《Addiction [boyxboy]》21. "i was shot because of you"

I stared at Jacob in surprise and worry. His eyes were a cold shade and he just stared at my face, no emotion showing at all.
He put his hand up to lay it on my cheek but I quickly stood up. He left his hand out for a second before placing it down.
I still had the same look on my face as I sat down in front of where he was laying. I was still trying to process what he was saying. I was trying to think of a question to ask.
"W-why did she sh-shoot you?" I stuttered out, quietly.
He breathed a deep sigh before answering. "That's not important." He said.
I looked at him like he had two heads. "Yes, it is!" I practically shouted. "I want to know why she shot you! What was the purpose behind it??!"
He exhaled again. He was silent for a fee moments while I stared at him. I could tell by his concentrated look that he was contemplating over telling me or not.
"You." He said suddenly.
"What?" I asked, confused as to what he meant.
He closed his eyes and took another breath. "I was shot because of you."
My eyes widened. "What? Why-"
He cut me off before I could finish my question. "Because of what happened at the mall." He looked at me. "And because when she mentioned you, I defended you."
I stood up quickly as he tried to rub my back. I just couldn't believe this. I'm the reason Jacob got shot.
It's all my fault.
I felt tears burning at my eyelids. I tried to push them away but my eyes were already watering.
I turned around to Jacob and I guess he realized that I was about to cry because his eyes gotten even more soft as he stood up quickly and started walking towards me. But I made sure to put space between us before he could get to me.
"We shouldn't hang out anymore." I said suddenly, not even knowing where that thought was coming from. I was just speaking without thinking. "I don't want you to get in anymore trouble because of me. This is all my fault."

He shook his head as he started speaking. "No, it's not. I'm the one who stood up for you when she brought you up earlier during our dealing meet."
"Yeah, but you wouldn't have had to stand up for me if I wouldn't have acted out, causing you to act up." I responded quickly to which he quickly shut his mouth and stopped talking. He knew I was right.
"I have to take you home." I said, to which he thankfully did not argue.
.....
"Just drop me off here, I'll walk the rest of the way." Jacob said for the billionth time, to which I argued.
"No! You're wounded and I'm not dropping you off anywhere unless it's in front of your house."
"Well then I guess I'm not going home." He replied.
I groaned loudly. "Why won't you just tell me where your house is? I'm tired and I want to go to sleep." I said. Honestly though, I've been practically driving all around the town just waiting for him to tell me his address for the past twenty minutes.
He shrugged. "I just don't want to tell you."
"Why not?!?" I yelled as I abruptly stopped the car, causing him to lurch forward, luckily I forced him to put on a seatbelt before we left. I turned towards him and gave a hard glare. "Just tell me your address." I said, firmly.
He looked over at me, amusement glinting in his eyes. "No." He responded.
"Why not?" I asked, tiredness taking over my voice as it cracked.
Something flashed through his eyes. "I just don't want to tell you." Lie.
I squinted at him. "You're lying, there's more to it. You wouldn't have hesitated if there wasn't."
In response, he just stared back at me. He didn't speak, he didn't even open his mouth and try. For the second time of the night, he was at a loss for words.
I rolled my eyes. "Fine, whatever." I said before pulling off to the side of a random road and taking the key out of the ignition. I unbuckled my seatbelt and laid down on my side. "Goodnight." I said as I closed my eyes.

"Ha ha," he said, sounding unamused. When I didn't answer he started talking again. "Wait, you can't be serious?" He asked, disbelief obvious in his voice.
I just decided to ignore him though and try to go to sleep. "Look, this isn't safe." He continued. "You can't just sleep on the side of the street. You could get your car broken into and kidnapped, or worse, murdered!" He exclaimed.
I peered over at him. "I'd rather take my chances of having someone break into my car and kidnap me than fall asleep while driving and get into an accident."
He just stared at me like I was crazy. "You're doing all this because I won't tell you my address?" He asked, incredulously.
"That, and I'm actually tired now from driving you all over town."
He was silent for a moment before I heard him sigh. "I'll give you directions." He said suddenly.
I opened my eyes and sat up and looked at him. "Really?" I asked, surprised that he is finally going to show me his house.
He wouldn't look at me, just at his lap. "Just start driving."
I put the car into ignition and started driving. He was silent for most of the drive but every once in a while he would give me a direction.
Eventually we turned into a trailer park. And he told me a number. We pulled up to a white trailer, it was a little rusty and looked really worn down.
"Bye." He said as he opened the door and started getting out.
I grabbed his arm before he could exit the car. "Wait!" I shouted to him. "What's wrong?" I asked. I could tell something was wrong. He didn't talk the whole way to his house, he didn't even flirt with me.
He didn't look at me and he spoke really silently, but I could still make out what he said.
"I didn't want you to know where I lived."
I looked at him, confused. "Why though?" I asked to which he turned to me suddenly and yelled.
"'Cause I'm embarrassed!" He yelled at me, before quickly getting out and slamming the door shut.
All I could do was stare at him in surprise as he walked away and into his house.
Why would I make fun of him?
.....
I got home around 2AM, considering Jacob lived almost an hour away from my house and I got lost on the way.
I walked into my house to hear my mom call my name. "Yes mom?" I called back as she came into the entrance way with worry evident in her eyes.
"Why is there blood in the dining room and on the floor?! Are you okay?! Did someone hurt you?! Where were you?!? I was so worried!!" She shot question after question, not giving me any time to answer.
"Mom. Mom! MOM!" I yelled, cutting off her rant. She loomed me in the eyes, a look between worry and anger in them. "I'm fine. That's Jacob's blood." She opened her mouth to interrupt but I cut her off before she could answer. "And before you ask, yes he's okay."
She sighed. "Then where were you?" She asked.
"I was taking Jacob home."
She sighed again. She nodded her head and turned around to go upstairs but paused and turned around.
"Clean up your boyfriend's blood before you go to bed."

He bit down on his bottom lip, hesitation and worry filling his gaze. __This is literally a story that follows the plot of two best friends realizing their feelings for each other, yes, I know, very cliche, but I enjoyed writing it.
