《For The Sake Of》CHAPTER 14: Picnic

"Whatever", he said and I watched him walk over to her.
Thank God he agreed!
Leaving them alone, I went and took a shower.
Coming down, when I reached the living room, I found both Isaac and Emmeline on the couch, sitting together and watching Frozen; their sight melted my heart. They both looked so cute together, just like father-daughter...wait, what am I even thinking.
"I don't like this guy, Hans", Emmeline remarked making Isaac frown, "Why?"
"Because he is not a good guy...you will see."
"But he looks good to me, see he is helping everyone."
"No. He is not good, he just wants to rule Arendelle."
I cleared my throat and walked up to them and said to Isaac, "Did you make something for dinner?"
"Dinner? Why should I make it?"
"You could have at least made something, Isaac! I am so tired and now I will have to make the dinner even!"
"I can't make dinner unless you want me to burn down the whole kitchen."
I folded my arms in surprise, "You don't know how to cook?"
"There is nothing shocking in that."
"Of course it is", saying that I sat down on the couch with Emmeline in between us, "I wanted my husband to at least know how to cook."
"Unfortunately your husband doesn't know how to cook, now shut up."
"Are you both fighting?", Emmeline asked softly, looking between us curiously.
I looked at her and then at Isaac and I said gently, "No, we are not fighting."
"Don't worry, I will order something", Isaac said.
"I'll eat pizza!", I said feeling happy all of a sudden.
"Me too!", Emmeline chirped in making us both chuckle.
"Alright", he said with a small smile on his lips as he took out his phone.

"You will be sleeping with me", I told Emmeline, entering my bedroom with her in my arms.
"OK."
I laid her down on one side of the bed, pulling the duvet over her.
"Thera?"
"Yes?", I answered while I put my phone on charging.
"You and Isaac are married, right?", she asked and I got on the bed and laid beside her facing her.
"Yes."
"Then why are you both sleeping separately?", she questioned innocently completely unaware of our situation.
I tried to think of a valid answer and in the end all I could say was, "I am actually angry with him, that's why."

"Oh."
After contemplating for a while I asked her, "Do you want to talk to your mother?"
"Yes!"
I smiled at her and then I walked over to my cupboard and pulled out a phone which I use only one I have to call someone and I don't want that person to get my personal phone number.
It's okay to talk to Bethany. I kept chanting in my mind.
I decided to video call her and I dialled the number Josh gave me.
As soon as it started to ring, I handed the phone to Emmeline while I sat beside her and watched her making sure I was not visible in the call.
Bethany picked up the call, and her eyes widen in surprise, "Emm?!"
"Mom!"
"Are you okay? Where are you right now? Did you eat anything?"
I mentally rolled my eyes at her questions. Of course I fed her.
Had they being a little more responsible, she would have been with them.
"Mom, my leg got sprained but Thera took me to a hospital and it got treated, see", Emmeline said showing her, her legs.
"And she has such a big house, it even has a swimming pool and everything here is so beautiful. And we ate pizza and we all watched Frozen."
I could see Bethany smiling at her.
I slowly took the phone from her hand and bought it in front of me making Bethany shocked. Even I was shocked because I never thought that I would talk to her but then again I remembered that it was not Bethany that I had problem with.
"Hey Beth", I said in a low voice.
"Umm...hi, L...I mean Thera."
"I just wanted to say that Emmeline is staying with me for now and as soon as her leg heals a bit, I will send her back. And don't tell anyone else that...I talked to you."
She nodded, "Thank you, Thera for keeping her and if you say I can come fetch her myself."
"No, it's OK. I will send her along with Josh my best friend in my jet. You don't need to come."
"As you say. And you look more beautiful now, Thera." I smiled in response to her and muttered a small thank you.
"Does Emm knows that you..."
"No, she doesn't and I don't want her to. Bye.", I cut her off and I hung up the call.

I switched off the phone and kept it back in the cupboard and sighed heavily.
"You should sleep now", I said to Emmeline and she nodded and laid down.
Switching off the light, I laid beside her and placed a small kiss on her forehead.
"Goodnight, Emmeline."
"Goodnight, Thera", she yawned.

I spent the half of my morning explaining Cynthia about Emmeline and since it was weekend, I was free!
I know I am very childish.
"Can I go somewhere?", Emmeline asked sitting across me on the dining table while Cynthia prepared us breakfast.
"No, you can't go anywhere. You should rest."
She pouted sadly.
"But I will get bored", she whined.
She is just like me.
"No, you won't. I am here to entertain you babe."
Cynthia quietly placed in front of us cheese omelette. And I started eating it while Emmeline still looked sad.
I really, really love kids but sometimes they can really test your patience.
Just then Isaac walked down dressed in a casual jeans and T-shirt.
As he walked inside the kitchen, he looked between me, who was casually eating and Emmeline, who sat there with folded arms.
He bent down and asked Emmeline, "What happened?"
"Thera said that I cannot go anywhere", she replied sadly.
He looked at me for a moment and then looked back at her, "Where do you wanna go?"
My jaw dropped.
"I am not stupid for not sending her back home because her leg is sprained! And here you are taking her out!", I bursted.
"It's not like I am sending her to a race or something. We can go to a park and you can carry her."
"A park, yay!", she exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes and continued with my breakfast while Isaac joined us and kept talking to her throughout the breakfast.
In that case, we can also send her back.
"Thera hurry!", I heard Emmeline shout while I quickly slipped into a pair of jeans and a crop top.
I opened the door to see an impatient Isaac as well as an impatient Emmeline in his arms.
Walking down the stairs, I said to Isaac, "I also invited Josh and Nyle."
He deadpanned, "We are just going for a stroll not on a picnic."
"Whatever...the more, the merrier", I grinned.
"Now, who wants to eat ice cream?", Nyle asked everyone as we all were sprawled on the bedsheet that I bought along.
"Me!", Josh, Emmeline and I shouted in response.
Emmeline is really friendly, minutes after meeting Nyle she was so comfortably talking to him, even I never talked to someone so comfortably after just meeting them.
"Bring one for Isaac also", I said despite Isaac told us that he doesn't wants to eat.
"I don't want to eat!", he snapped at me.
"Oh you will", I said pulling his cheeks, irritating him completely.
I winked at Nyle, gesturing him to bring one for Isaac even and he winked back before going away to buy the ice cream.
After Nyle left, Emmeline insisted Josh to take her also around the park so Josh along with Emmeline left leaving just me and Isaac behind.
"I can't believe you turned a simple stroll into a family picnic", Isaac complained.
"It was you who suggested about the park, I just made it better", I rolled my eyes.
He just mumbled underneath his breath and I quietly laid down on the sheet facing the sky.
It felt refreshing but that feeling lasted only for a few seconds because I could smell the cigarette smoke.
I got up, exasperatedly and glared at Isaac who sat there staring at nothing in particular and smoked.
But then my gaze soften; he looked so lost in his thoughts, and I felt sad because I knew who he was thinking about. Wish I could do something.
"Isaac?", I softly called making him snap out of his thoughts.
He looked startled, "Y-yeah?"
I shifted closer to him and placed my hand on his shoulder, "You okay?"
He looked at my hand that was on his shoulder and then at me, "Of course I am okay."
"But you don't-"
"I am fine, Thera."
I slowly removed my hand from his shoulder feeling sad that he isn't willing to open up to me.
Just then, Nyle, Josh and Emmeline arrived holding ice creams in their hand.
"Please don't smoke near her", I said almost in a whisper and he quickly discarded it.
Nyle handed us our ice cream and even Isaac and this time he didn't protest about not eating it, he quietly accepted it.
Sitting on the sheet, we all chatted with each other except for Isaac who just spoke hardly.
Somewhere in between, I felt something warm and soft touch my hand and I looked down to see Isaac's hand intertwining with mine. Looking up at him, he was still eating his ice cream, looking at Nyle, Josh and Emmeline who were chatting with each other.
I intertwined my hand with his and a warm, happy smile crept up my face.
