《Mr Grumpy - DISCONTINUED AND BEING RE-WRITTEN》Chapter 26- The Scare

"Honey are you alright?" I faintly heard my mothers voice from afar. Why was she asking that?
Where was I?
"Sweetheart open those eyes for us." My father cooed and I heard a screech that sounded like a chair scraping against the floor.
What was happening?
I gradually got control of my body and one by one my eyes flickered open. I stared around me, I was still sitting at the table; my fork in my hand, mom's wine bottle was now half empty.
"Honey?" My mom's concern face came into my sight. She was out of her chair and right in front of my face.
I got a bit of a fright actually. Her eyes moved frantically over my face. She caressed my cheek and pecked my forehead.
Mommy's kisses are the best of kisses.
I froze.
A shudder ran through my body.
Moms eyes scanned over my face frowning. "What's wrong honey?"
My eyes darted from my mother to my father who carefully watched me. He raised his brow not lifting a gaze off me. "N-Nothing. I'm just really tired."
She didn't believe me so I faked a smile. She then slowly let my face go and walked back to her seat.
"Don't stay up late reading books anymore honey. You are loosing sleep. Do you want your father to prescribe some sleeping pills for you?"
I continued on fake smiling. "Oh no I'm fine. I'm just gonna have a nap or something. Thank you for the lovely dinner mom."
"No problem honey." She grinned and poured her more of that wine that seemed never ending.
I got up and dropped my fork onto my plate then picked the plate up.
"Alright pumpkin." I flinched as the word pumpkin came out of my dad's mouth. He gave me an award winning smile and resumed his eating. He looked like he could do no wrong.
After quickly washing my dishes I scurried to my room faster than I have ever done. I was quite surprised to see that I hadn't fallen over the railings.
I felt calmness once I stepped into my room. I don't know why? But when ever I came into my room, the grinning couldn't stop. I glanced at my Flynn Ryder poster and sat on the edge of my bed.
Meow. Meow.
I looked down to a whiny Alex, he rubbed his fluffy head against my calves. A giggle escaped me and I reached down to pick up the whining creature.
"Hey Alex." I gently rubbed his beautiful fur coat and watched him purr under my hands.
He began to push his paws into the bed to make himself more comfortable. After a few minutes he finally settled down and laid his body down.
I suddenly began thinking of that daydream or dream whatever. What the heck was that about? Whatever I daydreamed about scared me.
Not once has my dad hurt or yelled at me. He was the kindest man I have ever met. Dad never looked at me with disgust. Or even sneered at me. The closest his come to growling me is when I almost hit moms pots.
I felt my eyes tear up as I thought about my dream. Which I hope is actually just a dream.
I got up and walked to one of my closets and searched through one of my wooden box that had some of my photos.
The wooden box was medium size with an attached lid to it. On the top was my loopy writing saying memories #1. I held the box to my chest and walked and sat on my rug.

I giggled as I went through the photos of my friends, family, greenery. I nearly laughed when I got hold of a photo of Bethany, Reece, Cam and I.
This was taken about two years ago at this foam festival down the road. Bethany was rolling her eyes with a massive grin while her whole body was covered in foam. I was covered from head to toe with pink foam. Cam and Reece had matching foam beards grinning and holding us.
"I love this photo." I mumbled to myself as I remembered how fun this day was. The foam festival was probably one of my favourite festivals.
I dug deeper into my box and dropped all the printed photos onto my lap. The light weightless paper settled onto my lap as I went through each one laughing or making awh sounds.
I then noticed that I didn't really have much photos of myself below the age of 6. I mean there were a a lot of baby pictures of me but once I got to the age of 3, the photos lessen.
I frowned as I went through the amount of photos throughout my childhood.
My fingers froze on one of the photos and a soft gasp of disbelief escaped me. I held the photo tightly and noticed how old the photo was, the edges were a light brown faded colour, almost stained.
It was me!
It was me on what I assumed was Hallowe'en. Just like in my dream, the tiara wearing pumpkin was awkwardly held in my hands. My tiny hands struggled to hold the pumpkin.
I looked about 4 years old and had a missing tooth. I looked closer and noticed that I had brown hair in this picture. When the heck did I have brown hair?
I squinted my eyes making sure that I was seeing the brown hair. I was wearing a white witch outfit. A wooden broom laid next to me as I grinned widely at the camera. I noticed my mom in the corner of the photo.
How come I don't remember this day?
Was I fretting over remembering nothing?
I dropped the photo watching it float down with the help of gravity. I rubbed my chin as I thought about the mysterious photo and daydreams.
Was that really my dad? And why couldn't remember anything about this day?

"I think I'm pregnant."
No one said anything. Our mouths dropped all the way to the ground. I was sure of it.
An eerie silence blanketed us. It was a silence that gave us shivers. I peaked at everyone's expression.
Cam almost choked on his skittles. He gulped them down struggling to breathe. I could see it. He held onto his throat as if to help. Choking on rainbows.
Betsy covered her face and didn't say a word. She shook her head back and forth. Her body moved as well and she turned towards Cam.
Bethany gulped. Her eyes, on their own accord widened to a point I thought thy were about to fall out. Could they even do that?
Alex purred loudly. He began licking his paws watching us all. Meow. He lazily stretched out in front of me.
Reece on the other hand was frozen. Solid as a block of ice. His hands clenched up so hard I thought they might crack. He let out a shaky puff of air. He glared and he snarled like a angry feral beast.
"What the hell!" Reece hoarsely said as he stared at my purple fluffy pillow. Poor pillow.

We were still all gobsmacked.
"I said I think I might be pregnant." She croaked out and rubbed her throat. "I'm late of my period and I've been vomiting lately."
Bethany's eyes pooled up as she avoided eye contact with us. She just caressed her thigh as to distract her.
Reece didn't say a word he just left my room.
Bethany looked like he had kicked her puppy. She tried to form words but the tears streaking down her face swallowed them.
"Hey, how about I go to the store and I'll buy some pregnancy tests? So we know for sure. You might just be a bit stressed. " Betsy gave Bethany a comforting smile and patted her shoulder. Beth sniffed and nodded at her.
"I'm just gonna talk to Reece." I whispered still shocked about Bethany's news.
After a few minutes I finally found Reece who sat by one of the trees in my yard. The tree was massive and wide, it slanted down and covered us. The leaves falling every so often.
He didn't say a word to me for a while as I sat next to him. This tree was probably Reece and I's favourite spot in the world. There were many sleepless nights where we would just cuddle under blankets talking about our fears.
He shook a rock in his hands as he stared straight at the farm behind my house. A thin steel line fence separated the farm and my backyard. I watched the cows lazily chew the grass occasionally letting out a moo.
I kept quiet because honestly I didn't know what to do. Or say. Bethany's new shocked me to the core. I never would have thought that she would be so careless to fall pregnant. It's one thing to carelessly sleep with men, but to not be protected? That was a whole other story?
I let out a sigh and grabbed Reece's clenched fist. He unclenched them slowly allowing me to intwine them. I tightened my hand on his.
The wind was a bit rowdy but I wasn't complaining. It felt amazing through my hair.
"I'm in love with her." He said lowly. His voice was hoarse and sad.
I gaped at him and pulled him closer to me. "What?"
He turned his head towards mine. His curly locks were all over the place because he still hasn't has a haircut. "I've been in love with Bethany for all my life. Since I've first laid eyes on that beautiful lady. I used to write love notes but always ended up throwing them away. I hinted all the time. She took it in a friendly way. I held her hair for her when she spewed up after getting hammered. I picked her up when she needed to go somewhere. I bought her lunch when she forgot hers. I made her smile and laugh when she cried her heart out about her dad. I used to take her to the rangers when she needed to get her mind off something at 2am. I even gave her my football jersey."
How did I not realise that my best friend loved my other best friend?
His eyes were so sad as he stared at me and I wanted to cry, fall apart even. Reece was always the one I went to when I was sad, he always made everything and everyone happy and loved. I didn't realise that he was hurting or sad.
"I was so angry when I found out that she actually liked Jasper. I mean for her to lust over someone was common. But she went as far as liking him. And now she's pregnant with that idiot."
He dropped his head down into his hands and I grabbed him closer wrapping my arms around him. My heart ached for Reece.
I didn't say anything wise like in the books because what did I know about love? Nothing.
"It's going to be okay Reece. It's going to get better." Even I cringed at my cliche words that came out my mouth. But that was the only thing I could say as I sat there consoling my best friend.
* * * *
Tick Tock.
"How long is this supposed take?" Bethany groans and wipes her tear streaked face. She sits on the toilet seat and fidgets.
All the guys were downstairs watching some thing on the TV as us girls stood frustrated in the bathroom.
"8 minutes." Betsy huffs and drums her nails on my walls.
Tick Tock.
Bethany's skin was pale and blotchy. Her eyes were a puffy and red mess. And her hair was put into a loose knot on top of her head. I've always seen her looking perfect with her makeup and hair curled. I was shocked that this was my best friend.
"Oh my gosh what am I gonna tell Jasper or my mom? Oh my gosh she's going to disown me and cut Jaspers balls off."
The bathroom silence was eerie. The was only the clock sounds.
Tick Tock.
Betsy went to her and soothingly rubbed her back. Why was Betsy consoling her and I-her best friend- wasn't?
I just didn't know what to say actually. The fact that Reece has been in love with Bethany since ever left me flabbergasted. And now in less 8 minutes we would see if there was a life in her belly.
Tick Tock.
"It's time Beth."
If so, Bethany's faced paled even more as she snatched the five tests from my counter. She quickly scanned them as she clutched them.
Betsy and I both held our breaths as we waited for a sign. Bethany's face was void of any expression, her tears became constant rolling stones.
She dropped them onto the floor and rubbed her hand over her face. My heart dropped at her vulnerable sight.
"Five strong negatives. I'm not pregnant." She says and gleams at us. She jumped up and wrapped her arms around us. "I'm not pregnant, mom's not gonna disown me and Jasper isn't going to be ball less."
She let out a relief sigh and so did we. We all knew that Bethany was in no way ready to raise a child. This pregnancy scare was quite a scare.
* * * *
True to those five pregnancy tests Bethany got her period the following week and gloated it to everyone who walked past her. It wasn't a pretty sight when she told every single person.
Reece however has been avoiding Bethany for a whole week now. I mean he still sits with the squad and talks to us, but when it comes to Beth he ignores her and changes the subject.
Betsy and Cam are together and are always sharing food, I know, it took a couple of days for people at school to get over this. But yeah I'm happy that they are together, they are soo cute. Cetsy for life.
Jasper has been here and there, he apparently has some scouts coming to his game in two weeks, so he has been at training 24/7. He apparently doesn't know about the pregnancy scare.
"Hey girl what you doing here?" He towelled his wet glass in his hands. Raising his brows at me he place the glass back onto the shelf.
"Um I'm looking for Mr Smalley? I mean Joe." I let out a soft laugh after and sat on my stool.
The ladies that sung two weeks ago sang again a bouncy beat song. They were a bit off tune, but I liked them. They swayed to their voices and grinned.
Arrow nods. He slides a clear glass of green liquids across to the same green toothless guy. In recognition the toothless green guy winked at me and I nearly dropped my camera.
"Yeah Joe's taking a leak. That man got some bladder issues probably." Arrow gave a hoarse laugh as he bent down to retrieve a handful of lemons.
I watched him slice the yellow fruit with awe. He used that knife so amo
"Aye girly, you brought those delights again huh?"
A huge smile came over my face and I twirled on my seat to face Mr Smalley who had on a bright orange jumpsuit.
"Mr Smalley!"
"Joe." He corrected me and I offered him a shrug. "What you doing here?"
"I brought delights." He gladly took the flimsy box out of my hands. I giggled as he greedily took a cupcake out of it.
Soon his mouth was a red crumby mess. His lips formed a small pout and wobbled his way onto a chair next to mine.
"Damn, Arrow try one of these." Joe's voice was still a scruffy high pitched voice, his bony fingers jabbed the box of red velvet cupcakes forward.
Arrow chuckles softly as he reaches inside and grabs one. He stares at me incredulously and bit down on the cupcake. Soon after a moan was itched out.
"It's good." He nods at me.
"So girl what's up? You still in school right?" Joe asks as he sips his beer.
"Well it's been alright. I recently joined the environmental club and the next meeting is tomorrow."
"Cool. Save the weed kinda club? I mean I could use a blunt right now." Arrow moans and serves a drink to a guy next to me.
I smiled at him. "Well actually yes, we do get rid of the weeds in our school."
He stopped cutting a lemon and stared at me. "Girl, I'm not talking about flower weeds, I'm talking about a fat blunt, you know getting high?"
My mouth dropped in realisation. "Oh! Not that kind of weed Arrow! That's bad for you."
He chuckled, I blushed bashfully. "Dayum Joe, I thought high school students do all crazy things."
"Well not this girl. She's too innocent."
I blushed under the attention they were both giving me. I giggled.
"Where's his money!?" A loud voice boomed out in the bar. Because it was the afternoon not many people were here. However the ladies kept singing.
I twirled in my seat to gaze a big beefy man snarling at a bony lanky man in the corner of the bar. The beefy man kept muttering on about money.
Arrow grumbled and walked around the bar. He stalked all the way to the two disruptive people.
"Benny! I asked you! Where the hell is Santana's money? 60 grand missing after that deal last week. Did you think we'd not find out? You're snake Benny!!"
The bony man shivered as the beefy man balled up his shirt and picked him up off the ground. His feet dangled, swaying back and forth.
"Aye boy! Let him down! This is a bar not a fight club!!" Arrow growled out at the beefy man. Some people stopped dancing and just turned staring. The ladies still sang in the background.
The beefy man dropped Benny hard on the ground. Beeny let out a whimper as his face came in contact with the cold ground.
"Who are you?" Beefy man said. I gripped the sides of my chair and felt a bit scared.
"Arrow. Manager of the bar."
"Well Arrow, you know Santana right?" His voice was loud and rough.
