《》Chapter 12

We sat in silence waiting for Alex to return, we were all on our feet, ready to run if we were out-numbered. Ross stood on my left, his fingers laced with mine and his eyes glare on the main door. Chris was on my right, also eyeing the door with caution, just in case it was not Alex who opened it.
Suddenly our ears perked up in unison as fast footsteps made their way into the room, it was Alex.
"How many?" Chris asked, his head lowered ready to attack. "Four warriors, one Alpha, we should make a run for it." Alex answered and we all nodded, hearing the deep howl of the Alpha already on its way.
We started running, all of us straight out of the back door and towards the mountains on the other side of the city. Alex made the right decision, if we were to strive for peace slaughtering an Alpha would not be appropriate.
"THEY ARE AFTER US, SPLIT UP!" Ross barked through the air and we did as we were told. Chris took right, Ross took left, Alex took centre right and I took centre left. They couldn't follow all of us.
My legs pounding against the forest earth as I darted through the air, the mountains were right in my line of sight.
Suddenly I felt Alex accidently slam into my side and we both flew into some oak wood trees amidst the dark woods.
"Are you alright?" Alex whispered and I nodded, but as soon as we both stood we heard growling in make it's way towards us.
There was no use in running now, we had to fight.
"They've got us." I telepathically sent to Ross and I knew he was on his way. He might not get here fast enough though.
Three large wolves emerged from the dark hedges and snarled in our direction. Alex looked at me with a smirk, he always enjoyed a fight he knew he could win.
I grinned back and released my fangs, as did he. We glared back at the wolves and hissed, daring them to make the first move.
One of them pounced forward at me but I caught it mid jump and bit its head off. The other two had gone for Alex but in no time he had ripped out their hearts.
Unfortunately, wolves never travelled alone, five more followed, one being the Alpha back at the house.
I felt warm arms encircle my waist and a low hiss fired at the Alpha, it was Ross. His eyes were burning blue and his fangs were prominent, giving off his dominance.

The Alpha morphed back into his human form and held his right hand up in a halt. His pack of mutts morphed at his command, and we retracted our fangs.
"Now now, vamps. Let's not make this any harder." The Alpha taunted but we didn't back down. We'd never back down to these over-sized pets.
"What do you want?" Chris asked calmly, stepping forward with his hands in his pockets and a hard stare set on the Alpha.
"I think you know what, leech. We want her!" The Alpha pointed at me and I hissed.
Yeah right, not a chance.
"Over my burnt body, she belongs to me!" Ross snarled and the Alpha physically flinched. Ross was not wrong, I was bound to him for eternity.
"That may be true, but she is still owned by Sebastian." The Alpha gave me a sickening smile that made my gut twist. I never want to hear that name ever again.
"We don't care who Sebastian thinks he owns, she is not going with you." Alex growled in return and the Alpha sighed.
"Sebastian won't like that, not one bit. He always gets what he wants." The Alpha grinned at me again and I felt Ross' arms leave me.
In a second Ross hand the Alpha by the throat, almost three feet off the ground. The Alpha struggled in his gasp, dense fear clouding his eyes as Ross tightened his grip.
"If you speak one more word, blood-bag, I'll split your skull. Darcy is mine, she belongs to me, Sebastian will NEVER have her, do I make myself clear?" Ross snapped with so much dominance it made my knees weak.
The Alpha nodded his head, embarrassment covering his features from being disgraced in front of his pack. Ross threw him to the ground and stood over him, the mutt pulling himself to his feet and running back the way he came with his tail between his legs, along with his petty pack.
We continued our way to the mountain, we had a little hide-out there where we could always be out of harm's way.
Once we arrived Ross went straight for our room, I could feel his anger radiate off of him. I looked at Chris and Alex who raised their eyebrows at me.
"What?" I asked with confusion, both of them giving me a knowing grin. "Shall we leave for a while or just use ear-plugs?" Alex chuckled and my eyes widened.
"Oh go fuck yourselves." I grinned back and sprinted up the stairs into our bedroom.
As I closed the dark wood door behind me I took in the room before me, it was my favourite bedroom out of all our bedrooms in all our houses.

The floorboards were a black old wood with a pure white rug covering the centre of the floor. The walls were a cream colour, the ceiling coated in black paint and the curtains were black too. To the left of the bed, which was located in the centre of the room, was a set of small draws with a white lamp on top. To the right of the bed was a tall wardrobe, made of very old blue spruce wood. The bed was mainly white and black with silver spirals stitched into the duvet and pillows.
At the foot of the bed sat my beloved, his head lowered and his arms hanging loosely between his legs. He was wearing a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans, he never liked wearing anything light in case we needed to hide. Much like Ross, I was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and black denim shorts, they were easier to run in.
I walked over slowly and stood in front of Ross. I cupped his jaw with my left hand and carefully lifted his head so he was gazing into my eyes. His arms quickly wrapped around my waist as he pulled me to straddle his thighs.
His head gently laid on my chest as I stroked his dark hair, this was always the best way of calming him down.
"You'd never leave me for him, right?" Ross whimpered as he stared up at my longingly. My eyebrows furrowed and I gave him a scolding look.
"Don't even think about it! I could never do that to you even if I wanted to, you are mine and I am yours, okay?" I hissed back and he smirked and nodded his head.
In a second I was thrown onto the bed and Ross was above me, his lips taking over my own and a new warmth spreading threw my body.
"Oi, keep it down, yeah?" We heard Alex shout but we all knew that only made Ross want to be as loud as possible more.
-----
"Morning, any sign of them?" I asked as I tumbled weakly down the stairs, a vampire can bruise too, especially if you have Ross as a soul mate.
"Not one paw out of line, and ouch, need a hand there?" Alex grinned at my from the kitchen table, blood bag in one hand. I gave him the finger and settled on the chair across from him.
"Just because you are jealous, Alexander." I mused and Alex squinted his eyes at me. To be fair though, it was Alex's decision to not be active in the bedroom, any woman would sell her soul to sleep with him.
"DARCY, LADS, GET OUT HERE!" Chris screamed from outside and in an instant, even though my thighs still ached, we all appeared beside Chris.
Before I could ask what was wrong, Chris pointed down at the edge of the forest, just at the foot of the mountain path.
My mouth was agape as I stared at the pile of bodies, dead, bloody bodies. We all ran down to investigate closer. There was a note next to the pile of bodies which I picked up.
"Bring her to me, or there will be more."
There was no doubt in who could have written it, I knew immediately. And so did the brothers.
We all took a step back as Ross' eyes darkened and his fangs flew out.
"How could he?" Was all Ross said as he stared agonisingly at the bodies of young teenage girls, around the same age as I was.
I turned to Chris and my cold heart almost broke. Chris looked in pain at the sight of the dead corpses. Chris, unlike his brothers, adored humans. He would never drink from them and would risk his life for the species.
"Ross... We should-" Before Chris could continue Ross hissed back at him, causing Chris to flinch away as his little brother drowned in anger.
"He will not have her, if I ever see that poor excuse of a vampire again I'll turn him into ash." Ross' iced threat made me shiver.
This wasn't far, it's been a year since we left that night. And after he... To poor Dimitri... I swore to never speak his name as long as I walked this earth.
But I do not want innocent lives to be taken because that monster couldn't let me go.
"What do you suggest then? Hm? I love Darcy too but this is insane Ross! Who knows how many he had already and is willing to murder?" Alex shrieks at Ross. He was right.
Ross sighs and looks at me in protest, so, I decide to make a deal.
"Okay look, we go to see him. If he decides to use violence, me use violence and I don't care if you kill him, in fact, I'd be glad. We do not stay longer than an hour, okay?" I announce and Ross reluctantly nods his head.
And with that, we run.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week.
