《Dusk & Dawn》Chapter 6

The band was incredible, even though the sound could use a little tweaking here and there. After studying my certificate for music technology back in high school for extra credit, much to the dismay of my parents when they found out at graduation, I cant help but analyse everything I hear.

"Thanks Jim for keeping me company." I smile at the jolly tired man behind the counter.

"Anytime sweet pea." He wipes down the sticky alcohol covered surface.

I turn around on my stool and whip out my phone out for some music before I start walking to the car. As I'm scrolling through songs I see none other than Mason with his arms draped around not one but two girls necks as they walk past the bar on their way to the door.

"Ladies, ladies, there's plenty of me to go around." He states over confidently. The two girls just grope at him as they pass me and I can't even look up at them. I feel embarrassed for some reason. Maybe because not too long ago I was thinking about how those arms would feel around me. Stupid, so stupid.

Numb by Linkin Park

I find Numb by Linkin Park and blast it as loud as I can through the earbuds to drown out the disguting verbal foreplay that's going on between the three of them.

I sit at the bar, trying to wait a good amount of time before going out to the car so i don't have to run into him. I pull my hood up and pretend to text someone to keep my hands from shaking. I pull up my notepad on my iphone and type "Night 1. Have seen Mason with 3 girls already today. REMEMBER: Stay Away!"

Just as I finish the note my phone starts blinking 5% battery and then dies.

Great, hopefully man whore is gone so I don't have to gag myself to death.

"Sup Jimmy? You like the show tonight?" A charming manly voice comes from beside me. I turn cautiously and there's Mason, all sweaty, rugged and smelling so alluring like the ocean.

Did he ditch those girls already? Must be a new world record.

"Was great buddy, you're getting better. Maybe you'll get picked up soon by a label." Jim gleams with a proud face. Mason spins on the bar stool to face me.

"What did you think?" Blue eyes of steel boring into mine, eyebrows raised with the hint of a smile.

What a cocky bastard, he knows exactly how attractive he is.

I give a one shoulder shrug.

"It was okay. Could use a little work." A thundering laugh explodes from Jim. He slaps his thigh like I've said the funniest thing he's ever heard.

"She's a firecracker this one Mase. I like her." Grinning he continued to discard the empty whisky bottles.

Mason just stares at me with his gorgeous eyes, looking me up and down and reaches out to touch the top of my glove. His smile begins in his eyes and then travels down to his mouth. That damn perfect mouth of his.

I whip my hand away as fast as I can and flash a quick sarcastic smile to mimic him. I don't wish to be one of his groupies tonight, or ever for that matter. I don't care how deeply mesmerising his eyes are or how he runs his hand through his dark hair, I can spot guys like this from a mile away. I turn to find Lexi and Zach making a conscious effort not to give Mason any eye contact.

Rushing over to Lexi I tug on her arm while shes talking to her prince charming.

"Lex, we gotta go. I have to start looking for work tomorrow, remember?" I remind her, even though I have two more months to secure a job so I don't fall behind in tuition. Lexi wanted to do college full time so she could become a qualified nurse sooner but I just opted for part time so I could work to get some experience under my belt. She had it all worked out.

"I'll nurse the hospital patients bodies scientifically with medicine and you heal the patients hearts with music." She'd say.

"I'll meet you at the car." She quietly said in my ear and bit her lip.

"I'm just waiting for a kiss." I wiggle my eyebrows up and down teasing her a little bit and decided to give her a little privacy. I gave Jim a wave as I headed out the door. It was a little bit nippy outside but it was the beginning of autumn so I guess I should have expected it. I lean against Lexi's silver prius and waited like a loner humming songs to myself in the absence of my dead phone.

Finally Lexi rescues me from boredom and clicks her little remote at her car skipping along the path.

"I expect a full report on the way home." I point to her face that's plastered with happiness. I got what I asked for. The whole ride back to the dorms she was gushing about how Zach was the best kisser she'd ever experienced. She even managed to go into full detail, discussing techniques of the tongue and hand placement.

I tried to keep my mind open and be as ecstatic as she was but I just couldn't stop replaying the day back through my head. I ran through scenarios in my head all the while kicking myself.

Oh man, I should have told him he's a man whore or I should have slapped him at the bar.

It all came back to one common denominator... Mason.
