《Marigold; Adventures of Scarlet Lady and Chat》Chapter 6

Butterflies. They were everywhere. They filled the entire sky, so now, rain couldn't pass between them.

But then, the butterflies did something I've never seen done before. They formed a face.

And then, the face spoke...a sight I don't think I'll ever forget.

"Paris, my name is HawkMoth, and I am here to save you all! Citizens of Paris, haven't you been hurt enough? Chat Noir, Scarlet Lady, haven't you more than proven you're not worthy of being superheroes! Give me your miraculouses, then all the suffering will stop. Or do you just want to keep them for yourself? I mean, what kids wouldn't want to play superheroes?" HawkMoth asked.

Guilt immediately clutched my gut...it was true. I didn't want to give up my miraculous...I'd been my freedom. My get away from my old life. But if it was causing the suffering of all of Paris could I give it up?

It was hard. So, so, so hard...but I knew I had to. If it meant others could be happy, I'd do it.

I reached for my ring, when suddenly a voice called out over the city.

"STOP!" A small girl ran towards the Eiffel tower, then stopped and took a stand, "HawkMoth, don't try to reverse the rolls here! After all, wasn't it you who brought the akumas anyhow? Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady are sacrificing their normal lives to save us! How can you say this is their fault? That makes me sick! I stand behind my city's superheroes. And I hope the people of Paris will have the sense to stand with me!" She shouted. News helicopters flew above us, videotaping everything she said.

As she finished, a bolt of lightning suddenly struck from the heavens about fifteen feet from Marinette. For a moment, she was bathed in bright red light and shadow making her almost look like...well, a lot like Scarlet Lady.

Then, thousands of voices began chanting, "Chat Noir! Scarlet Lady! Chat Noir! Scarlet Lady!"

I glowed with pride, and looked to where Marinette stood. She didn't cheer. Instead, she glared at HawkMoth with balled fists. It was obvious she wanted to run at him and attack, but she restrained herself.

Another crash of thunder, and the blue in her eyes glinted.

My heart was suddenly in my head, and I could feel myself blush.

"I don't know much about that girl...but I know love her," I whispered.

Suddenly, Scar ran forward from where she'd been hiding, and opened her yoyo. She attempted throwing it a couple of times, but messed up. Finally, she got the hang of it and started catching the akumas in it, twenty at a time. Soon, there wasn't a single akuma left.

Then, she stood at the base of the Eiffel Tower. Marinette walked over to where I stood, her hands on her hips as she watched.

Scar began to speak, "Wonderful people of Paris! I have a promise for you! It's that I, Scarlet Lady, will always be here to protect you! No matter the danger! No matter the risks!"

Marinette leaned over a softly whispered, "Don't those mean the same thing?"

I stifled a laugh.

"I, Scarlet Lady, the greatest, most amazing superhero of Paris, will defeat HawkMoth! And save the world!!!"

I groaned, "Seriously Scar? Not a mention? Not a footnote?" I muttered.

Marinette frowned, "She should have said something about you. You've worked just as hard, if not harder, as she has."

Then Scar opened her yoyo and thousands of white butterflies immerged. It would have been a more spectacular sight if the force of the butterflies emerging hadn't knocked her off her feet.

Even as Marinette looked straight ahead, I turned to her and smiled, then I gave her a bow as she turned to me, "I'm afraid I gotta go. So many people to save! Damsels in distress, ladies in waiting, the usual. I'll see you around!" I said, giving her a wink as she ran off.

I wasn't certain, but I could've sworn she whispered, "Please be safe, Chat Noir."

...

I held onto Ivan and Mylen as we floated down from the top of the Eiffel Tower with the use of the parachute lucky charm. When we landed, Scarlet Lady walked forward, the white butterfly that was once StoneHeart's akuma flying away.

"Well my amazing fans, I'm afraid your superheroine must retire! Until next time my lovelies!" Scar called towards a camera.

Then she threw her yo-yo. It landed two inches away from her. Annoyed, she tried again and again. Finally, it did what she wanted it to...but the force was too much, and it sent her flying through the sky, her screams dimming out as she got farther and farther away.

Marinette suddenly ran up, and hugged Mylen, "Are you okay?" She asked, checking her friend over.

Mylen nodded, "A little bit stunned, but I'm fine."

Marinette nodded, then to my surprise, she turned to me, "Are you okay?"

I could feel my words die inside my mouth, but I tried anyway, "Yu-Ye-Yo-Yes. Yes, I'm fine."

She smiled, "Good...oh...," She bent down and picked up a piece of paper.

She uncrumpled it, and glanced knowingly as Ivan walked forward to Mylen.

I didn't hear what she said, but I knew in the end, they both looked really awkward. That is, until Marinette handed Mylen then piece of paper with a wink.

Then she walked back towards me.

"Good work, Chat Noir. You saved Paris...thank you," she said, bowing her head respectfully.

I smiled and tried to be witty, "All in a day's work. I am the best of the best!"

Marinette laughed and scrunched up her nose, "I think modesty might suit you better than pride," Her eyes twinkled, "But I guess you are technically the best...considering we only have two superheroes in Paris...and the other one is kinda a pain."

I nodded, "Yes, the trials of being the only one who understands my burden! Oh, the trial of it!"

Marinette laughed again, "But you love it, don't you," It wasn't a question.

I nodded, "If you mean all the girls fainting over my heroism and biceps," I said, striking a pose, "then yes, I do love that part!"

Suddenly, my ring beeped.

I looked down at it, "I think that's your cue to go," Marinette said, wringing her hands.

I nodded, and took her hand, kissing it, "Goodbye, Purrincess."

"Princess?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, you have to be a princess, since I'm your prince!"

She smiled, "Why, you're quite the flirt, aren't you Prince Kitty?"

"Guilty as charged!" Then, I extended my stick, "Until next time."

I watched her wave, and say something I didn't catch...but I like to imagine she said something like, "Until next time, prince kitty."

...

I stood outside the school...it was raining again. Great, I'd have to walk home in the rain.

Suddenly, Adrien was beside me.

I was about to say hi, when I remembered what Chloe had said...

'Adrien's just being nice to you because he doesn't know how else to behave! Why would he want to be friends with such a low life as you? You're nothing! So, do him a favor, and leave him alone!'

I looked down.

"Hey, Marinette!" He said cheerfully. I didn't answer.

Then, Adrien bent down so I could see him, "Hey...I don't know what Chloe said...maybe about me being rich or something...but that doesn't change me. It's not like I'm better than you, than anyone in fact! I...I've never been to school before...never really had any friends. It's all kinda...new to me. But I think you're an awesome girl, Marinette...and I think I'd be really cool if we were friends!" Then, he held out his black umbrella to me.

I looked up, stunned. Then, a wide grin broke out over my face, and I took the umbrella, "Thank you, Adrien...I'd love to be your friend!"

He smiled so genuinely and so happily, that my heart somewhat melted, "Would you like me to walk you home?" He asked.

I nodded, "That'd be great."

So we both crowded under the umbrella, and started walking towards my house, "You know, you make my third friend," Adrien commented.

I smiled, "Well you know what they say, third time's the charm! Maybe it's a sign that you've gotten this whole friendship thing down."

Adrien laughed. We continued to walk and talk.

Master Fu stood under his own umbrella watching Marinette and Adrien go. Suddenly, a lady in a purple raincoat and white umbrella walked over to him, "Hello Fu."

He frowned bowing his head in respect, "Good lady....I've done it, haven't I?"

The lady nodded, "You've thrown this whole timeline off balance. Now, I have to try and fix it."

"Lady Universe, what can I do to help?" Fu asked.

The Lady smiled, her golden eyes glinting, "Give me the bee miraculous. I think we both know who it needs to go to."

Fu watched as Marinette and Adrien disappeared from sight, "We do."

Lady Universe sighed dreamily, "They really are perfect together, aren't they?"

Fu smiled, "Not perfect...but close enough. And somehow, their imperfections makes them all the more perfect."

The lady gave a rich laugh, and the rain suddenly stopped, all the clouds quickly blowing away to reveal a sunny Perisian sunset.

"I couldn't agree more, Fu. Now come. We have work to do."
