand. What was he missing? What was he forgetting?

He shakily brought a hand to his shoulder and felt the bandages wrapped around it, wincing at the touch. He was in a hospital. He was hurt. His family was upset. He brought together the clues, but he couldn't find the answer. It was like trying to solve a puzzle but missing half the box.

"You got shot," Kelly whispered, the words seeming to hurt her. "We were so worried, Ty, but you're okay now. We're so glad you're okay."

There were scattered murmurs of agreement. Tyler looked past his mother. His siblings looked like they didn't want to be there, and Tyler didn't blame them. They were probably confused as hell, and obviously terrified. Tyler froze, catching that thought and desperately trying to rewind. He had remembered something, but it was gone as soon as it came. Why would they be confused? Why had he been shot?

Kelly smiled. "And now you never having to go back to those nasty Russians ever again," she said, speaking as if he was a toddler.

Tyler blinked, his fazed memories slowly recovering, and it was suddenly like he had never even forgotten anything. "Wait- wait a min. I don't like you. 'm mad at you. Where's Josh?"

Kelly looked taken aback. "What? No, you don't have to be with him anymore. You're safe now, sweetie. It's all gonna go back to normal. Just get some rest, okay?"

Tyler shook his head, desperately trying to sober up. "No. No, Mom, I need him where is he?"

Kelly furrowed her eyebrows and looked to Chris. "Tyler, I don't understand. Why do you want Joshua?"

Tyler whimpered as his shoulder began to throb. "Please, Mom. Where is he?"

His heart rate was picking up, which was made pretty clear by the beeping beside him. He shifted, trying to sit up but repeatedly failing. His family looked alarmed, all staring at him with wide, scared eyes. Why were they scared of him? He was making it simple. He wanted Josh. Why weren't they listening?

"Honey, don't you get it?" Kelly said, her eyes willing up with tears. "He's gone. It's all okay now. You don't have to be scared anymore."

Tyler inhaled sharply. "Gone?"

Kelly nodded and cupped her son's face gently. "Mhm. He's going back to Russia."

Tyler's eyes widened. "Gimme my phone."

Kelly looked confused, but she complied anyway. Tyler practically snatched it from her hands. He shook the numbness from his fingers and clicked on Josh's contact, quickly typing out a text.

where are you? i'm in the hospital, i just woke up. i need you.

He stared at his phone, waiting. Waiting.

Josh never replied.
