《Runaway》Part 8 - Maya

"Just wait here while I go check in." I nod as Hudson closes the door, leaving me alone in the cab. I watch his strong muscular thighs as he walks towards the only dilapidated building surrounded by dozens of rigs, trucks and RVs. He disappears inside, and I'm left twiddling my thumbs.

I keep thinking Nick might have followed us here, but the campground was a good half-hour drive back on the interstate and down a obscured narrow road. If you weren't looking for a place to park for the night, you'd probably drive right by it.

When Hudson reappears, I let the breath I didn't know I was holding in. I scramble to the door and jump into his arms before he even reaches for the door.

"Someone's happy to see me," his smile is bright, and I can't help myself as he holds me up in the air. I lean down and kiss his cheek. His smile immediately vanishes, and he places me down on the ground.

Hurt washes over me as he steps around me to lock the door. "I'm sorry," I say as he begins to walk away.

Hudson pauses in his tracks. He turns and walks back, but he keeps a distance that wasn't there before. "Maya, you have nothing to be sorry for. It's me who should be apologizing."

"What? Why?" He turns around, and I scramble to keep up with his long legs. "Hudson?"

"Just forget about it, Maya." He doesn't turn around.

I'm even more confused than ever. What did I do? What is he sorry for? For helping me? Does he regret it? None of it makes any sense.

Hudson climbs into a large black truck, and I follow suit. Inside it smells of pine and beer. A smell I'm all too familiar with. It makes my stomach feel even worse. I crank the window and let the breeze blow away the stench as we make our way back onto the interstate.

"Since we didn't get to eat this morning, I thought we could stop somewhere for lunch?"

Why is he sorry? I twirl the ends of my long blonde hair.

"Maya?"

Maybe he doesn't find me attractive? Or what if he thinks of me like a daughter? My heart plummets. This feeling of love is all so new to me, and I don't want it to end.

"Earth to Maya!" Hudson's voice pulls me out of my downward spiral.

"Huh, did you say something?"

He lets out that deep laugh again, and I can feel the heat pooling more intensely in my core; there's something wet dripping down my inner thigh onto my already damp panties.

"I asked if you want to get lunch?"

We've driven into a small town. A couple of minutes away from where we parked the rig.

"Sure,"

"What do you feel like?"

"I dunno. What do you want?"

"Maya,"

"What?" I turn to look at him. His brow is narrowed, and his jaw is tight.

"You're doing it again, deflecting." He glances at me, and I'm instantly reassured he's not angry at me.

"Sorry," he growls, and I tighten my thighs. "I'm being honest, though. I'm not sure what's good to eat. I've never eaten out before."

"Of course," he says begrudgingly to himself. Pissed at whoever raised this poor girl. "Tell me this what's your first craving that comes to mind?"

Instantly I think of his arms wrapped around me and his solid form tight against mine, but if I say that out loud, I'm sure he'll get mad. So, I think of food instead.

"Chocolate," I say with certainty.

Hudson looks at me, then laughs. "Well, as much as I like chocolate as the next person. I don't think it qualifies as a meal. How about for dessert? I know a place that has excellent chocolate cheesecake!"

"Okay!" I try and keep the slivers of hurt from my voice.
