'We could touch heaven
As we kiss the stars
I can forget myself
And make my way to where you are'
Charlotte was okay, and so were Tate, Lillie and Jace. Tate has some deep bruising under his eyes and Jace has a broken arm, sadly it was nothing that they weren't use to.
The main thing is that they will all be okay.
I walk up the house that saved me, with a bottle of wine and my little leather book. I knock three times before just entering.
"In the Kitchen!"
"Hey Mum," I place my book and wine down to kiss her on the cheek.
"I know you are in Uni now but one month really is too long darling!" She says before squeezing my face between her hands.
"Where's Dad?"
"Out back sweetie," she beams at me.
"Thanks, smells delicious by the way!"
I make my way through the living room to the back sliding doors. Dad is in his usual reading chair under the pergola, his glasses are much too big for his face and his cigarette in balanced in his opposite hand to his book.
"Going back to the classics," I say as I point to his hard copy of The Great Gatsby.
"They never cease to fail me," he places the book down and comes to give me a quick hug. "Your mother has been going on about you visiting more," he looks to the ground and I know he is also speaking for himself.
"I know, Uni is hectic at the moment, but I will do better. Speaking of which," I pull out the poster from my pocket. "Dates for our show, we will be doing three nights of the play."
Dad smiles. "You know your mother will be at everyone," he doesn't need to say that he will be sitting there right by her side; I know that he will. He whistles, "The Tempest," he smiles.

"I got the lead too," I try to say humbly, but really, I knew I would.
"They would be stupid not to give it to you."
"Dinner's ready!" Mum calls loudly.
We head back in to the neatly set dining table. Mum is an interior designer, so their house is always updating and changing. As we eat and make small talk about our lives, I study their features. Features that I had grown so accustomed to but were so different from my own. Mum has dark red hair, with a sharp face. Dad has brown hair and long limbs. Mum loved indoor plants and cooking, and Dad could always be found reading with one leg crossed over the other, bouncing slightly as he concentrated.
They adopted me at sixteen, never having children of their own, I didn't even know if that was because they couldn't or they didn't want to, all I know is that they fucking saved me.
I didn't make that easy on them either, breaking their rules and partying too much. Once Mum told me, Jace and Tate off for stumbling into the house at some ridiculous hour, drunk as shit.
Jace the idiot knocked over her very new and expensive vase. She made us scrub the entire house with a toothbrush, quite amusing when we were intoxicated. As the sun began to come up, she started cooking us all breakfast and we talked. All of us joking and telling her about all the stupid shit we had done together, Jace and Tate left and I remember saying to her, 'thanks Mum.' It was the first time I had called her that, her eyes immediately welled with tears, but she didn't make a big deal out of it, just told me to go get some sleep.
Mum and Dad both realised that Tate and Jace were bonded to me for life, they never adopted them but they did offer them bed and food whenever they needed. Dad even helped Jace to read, something he could never do well.

"How are Tate and Jace?" Mum asks snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Well, you won't believe it, but Tate has a girlfriend."
Mum drops her fork onto her plate. "Never thought I'd see the day," she jokes. "What about Jace?"
"Well, he finally fucked off Roxy," Dad gives me an annoyed look about my swearing, something he has never been a fan of.
"Oh well thank goodness for that, she really was a bitch," Mum says and Dad sighs loudly at us.
Mum winks at me and smiles.
After dinner, Mum will make coffees for Dad and I, and a cup of tea for herself. Then we sit out in the pergola, her fairy lights and candles giving enough light that we can see fine in the darkness. Then we read.
Dad will sit on the larger bench, with Mum cuddled up to his side, while I sit in his reading chair facing them. He will light a smoke and Mum will close her eyes and listen to our words. It became therapy for all of us, something Dad would get me to do in my darkest moments.
Slowly, the dangerous partying and stupid shit stopped, as words became my release.
"I have just heard your footsteps entering my heart. Will you stay this time? These are all by Alexandra Vasiliu," I say, knowing Dad hadn't heard of her before.
"Soothe my soul with love and healing words, my heart hides hundreds of wounds that never bleed," Mum hums at the words, appreciating them.
Dad lowers his glasses, breaking my eyes from my leather book. I look up to him and he is watching me with a look I don't recognise.
"What?" I ask him.
"Are you seeing someone?" He asks and Mum's eyes rush open as she sits up.
"What..." I ask dumbfounded.
"Your words tonight are all about love," Dad says satisfied, he can tell he is right.
"There is this girl..."
Mum claps loudly, "Tyson! Why didn't you tell us?"
"I don't know, it's all new, I've never done the whole relationship thing before."
"When can I meet her? What is she like? Is she smart? I bet she is absolutely stunning!"
"Mum calm down-"
"Did you meet her at Uni?"
"Yes, but not because she goes there, she was just there for work. She's a photographer."
"Is it serious?" Mum pushes.
I sigh, this woman will never stop now. I give Dad a frustrated glance but he just shrugs at me, leaning back into his chair. "I want to be around her all the time," I say nervously.
"Oh Tyson, you need to bring her around soon," Mum pleads.
"Okay, as long as you both promise not to scare her off." Mum taps her heart, something we all do when we mean promise, it was really their thing, but I started doing it with them when Mum needed to trust me. Knowing I would never break something so sacred to them.
As they walk me out, I am stopped by the small picture of my biological Mum amongst the family photos. It was the only one I have of her, I left it here when I moved out, wanting both of my mum's to be together. Mum slips her hand in mine and gives it a quick squeeze to let me know that she is here.
I decide not to tell them about the two bikers wanting me to go and see Dad, they didn't need that kind of worry.
"We will see you again soon, with Bella next time!" Mum kisses me goodbye and Dad gives me another hug.
"Thank you for tonight," I say to them as I stand outside the doorframe.
"Always," Dad says.
