《The LOVE of a BETA》Chapter 18: Taken

Alpha Jack has me heading west. The west side border of the pack's territory was the closest to the pack house. It boarders the lake and the base of the mountain. This part of the territory had already been searched, had we missed something?
I met up with Titus sooner than I expected.
I link.
About an hour. We found the camp right out-side the boundaries at the base of the rock formation.
We did. Alpha and the Councilmen think they were able to mask the scent of the camp.
The rock formation was at the base of the mountain. Big boulders covered with flat, jagged rocks. It was ugly. Not event the humans wanted much to do with it.
I picked-up my pace and Titus quickly matched sensing my urgency. In about an hour we approached the rock formation. The smell of rogues hung in the air.
Titus links motioning his black nose towards a group of oddly shaped rocks.
I follow as Titus leads us over a windy path across jagged rocks. Guards from the pack held different positions around the formation. We stopped in front of a large flat rock.
Titus links.
I again follow his lead and once around the rock I was met with the opening of a large cavern. Guards stand on either side. I shift, un-wrapped the shorts from my leg, and quickly put them on.
"The main room is down the corridor. The Council members and Alpha are waiting for you" Titus informs me.
I nod and head down the corridor. Lit candles placed on ledges on the walls illuminate the way. The muscles in my body tense when I enter the room. Even with several electric lamps, the room was dark. The air was damp and it smelt of mold and blood.
One wall was covered with pictures of me, Caleb, and the pups. A large number of the pictures were of Sariah.
The other wall had pictures of Alpha Jack, Alpha Felix, and pack activities including trainings. That wall had blood splattered all over it. A broken table and chair were at the base of the wall. Paper was strewn all over the floor and a large puddle of blood was near the overturned table. It was werewolf blood by the smell.
With the amount of blood, the struggle must have been pretty violent. Maybe even deadly?
"Dane...over here" Alpha Jack calls out motioning me over to a large table. On the table were detailed drawings of the inside of the pack house and hospital. It cleared identified rooms, safe rooms, and escape tunnels.
"Nero must have been able to reconstruct this from memory" I state hating the fact I ever trusted that piece of shit.

Also on the table were drawings of the steel doors to the entrance of the hospital and locks on the main pack house door.
"Take a look at these" Alpha Jack says handing me a stack of papers. It was schedules of school, training times, shift changes for the guards, and our routine supply drop. It even had Caleb's work schedule.
"Most of this would information would be easily accessible, but why and how did they find about Caleb's work schedule" I question looking at Alpha Jack.
"I don't know" he responds looking as perplexed as me.
"We searched this area, how were they able to mask the scent for so long? Did we find any masking spray or the formula" I inquire looking around.
"We are still looking through everything. The Council members and I looked over every inch of this cavern. No hiding places...nothing. Not even an escape tunnel. The only thing we found so far was a couple of gallons of what we are assuming is the masking spray at the entrance of the cavern" Alpha Jack says sighing.
"Whoever gathered all this intelligence required patience and the ability to perform complex planning. Abilities that rogues typically do not have. If a group of rogues were able to accomplish that without killing each other off, the entire werewolf community is in serious jeopardy" one of the Council members voices. I think his name is Lewis.
"What if they had outside help" I interject.
"What do you mean" Alpha Jack asks.
"What if someone was using the rogues simply for muscle? Nero has done surveillance in the past, but that takes money. Where did Nero get the money from? And if he did pull the money together, Nero cannot command a group of rogues. Hell...he couldn't even command a group of well-trained warriors. He hates it when people question any of his decisions and thrives on being feared. We all know most rogues hate authority and don't like being told what to do" I tell them continuing to stare at the pictures.
If anybody voiced a response or an opinion, I didn't notice. I was drawn to the pictures of my mate...my family. Caleb and I eating lunch out-side the hospital, Gideon and I training, Seth playing with Daniel, and pictures of me picking up the kids from school. Bile threatens to come up as I notice the sickening number of pictures of Sariah.
I couldn't make sense of things. Why was Nero obsessed with Sariah? Why not Seth and Gideon? And then why not Daniel? It was those three that he had gone after that day.
Look at the mouse. Zeus said.
What? What the hell are you talking about Zeus? I exclaim.

Look at the picture with the mouse! Zeus yells back.
I look over the pictures again and found what Zeus was talking about. It was picture of Caleb and I coming out of Chuck E. Cheese after our first family date.
Wait...that was before the fight with Nero.
"Alpha...this was taken before Nero escaped. He couldn't possibly of taken it" I yell frantically.
My mind was racing trying to put things together when I heard Zeus roar Caleb is in trouble!
My heart dropped.
I link.
Silence.
Silence.
Someone is hurting our mate! Zeus screams.
"Jack...I can't get Caleb to answer through the link and Zeus says he's in trouble. Do you have your cell phone" I exclaim turning to Jack.
"Yes. Here—you'll have to find a good signal" Jack says handing me the phone.
I grab the phone and run out of the cavern. Not shifting, I make my way past the flat stone and climb up as high as I could ignoring the cuts forming on my feet.
I dial Caleb...no answer.
I dial again...no answer.
I dial again...straight to voice-mail.
I dial again...straight to voice-mail.
SHIT!
Alpha Jack links.
His phone is going straight to voice-mail. Can you also have Felix check our suite? I'm going to head back.
I climb back down the rock formation and hand one of the warriors Alpha Jack's phone. Once I reach the bottom, I shift and begin running back home. I try to push down every emotion that wants to flood my body including the pain in my paws and concentrate on pushing my already tired legs and my screaming lungs to go faster.
I don't make it very far before I am flanked by Titus and some of the warriors. Alpha Jack must have sent them. As long as they didn't slow me down, I was grateful for the company.
Alpha Jack links.
Caleb never mentioned his in-laws coming. Did they contact you? How did they get past the guards?
Alpha Jack responds.
Don't contact his Alpha yet. Things aren't making sense. I link back.
Alright. I'll hold off.
Each mile seems to stretch on forever making the trip back torturous.
I try to link with Caleb again. Caleb. I don't know why you aren't talking to me. But if you can hear me, I am coming for you. I am coming for our pups. I will not stop until I have you all safe in my arms. So whatever you do, stay alive. I promise I will find you. I love you Caleb. Please tell the pups I love them too.
It takes another hour but I finally make it to the pack house. I don't shift until I reach the hospital room. When I entered Brian and another nurse were looking around the room.
"Shit" Brian yells picking up the remnants of a cell-phone. I walked over and examine it. It was mine. Had Caleb's father-in-law, the pups grandfather, really taken them? Why?
My body started to tremble feeling Zeus trying to fight his way out. I was on the edge of losing complete control. I didn't even know if I wanted to stay in control. What I wanted was my mate and my pups. What I wanted was to rip to shreds the man that took them away from me. I want to see the life drain from his eyes as I rip his throat out.
My body feels like it is on fire. Snarls and growls escape me. I hear screaming and see blurry figures running. Fueled with rage I turn over the bed but it's not enough. I turn and reach for the lamp throwing it against the wall. Looking for something else, I reach down, pick-up the bed-side table and throw it into the wall making a large hole.
Still not enough. I reach for a chair...
"STOP" Alpha Jack commands.
My body freezes with the chair mid-air. I look over to see Alpha Jack and Titus along with two other warriors at the door.
"PUT IT DOWN DANE" he commands in his Alpha voice.
I slowly put the chair down but the anger continues to rage.
"ZEUS. I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME. BACK DOWN. YOU WANT YOUR MATE? YOU WANT YOUR PUPS? BACKING DOWN IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO THAT. IF YOU TAKE OVER COMPLETELY, YOU WILL LOSE THEM ALL. SO BACK DOWN. NOW" Alpha Jack roars.
I must not have let Zeus take over completely because if I had, not even an alpha's command would have stopped us. I feel Zeus retreat but his anger is still pulsing through my body.
"Dane. I need you to help Zeus back down and stay down. We will get Caleb back. We will get the kids back, but I need you to calm down and focus for that to happen" Alpha Jack says in a soothing but firm voice.
I sink to my knees defeated.
"Everyone out" Alpha commands.
He walks over and kneels down next to me. I don't know why, I can't even explain it, but I start sobbing. The thought of losing any of them is too much to bare.
Alpha Jack puts his arm around me and pulls me to his chest.
"We will find them Dane. I swear it. We will not stop until they are back here safely" Alpha Jack states with certainty.
