《The Assistant | Pietro Maximoff x Reader》Chapter 19

I woke up the next day at seven thirty. I had a quick shower and got dressed before having my breakfast. No one was up yet so I got to my office ten minutes early. I answered a few emails before my door opened and Tony walked in.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Work," I replied.

Tony shook his head at me.

"Did that conversation we had last night about you undergoing Avenger training mean anything to you?" he asked.

I bit my lip.

"Listen, I actually like my job," I said. "I – I assumed that because you didn't kick me out that I'd be able to keep it..."

Tony sighed and shook his head.

"You'd rather be an assistant than an Avenger?" he asked.

I shook my head.

"Manager, actually," I said. "But... I guess I would want to do both, you know? At least until I actually become an Avenger."

Tony just shook his head again.

"We can talk about your job later," he said. "If you want to keep it, I don't have a problem with it. But right now we're going down to the training rooms. Natasha wants to assess you."

I nodded nervously. Tony told me not to worry. I went to my room and got changed into my suit before going downstairs to the training rooms. Everyone was waiting there for me, and I felt my nervousness return. I glanced at Pietro who smiled at me softly, and my nerves began to melt away.

"You said last night that you learn new skills almost instantly," Natasha stated, and I nodded. "How advanced at combat are you?"

I shrugged.

"Well, I haven't gone as far as I can during my training sessions," I admitted.

Natasha smirked.

"Good. Because you're up against me," she said. "Don't hold back. I want to see the full extent."

I nodded again and took up the position against her in the ring. Sam muttered something about getting popcorn.

Natasha stood still for a few seconds before attacking. She struck at my stomach and I twirled away. She continued on the offensive, and I defended myself. I watched the way her body moved. Natasha never used the same two moves in a row, but she moved in certain ways before using certain moves. Since I had her fighting patterns memorised, I was able to block and dodge all of her attacks. It was actually pretty easy, so I decided to go on the offensive.

Natasha was surprised when I got past her guard and struck her. Her expression became neutral again as she attacked with more force, but I still didn't go on the defensive. I struck her arm back before jumping on her and wrapping my thighs against her neck and pulling her to the floor. I kept her in the thigh grip until she tapped out.

"Did you just beat the Black Widow?" Tony asked in slight horror.

"To be fair, I had her moves memorised," I said quietly.

"That's why you read the Shield defence manual," Steve said suddenly. "You memorised the theory of it so that you could use it in real life."

I nodded once in confirmation. The others looked at me in awe and Natasha grinned softly.

"We might be able to make an Avenger out of you," she said.

I smiled softly back at her.

"Now, what everyone's been waiting for. Powers," Tony said, clapping his hands.

A few of the Avengers took a few steps back.

"Precautions," Pietro said. "When Wanda was learning about her telekinesis, she threw me against a wall by accident."

"It wasn't an accident," Wanda muttered.

She walked to the centre of the ring with me.

"So you stopped a bullet," she said. "That speed would be pretty difficult to block, so maybe we could throw something at you?"

"Y/n!" Clint yelled, throwing a shoe at me.

The shoe hit me in the back of the head.

"Ow!" I yelled, hurling the shoe back at him.

It hit him in the chest and he rocked back a step.

"So... that's not going to work," Wanda said.

She took the shoe from Clint and placed it on the floor.

"Try to lift it," she said.

I stared at the shoe and imagined it floating in the air, but it didn't work. I concentrated for a minute longer, but nothing happened.

"Don't worry," Wanda said gently. "I didn't expect you to be able to do it. When I first got my powers, I didn't know how either. I would have been very impressed if you could have done it."

"How did you end up figuring out how to do it?" I asked.

Wanda shrugged.

"I used my anger to fuel my power. I used emotion as a crutch until I was able to use my powers without it. So, what emotion did you feel last night?"

I glanced at Pietro quickly and then back at Wanda.

"Fear," I said.

Wanda nodded.

"So use your fear, and lift the shoe."

I looked at the shoe again. It looked like it probably smelled, and I wondered who's shoe it was. I decided to focus on trying to lift it instead.

Fear. I focused on the fear of Pietro getting hurt. I didn't want him to get hurt. I remembered how it felt last night when I feared the Avengers would abandon me. When I thought Pietro would leave me.

The shoe began to lift off of the floor slowly. It wobbled a bit, but soon enough it was at my eye-level.

"Well done!" Wanda praised.

I smiled at her and the shoe fell to the floor.

"Want to try again?"

The rest of the day passed quickly. I was able to throw the shoe at Clint with my telekinesis after a while of practicing. Soon it was time to get ready for my date. Pietro had told me to dress comfy, so I put on a nice pair of sweats and a soft blue top. I felt underdressed, though.

There was a knock at my door and I twisted my hands nervously.

"Who is it?" I called.

"The best person on the planet!" Wanda replied.

I smiled and opened the door. She looked me up and down and grinned.

"That outfit is perfect," she said.

"Really?" I asked.

Wanda nodded and closed the door.

"Pietro told me about your date," she said excitedly. "You two are going to be so cute together! Oh, and then we can go on double dates!"

She clapped excitedly and I smiled at her enthusiasm.

"I hope it goes well," I murmured. "I really like him."

"Oh, I know," she said, plopping down onto my bed. "Honestly, I know you try not to think of him when I'm around, but you fail tremendously."

I smiled and sat down next to her.

"Yeah, well what can I say?" I said. "I'm sure you think of Vision all of the time."

Wanda scoffed.

"Yeah, maybe I do," she said. "But, you aren't a mind reader, and he isn't your brother."

I chuckled and nudged her softly. She grinned back at me and there was a knock at the door. Wanda nodded at me excitedly and I stood up and opened the door. Pietro stood on the other side with a bouquet of flowers. He smiled at me, and I smiled as I realised we were wearing matching outfits.

"These are for you," Pietro said, handing me the flowers.

"Thank you," I said.

I found an empty vase and placed the flowers in them before taking Pietro's outstretched hand.

"Have fun, you two!" Wanda called.

I grinned back at her before allowing Pietro to tug me away. We went down to the garage where a pickup truck was waiting for us. Pietro got in the driver's seat and I got into the passenger.

"So, where are we off to?" I asked as Pietro pulled onto the road.

Pietro shrugged with a smirk on his face.

"Can't tell you," he said. "It's a surprise."

I rolled my eyes. Pietro grinned at me and I stuck my tongue out at him.

The drive to our surprise destination wasn't all that long, and Pietro let me know when we were getting close.

"You see, I didn't want to do a generic first date kind of thing, but I wasn't sure if you would want a generic first date," he told me. "I didn't want to go out to dinner since we do that already, and just going to the regular movies seemed a bit boring."

Pietro pulled off of the main road and into...

"A drive-in movie?" I asked excitedly.

Pietro nodded with a grin on his face.

"There are blankets and snacks in the back," he said.

Pietro reversed into one of the spaces and we got out of the truck before getting into the back. There were at least seven blankets and loads of snacks.

"You got (favourite/snack)?" I asked.

Pietro nodded.

"Of course. It's your favourite, I remember." he said.

I sat down in the back of the truck and got comfy as Pietro sat down next to me. I cuddled closer to him and he wrapped an arm around me and pulled me closer.

"So, what are we watching?" I asked.

Pietro grinned at me again.

"It's a surprise," he said.

I shook my head at him and then leant on his shoulder.

"Do you have something against surprises?" he asked innocently.

I just shrugged.

"I mean, I don't mind surprises if I don't know about them, but if I know that there's a surprise coming, I don't like them," I said.

Pietro chuckled and the movie began to play.

"F/m?" I exclaimed in a whisper.

"I know it's your favourite," he said.

I grinned up at him before returning my attention to the big screen. The movie played out and I murmured some of the lines under my breath. Once the movie had finished, Pietro and I had somehow moved closer to each other. People began to leave, but Pietro and I stayed there together.

"Y/n, I really like you," Pietro said, "and I don't know if this is too fast, but I want to be your boyfriend."

I grinned up at him and kissed him softly.

"I'd like that," I said.
