《Dusk & Dawn》Chapter 11

Even after such a short time I actually belonged to a lunch table now. It still felt weird sitting and eating around other people knowing they were my 'friends'. Real friends know everything about each other and I wasn't really sold on telling everyone about my life. I'd rather keep pandoras box closed for now.

"Oh em gee Quinnie, tonight's gonna be epic! Zach said he can pick us up at 5 so I was thinking of skipping out on last period to get ready. Wanna ditch with me?" Lexi asked, eyes wide, nodding as if she was trying to convince me.

"Sure Lex, maybe you can be my stylist for tonight. Chris told me to wear something a little more revealing but tasteful, whatever that means." I shook my head frowning in confusion. 'Revealing' for me was wearing a shirt that was below my collar bone.

"Okay, I accept, but on one condition..." She didn't even wait for me to ask before continuing.

"I get to do your hair and makeup too." She palmed the air and brought her hand back into a fist in front of her shoulder like she just took her responsibility of gig stylist from mid air. I laughed running my hand through my hair silently dreading that she was going to dress me up like a.,, girl who is very loose with her morals.

Zach and Mason were busy talking to a couple of the guys from the basketball team on the edge of the table. Mason hadn't spoken to me since music so I was pretty sure he would know I was uncomfortable about the song choice for our exams. I didn't dare tell Lexi because I knew that would open up a whole can of worms that I didn't want to discuss here in front of everyone. It was embarrassing enough I had to perform it in front of thirty plus music students.

Lexi caught me looking over at the boys deep in thought.

"You wanna play hookie now? It'll give us more time to make sure we look delicious for our men." She said taking a bite of her celery stick staring at Zach with her head resting on one hand.

"He's not my man Lex!" I said kicking her seat from out underneath her. She managed to catch her weight with her legs before her butt touched the ground and laughed while trying to keep her mouth open in surprise. She stood up and leaned closer to my ear.

"Don't worry, it's all part of the process. First denial, then anger..." she says jokingly and sweeps her foot underneath my chair, pushing it to the next table. I stayed perfectly still as if I was still sitting on an invisible chair with a smirk on my face. I knew her games by now, i'd become a pro at dodging her latest attacks. We'd grown really close in a short amount of time.

By this point all the guys at our table were in hysterics, holding their stomachs while Lexi stood with her arms on her hips joining in on the laughter. I looked over at Mason one last time before Lexi and I started walking to the exit and he was leaning on the two back legs of his chair with his hands behind his head smiling that incredibly contagious smile at me. I held up five fingers as if to say See you at five and he made a gun with his fingers and winked. I shouldn't have liked the way that made me feel, but I did. A lot.

When looking back from afar I noticed I hadn't seen Mason with his tongue down any girls throat today, let alone spoken to one... apart from me. I should be flattered but something definitely seems different in his demeanour.
