《The Secrets of The Reverence Pack》Chapter 55: Challenge

Everything was in place. He was being driven to the building now. He would say that he was nervous, but it was more of an excitement rather than anything else. He was not afraid of his father. He had survived his attempts to kill him twice, the first time being in the womb. He was not afraid of the father that he had fooled time and time again. He might have made one mistake, but he would make sure that it would be his last.

In a game of chess, sometimes the plan was to make the opponent feel as if they were winning. Much like the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, if the person feels as though they are truly winning the game, they will let their guard down. If you let them believe that you are too dumb to win against them, they will not think anything of you.

"Do you remember me saying that I was underestimated quite a lot?" Shiro asked Jett. It was during the times that they had spent practicing.

"Yeah," he frowned. "I'm guessing Sakdah underestimated you the most?"

"He underestimated me from the moment that I was conceived," Shiro told him. That month had been the time in which he could truly show his hatred. He used it to fuel his determination. But he would not be impatient with gaining his strength. That was why they had waited so long. He did not wish to make his grandfather's mistake. His grandfathers one flaw was impatience. While Shiro's had been distrust.

No one was designed to be flawless. But he was still going to do his best to perfect himself. Even if it meant allowing someone to help him as he recovered from his injuries.

And now was the day that he had been waiting for his entire life. As they approached the community center, Shiro reveled in the fact that today was the final day in which the Reverence Pack would have to suffer. Whether it be by his own hands, or the hands of his allies, his father would see the end of his life. He would make sure of it.

The car stopped by the front doors. It did not park, like the others that had come. It was merely there to drop him off. The driver wasn't even allowed to step out of the car. No one would have a hint as to who was helping him. The secrets would all be revealed by the end of the day.

He looked out to all the warriors that were guarding the building. He recognized all of them. All of them were ones in which he trained with. He had taught them to fight and hone their abilities to their peak. Even if he was out of the pack, he was still their General. They would still listen to him. And if not, he would make them. For he was their true Alpha.

He stepped out of the car, allowing his Alpha aura and scent to come out and fill the area. He had kept it hidden for so long, he hadn't realized how powerful it had gotten until he had finally released his control over it.

He wore a kimono that day. One that was blood red and gold. He had planned it out specifically for the occasion. His hair was partially down, with the front pulled back into a ponytail. The rest of his hair flowed with the wind. She spoke to him her good wishes.

The guards changed their expressions as soon as they smelt his scent and recognized his face. They knew who their Alpha was. But they thought he was dead. One of them with a burn mark on their face grew pale at the sight of him.

He wouldn't show sympathy to them. His posture was strong and menacing as he walked up to them alone. Alex should be watching from the window in case anything happened to him. And he had plenty of people standing in the shadows of the city as well. For those on the outside, it looked like a fool's errand. For the ones who had helped him plan this, it was ingenious.

"Let me pass," he told the guards. They all looked shaken up by seeing him. But they would not budge. They were trained to listen to their Alpha, no matter what. They were trained that way through fear.

If it was fear they wanted, it was fear that they were going to get.

Shiro let out a low growl, one that could only be heard from outside the building. He did not wish to get the attention of the ones inside. The growl was low, almost like the one that he had made when he was escaping his father's torture. It was enough to make them all shake under his presence. They all knew how strong he was. He had trained with all of them. There was a reason why he was their General at such a young age. Not even the stubborn elders wanted to challenge his command over them.

They backed away quietly, allowing him to pass. He didn't have time before Sakdah would be alerted to him infiltrating the building. He would rather have the man find out through feeling his aura than by the guards sending him a message. But he didn't wish to rush things. He slowly walked down the halls, letting his scent and aura settle into the rooms that he walked through. It wasn't until he got to the room that the Alphas were in that he stopped in his tracks. He twisted the knob and opened the door without a second's hesitation. If he paused, then it would be shown as a weakness. And he would not have that.

Eight pairs of eyes fell on him as soon as he walked through those doors. Two of them looked excited to see him, as everything was going according to plan. Nir, Roger, and their respective Betas looked shocked, and confused. But they recognized his scent. For it was the true scent of the Reverence pack.

Then there was his father's face. With Kenji standing beside him, they both looked at him as though they had just seen a ghost. Their face's pale, both of them stood as he walked in.

"Shiro," Sakdah's expression changed to faux happiness. "Is that really you?"

"Yes," Shiro answered him, taking a step forward. His father took a step back just as he did. "I am Shiro Wang, the son of Sakdah and Ming Wang; the rightful leader of the Reverence Pack."

His father's expression changed as soon as he said that. The others stayed silent, baffled by what was happening. But Sakdah knew exactly what was going on. The look on the man's face showed that he thought he knew exactly what Shiro was going to say next. His father may have fooled many people over the years, but Shiro had bided his time well under his father's reign. He knew too much to be fooled by the man.

"What are you saying, Shiro?" he looked nervously at the other Alphas that were in the room. He wasn't used to there being witnesses. "I find out that you are alive, and the first thing that you say to me is this?"

"You don't care for me, Sakdah," Shiro said, his expression was completely void of emotion as he spoke. "You disowned me a month ago, therefore I have disowned you. I have not, however, disowned my pack. You and I both know that I am the rightful ruler."

There was some silence as they both stared at each other. Sakdah's eyes changed from his wall of faux caring to the true hatred that he showed whenever he truly looked at Shiro. Every day of his life he had looked at Shiro like he had wanted to kill him. But Shiro was not scared. He knew his enemy more than he thought.

"Since you have not done the honorable thing," Shiro continued to speak. "And granted me my title on the first day of Summer, as was agreed, I have no choice. I challenge you for the title of Alpha of the Reverence Pack."

"And if I decline your challenge?" Sakdah raised an eyebrow. He looked smugly at him, almost like he was close to laughing. "Tell me, Shiro, what happens then?"

"If you decline my challenge," Shiro said, his face still emotionless. "Then I will tell the rest of the Alphas in here the truth about you, as well as everything you've done."

"This is ridiculous, Shiro," Sakdah laughed. "What on earth are you talking about?"

"Everything," Shiro said. "From the Black Skies Ceremony, to the truth about my mother, as well as my grandfather," Sakdah was going to say something else, but Shiro put a hand up to stop him. "And don't think that I don't know about what you have done. I know everything, Sakdah Feng."

That name struck home with Sakdah. It truly left him silent. For once, it was Shiro who had cornered him. He had made his father believe that he was winning for so long that his guard was nowhere to be found. He didn't fear Shiro. For he still thought of Shiro as the small boy that he could use as a puppet and then throw away when the time was right. He had no clue what he was capable of.

"Either you accept my challenge," Shiro told him, his voice made to be as threatening as possible. "And we fight tonight for the leadership of the Reverence Pack, or the truth comes out to everyone. Either way," he looked at the man with venom in his gaze. "You will wind up dead tonight."

He knew his father would have escape routes. He could leave if he wanted to. But he also knew the stubbornness that the man had. He would not want to leave the pack that he had spent so much time gaining power over. Especially not to the son that he claimed as a 'faggot' just a month ago.

He saw it in the man's eyes. He still thought he was weak. He still thought he could win.

"I accept your challenge, Shiro," he said, straightening his robes as if nothing serious was going on. "You're foolish if you think that you can kill me."

"As were you," Shiro said. He smiled just to taunt him. "Under the Blood Moon, we will fight."

"Afterwards," Sakdah continued. "We will see who the strongest leader is."

"And you will die by the blade of your family," Sakdah said through a forced mind link.

"The Wang family line is stronger than you think," he told him. "How else do you think I would be able to perfect faking my own death?"

Sakdah's face showed so much hatred. He reveled in it. If there was one thing that they both had in common, it was a hatred for each other.

"Until tonight," Shiro bowed to end the conversation and walked out of those doors. He wasn't afraid of the man trying to attack him while he was leaving. He wouldn't do anything with the other Alphas there. Jett definitely wouldn't let him.

"You shook him up," Jett mind linked with him.

"Good."

He walked past the guards who were at the doors, none of them thinking of trying to stop him. Then he stood in the parking lot, looking out to the alleyways that were there. The shadows hid many things, and that wasn't just in the forest. He stood at the end of the parking lot, his aura and scent never vanishing. He would not hide it anymore. He would not hide anything anymore. This was the day in which they would all be free of that.

"Shiro!" he turned to see Nir, Roger, and Jett coming up to him, all with their respective Betas. The guards to the Reverence Pack had already vanished, along with their Alpha. He would want to prepare himself as much as possible with the new challenge Shiro gave him.

"I can't believe it," Roger looked at him in shock. "It really is you."

"It's nice to see you again, Alpha Roger," he bowed to him. "Alpha Nir," he did the same to him. "My apologies for the confusion."

"How?" Nir asked. Those dark blue eyes held so many questions in them.

"There are many secrets of the Reverence Pack," Shiro explained. "However, I believe the greatest is the one outside of it."

Just as he said it, the ones who he was waiting for came out of hiding. Wearing light gray cloaks with a symbol of water pouring out of a clay jug, they walked up to him. The one in the lead was a woman. Her cloak had intricate designs on them rather than the simple ones that the others had. White lace outlined the cloak that fit her body tightly. The hood, however, completely hid her face. All that they could see outside of the cloak was a necklace that had the same symbol that everyone else around her had. The charm was beautiful. Shiro missed seeing it. For it was their true power when they first started out. It had helped save all the people that were innocent.

"A sign of peace," Shiro turned back to the warry Alphas. He pulled out a pouch that jingled a little. He gave one to each of them.

"What is it?" Nir asked. He opened it up and pulled out one of the many vials that were in each pouch.

"A cure," Shiro told him. "This is the antidote to the poison that Sakdah had created. Just a small drop can cure even the biggest of your warriors that are affected by it."

It wasn't easy to make either. Dr. Bailey had worked tirelessly on creating it. By using Shiro's blood, she was able to make a potent antidote within the month that they were planning. It wasn't something that they had thought of at the beginning of all of this. But Shiro adopted the idea once Bailey told him that it had been perfected.

"I take it this is more than you not getting your title when you wanted to?" Nir asked him.

"It's much more than that," Shiro told him. "I'm afraid that there is much to talk about after this, and many things to clear up and apologize for. But I don't have the time to discuss them with you all right now."

"You had a part in this," Nir looked at Jett. "Didn't you?"

"I think it's about time we get going Alex," Jett smiled at Nir as he talked to his Beta. "There's some things we should prepare for."

"You have a lot to explain," Nir said. He looked more amused than anything, though.

"The fault goes to me," Shiro told him. "I ask that you don't blame Alpha Jett for holding back on certain information. It is all this way for a reason."

"And that reason?"

"The impatient man will never catch any fish," Shiro smiled.

"Quoting your grandfather will get you nowhere," Roger said. He was smiling too, though. "I still can't get over the fact that you're alive."

"Perhaps I can make up for a small amount of things," Shiro dug into his kimono and pulled out a file. "I would appreciate it if you would kindly give this to Detective Jim. It's something that my grandfather had been working on him with before he passed away."

Roger nodded and took the folder. In it contained the autopsy report for Shiro's mom. It was the one piece of evidence that his grandfather had against Sakdah. For it proved his daughters true cause of death.

"Who are they?" Roger asked. He still looked alarmed at the ones in cloaks around him.

"They are Mercy Waters," Shiro told him. "Striving for peace, they fight for what they love."

Shiro looked at Jett. This would be the last time he saw him that day. He wished he could hug him or give him a warmer farewell, but he kept his head held high. When this was all over with, he would be able to do whatever he wished. There was still much to look forward to.

"I have one request from you all," Shiro told them. "I request that you all keep an eye out on the city. The last thing I want is for anything bad to come to the citizens tonight."

"Do you really think that your father would do such a thing?"

"I believe that anything can happen with my father," Shiro bowed. "I must go now. The next time I see you, I have confidence that it will be under a much better situation."

Before anyone could speak anymore, he walked towards the gray cloaks. They gratefully took him in, happy to finally have their leader back. It had seemed like so long since he had been with them. He missed each and every one of them.

But the woman in the laced cloak was the one he missed the most.

"Good luck, Prince," Jett spoke one last time.

"Thank you," he smiled, even with knowing that Jett couldn't see him. For he was already lost to the shadows. "I love you."

"Love you too."

This wasn't goodbye. He would be back in those arms soon enough. This was merely a mission in which he had to do without him. Jett had helped all he could, and then some. Now it was time for Shiro to do what he must.

They went into the woods by the city. The Inn was no longer a safe place at the moment. Their second location was an area of the forest that was thick. It was apart of the neutral territory that was the city. But it was hidden from everyone. The fog rolled through it, making it more ominous than any other part of the forest. But to Shiro, it just reminded him of home.

There was a small clearing in which they stopped in. The woman who was cloaked walked to the middle where a thick stump had been. It had been cut way before he was even born, yet it held much wisdom all in of itself. For a stump could still live, even without its large trunk. Trees were hardy.

The woman waited for him in the center, as everyone quickly circled around the area. Shiro waited until he was sure that everyone was there before he slowly walked up to the middle. Once he did, he took off his kimono. Underneath it, he wore white pants in which they had all worn when they trained. His chest was without a shirt. There was a reason for its' nakedness.

As soon as he sat down on the stump, the hoods were all put down. Familiar faces smiled at him, silently cheering for his return. Geo, Jin and Miki stood in front of him. They had been directly behind him as he walked. He wasn't sure if Geo told Alex where he was going, but he hoped that it didn't worry his mate too much. He was sure that Alex would try and give him an earful if anything happened to him. It was cute to see just how much he cared for someone he considered his brother.

The woman had even taken off her hood, showing the sister that he had longed to see for the entire month he was recovering. She smiled proudly at him.

"Welcome back, Shiro," Hiroko said. In her hands, she held a bowl of blue ink. It was not permanent, but it would stain his skin long enough to serve its purpose.

"It's good to be back," Shiro smiled back at her. Then he looked to all the people that surrounded them. Behind his council, there were all five hundred members. They stood around the area with pride in their eyes as they saw him.

"Together we have been stronger," he spoke to them all. "Together we have survived five long years of hiding and fear. Together we have bided our time, looking for the right moment in which to strike the enemy that we kept close. We have all been hurt by him, no matter the severity.'

"I thank you all for your loyalty and bravery. For you all show the true strength of the Reverence Pack. You have remained faithful to the Spirit of the Moon as well as me, and I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you." Every person he looked at, he would meet their eyes. All of them shined with pride for what they were. But there was still hurt and worry in some of those eyes. He did not wish them to worry any more, nor did he want them to hurt. They had suffered enough. And it was time to end that.

"One by one, come up to me," Shiro continued. "Dip your finger in the ink and mark it on my body. For together we have suffered, and together we will seek our revenge."

Even Miki, Jin, and Geo would put their fingerprint on him. They had to be there. For they were the active council for this rogue pack, and they needed to lead them when Shiro was challenging Sakdah. This had been planned from the very start. These people were the sole reason to why he kept living; to why he strived to become greater. They were his purpose. They were his strength.

And, with their fingerprints on his chest and back, they would all seek revenge.
