Conner sat down, looking around at Bree's apartment. Conner took off his jacket, hanging it up on her coat rack.

"What kind of hat is that?" Bree asked, laughing.

Conner pulled off his beanie, rolling his eyes.

"It's a beanie, stupid." Conner replied.

"A beanie? That's a weird name." Bree said.

She hung up her coat and sat down next to Conner, stretching her arms back, yawning.

"So tell me, what is Conner Bailey like?" Bree said.

"I'm pretty average. I go to college, I write, have no social life. I think you get the general picture." Conner replied.

"So basically, everything a woman could ever hope for." Bree said dryly.

"And more." Conner joked, raising his eyebrows.

"Well, I also go to college and write. I work part-time at a coffee shop, as you know, and I live here." Bree said, gesturing around her apartment.

Conner nodded, awkwardly looking around the room.

"You should come down to the beach with me sometime." Bree said.

"Didn't we meet at the beach?" Conner asked.

"Not at night. It's completely different at night. The stars are out, and the waves crash down on beach. It's really calming, trust me. I fell asleep out there once." Bree answered.

Conner knocked on the doorway, waiting for the oak door to open. Bob answered the door, noticing the obviously distraught Conner.

"Charlotte? I think you'd better come over here." Bob called.

Conner's sister, Alex came down the stairs, followed closely by her fiancee, Arthur.

"Where's Bree?" Alex asked.

Bob shot her a dirty look, nodding in Conner's general direction.

Conner sat down on a nearby chair, staring blankly at the wooden coffee table.

"I left my glasses in the kitchen. I'll go grab them." Alex said, dragging Arthur with her.

"Conner, what happened?" Charlotte asked.

A range of emotions flickered across Conner's face, first depression, followed by anguish, then despair. His emotions finally settled on anger, as Conner got up from his chair, rattling the table.

"Bree and I got in a fight about a week ago. She stormed out and didn't come back. I waited a day or two for things to cool down, then I bought her something from Destrat's." Conner began

"Destrat's?" Bob asked, confused.

"It's a jewelry store on the corner of 5'th and 6'th." Charlotte whispered.

"So I went to the coffee shop where she works, trying to find her. She was there with this other guy. I walked over to her and tried to talk to her, but she acted like she didn't even know me. It was all what can I get you sir. I understand why she's mad, but I didn't think she would ever do anything like this. I could see other people being this spiteful, but it's so out of character for Bree. " Conner said, sinking back into his chair.

Charlotte and Bob glanced at each other, speaking through their eyes only as old married couples can do.

"What?" Conner asked, looking from one parent to the other.

Charlotte shook her head, rubbing her temples.

"It's nothing, Conner. I'm sorry about all this, I don't know why Bree would do that to you." Charlotte said.

"Dammit, Charlotte. He isn't a child anymore, tell him." Bob said.

"Tell me what?" Conner asked, confused.

Bob walked over to a nearby cabinet, opening a drawer close to the bottom. He dug through the drawer, pulling out a small white note card. He closed the drawer, handing the note card to Conner. Conner turned the card over, reading the single sentence written on the paper.

"What the hell?" Conner asked.

"It was put in our mailbox, nothing written on the envelope, no return address, no names, nothing." Bob said.

"What does this even mean? You can't erase memories. Not even Alex's magic can do that." Conner said, examining the note card.

"We weren't sure if it was some kind of prank until you told us about your encounter with Bree." Charlotte said

Conner walked into the kitchen, where Alex and Arthur were cooking something on the stove.

"Hey Conner, what's going on?" Alex asked, concerned.

"Since you're our resident magician, you would know if there was a way to erase memories, right?" Conner asked.

"I.. suppose so, yeah." Alex answered, slightly taken aback.

"Is there anything that can do that?" Conner asked.

"Not to my knowledge, I don't think it's possible to alter memories. Besides, I think it's better to remember what you two had instead of trying to forget, no matter what happened." Alex advised.

"No, it's not for... nevermind." Conner said.

Conner walked into his sister's room, looking over her science table, full of test tubes and other geeky stuff. He reached for one of her many flashlights when Alex walked in.

"Just what are you trying to do with that?" Alex asked, pointing to the black light flashlight he was holding.

"I'm looking for...." Conner trailed off, shining the light onto the note card.

"What?" Alex asked, looking over Conner's shoulder at the paper.

The slip of paper now read:

"You have been erased from Breanne Campbell's memory?" Alex read, shocked.

"That's not the important bit." Conner said, staring at the address.

"How is that not important?!" Alex asked.

"The black light revealed the address of the memory erasing place." Conner answered.

"So what? Her memory is still erased." Alex pointed out.

"So, I'm gonna go investigate." Conner replied.

Conner switched on the radio as he slowly made his way through the thick traffic. He turned the dial, trying to find a good station. All that seemed to be on was various talk shows, something Conner happened to despise. He slowly eased into a parking spot across the street from a small building marked as 12 Willowmarsh Lane. Conner leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He climbed out his car, carefully crossing the street. He peered through the glass window. He opened the door and a rush of cold air blasted him in the face as he entered the dimly lit building. He looked around, trying to find some sign of life, but there was only an empty chair and a desk covered in dust.

"Hello?" Conner called, looking around the empty building.

There was no reply. Conner walked over to the desk and started to inspect it, opening its drawers, to no avail. They were filled with ordinary office supplies, note cards, pens, and so on. Conner opened the last drawer, which was the largest one. It was filled with files upon files, rows of them extending as far into the drawer as he could see. He quickly skimmed the files until he found the one under Campbell, Bree. He gingerly picked it up, as if handling a bomb. Conner set the file down on the desk, carefully opening it up. It contained a series of papers, a few items Conner had given her on their travels, and an old fashioned cassette tape. Conner looked around the room, searching for a cassette tape player to listen to her recording. There was a cassette tape player/recorder in one of the desks he had opened, probably the same one Bree had used to record her message. He slid in the tape, nervously awaiting the familiar sound of her voice.

The recording slowly fizzled out. Conner staggered, leaning against a wall for support. A strange chime sounded from a small silver box on the desk, startling Conner. A note card slid out of it, reading:

Conner stared at the note card for a second, realizing the situation he was in. He looked around the room, trying to see who was sending the notes.

Conner's eyes widened and he bolted out the door, running to his car and locking the doors. He pulled out of the parking spot, trying to put as much distance as he could between him and whatever that was.
