《Endangered》25.) Boundaries

My thoughts were a jumbled mess. Sometimes I thought of my life before all this, then I'd drift off to where I started to feel something for Dorian.

He had somehow managed to make his way into my heart. Something that I hardly let anybody do. The event flashed through my mind like a recording. As much as I wanted to think differently, I simply couldn't.

The knocking on the door momentarily threw me off.

"Dorian's here. Demanding to see you."

"No," was my hoarse reply. The wolves wouldn't be able to stop nor deny him access but the other lycans can and will. They've abided my wishes and respected them without question. They knew the source of my pain and stress is from him.

Every day I've heard some type of commotion. Sometimes I could feel my stomach flutter when I hear Dorian's voice.

I use to crave his touch and his attention. Now I wanted just the opposite. He had given me the space I needed and for that I was grateful.

All the guys barged into the room while two stood by the door just in case Dorian tried to sneak in. I immediately groaned knowing what they were going to say.

"Flora, you can't keep avoiding him. You guys gotta talk and stop this nonsense. You're both in bad shape."

"I can't face him."

"Yes, you can. He needs to know and you're keeping that valuable information from him."

It was true, I was keeping information about the babies from him. The news was exciting and scared me at the same time.

It took me a couple of minutes to think what I'd say to Dorian. "Okay," was my only reply to the guys as they sat down on the bed being careful not to sit on me.

I was grateful that they chose to respect my wishes in keeping Dorian away, but in a way that was their brother. Not by blood but, they shared a bond with each other. They wanted us to make up and be okay with one another.

"So should we let him in now?" They asked looking at each other.

That perked me up. "He's here?" My eyes widened in realization. I was hoping to gather my courage before he showed his face.

"He's been here every day."

"Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all," I muttered but knowing them, they'd probably hear it anyways.

"Hey, there's no backing out now." They all gave me a kiss on the forehead wishing me luck and that they'll be right outside the door if I need them. They were prepared this time and wanted no hiccups.

I waited anxiously, trying to distract myself from facing him.

"Nancy," I called out when I saw her passing by my room. "I think I'm going to need you and the girls. I can't do this alone despite what the guys think."

"We'll be right here with you. Let me go get them."

In the time that I was waiting, the door opened to the one person I was not ready to face. He had his eyes cast down, only glancing at my face a few times. He had a bottle of water and some flowers in his hands.

"These are for you," he put them on a dresser then pulled out a chair. His hands were clasped as he remained emotionless.

"Before you say anything, I need to let you know that what I did was for the greater good for my species' future. How I did it was wrong, I'll admit to that but I can't apologize for something that is in my nature. I wasn't born human, when I was born I was shifted, a pup. I'm not normal and I don't quite understand all of the human emotions but I know they affect you greatly."

He chanced a glance at me but saw my impassive expression. Right when I was about to respond the girls came in, already bringing me comfort.

"What are you three doing in here?" He asked narrowing his eyes at each of them.

"I've asked them to be here." Surprisingly he didn't fight me on it. "The days that I've kept you away was when Nancy gave me another ultrasound. She saw three this time. Two boys and...a girl."

"The girl won't survive." He immediately replied.

"She's lived this long. Couldn't she still make it?" Anna interjected.

"She might not make it when she has to come out. All females are near to impossible on living when they're first born." Everything he was saying was making me angry. He doubted that she would survive.

"Tilda made it," I seethed out her name but I had to get my point across.

"She's one of the exceptions and is considered a lucky one, nothing more."

"She can make it," I stated sitting up straighter, feeling my heart quicken.

"She won't."

"Yes, she will," I said moving forward on the bed glaring at him. The girls touched my shoulders trying to calm me.

"It'll be easier to accept her death now than later."

"How can you say that? You have no faith in believing that she has a chance. Then that already makes you a bad father."

The chair on the floor screeched as he abruptly stood up with his veins sticking out. The girls all put their hands on me as they stood up as well. "I want her to live but she will not survive! I'm not a bad father, I've just made dumb choices. I never meant to hurt you or the babies."

"That's just it." Nancy interrupted. "She felt pain like how a wolf would if the other cheated on their mate."

"How's that possible?"

"It's not supposed to be. Maybe since the babies are connected through your blood and are growing in Flora, it connected the pain back to her."

"Girls, may I have a moment alone with Dorian?"

"Are you sure?" They asked, not sure if they should leave since Dorian and I were still gauging where we were at with each other. I nodded my head. They gave me a pleasant smile then left.

Once they closed the door, I looked Dorian straight in the eyes. "I'm going to leave this place and go back to the house since the full moon is coming. I'm going to have these babies with or without you." I put my hand on my stomach. "My daughter will live, and that's up to you whether or not you choose to believe it."

"Flora," he sighed.

"I don't want to hear it." I pushed the sheets away and tried standing up. He tried to help me but I pushed him away. All my stuff was already packed, courtesy of the pack house helping me out.

I was about to pick up my bags when he interjected, "let me get those for you." This time I allowed him to help me. "Flora," he said softly. "Can I still be in the house with you?"

I looked slightly over my shoulder, but not looking at him. "Yes, but you'll leave me alone. If I tell you to leave, don't question why. If I tell you to get me something and to be back quickly, you do exactly that. That is how this will work, for now."

"I'll do anything to earn your forgiveness."

"I would hope so."
