《ODDITY ⇆ DOCTOR WHO》0.10 | G.L

One trip, in the TARDIS, then home." The Doctor scratched the back of his head, turning knobs on the TARDIS.
"Although, I suppose, we could stretch the definition. One trip to the past one trip to the future, how do you suppose that?" He asked, Martha's face lightening up with a smile. She laughed giddy. She rocked forward on the seat.
"No complaints from me." She enthusiastically replied. Valarie scooter closer to Martha on the beige seat they shared.
"None from me either." She smirked, both girls watching the Doctor with wonder and enthusiasm.
"How about, a different planet?" He sighed, almost dreamily. Different planets were much to him, but he knew the idea of any other planet being even remotely visitable was an impossible dream to humans. Humans were so fresh and new, they barely knew their own planet yet.
"Can we go to yours?" Martha suggested, the Doctors smile faltering for a moment as it seemed it almost broke. He turned away and back to the console quickly.
"Nah, there's plenty of other places!" He debated, Martha sprinting from her seat to rush the console.
"Oh, c'mon now! Planet of the time lords, got to be worth a look." She took a spot by his side. The Doctor never once looked at the girls as Valarie moved to pace the console as Martha did.
"It was beautiful, yeah."
"Oh, outer space cities!" Martha sighed.
"Giant temples and cathedrals!" Valarie gawked, imaging whatever planet he dropped from had to be beautiful. She couldn't imagine a man as wonderful as him coming from anything but.
"Planets in the sky." Martha almost whispered, walking back to his side as Valarie lingered on the opposite side of the console; eyes watching the odd blue intrusiveness inside the glass tube pump.
"The sky's burned orange. With a giant citadel in a glass dome." He finally revealed. Valarie took note of his expression, which held more of reflection then it did joy. She found it odd, he didn't seem to want to reflect on it too much.
"Shining under the twin suns. The mountains went on forever." He was getting lost in his own words, as the girls eyes twinkled as they fell into almost a daze at his description of a home that was long gone.
"Fields of red grass, capped with snow." His eyes held in no particular spot, as it seemed the air was knocked from his lungs. He stopped himself as he looked down to hide his face.
"Can we go there?" Valarie sighed dreamily.
"Nah! Where's the fun for me? I don't want to go home!" It was rather odd how briefly he cut himself off from thinking of such a wondrous home. "Instead, this is something better. The year three million and fifty-three; New Earth!"

"It's five light years away from your earth and we are smack dab in the middle of New New York! Well, techniauqually it's the fifteenth New York; making it New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York!" He explained, pulling his coat on and opening the door. With a hand on Valarie back, he pushed the girls out into it; and into rain.
"Lovely!" Valarie cried as Martha tried to zip her coat up. The Doctor shut the TARDIS, not affected by the rain.
"Nah; a little rain never hurt anyone. C'mom, let's get cover!" He nudged the two along as they ran through the rain; water slapping against shins as puddles were deep and wet. Mud stained the bottom of her shoes and drop of it were against Valarie's bare ankle.
"Looks like same old Earth to me! On a Wednesday afternoon." Martha commented, obviously not impressed as they finally found cover against a door.
"Hold on, lets have a look." The Doctor pulled out the sonic, buzzing a black screen on the door that flickered to life. The image of a blonde woman was on it; a typical weather woman image.
"And the driving should be easy, with fifteen new lanes are open in the New New Jersey express way." The image changed from the forced smile to a beautiful cliff side; flying cars hovering over the ground as citadel's loomed behind them. The Doctor tapped the screen.
"That's more like it; that's were we went last time. We must be on the lower levels," he cranes his neck to view from under the awning which still dripped from rain. ", down the tower, under the city."
"You brought me to the slums?" Martha asked, arms folded as water droplets ran down her face from her soaked hair.
"Much more interesting! It's all cocktails and glitter up there. This is the real city."
"You'd enjoy anything." Valarie commented, still trying to wring her damp coat out. "That's me." The Doctor smiled.
"Ah, the rains stopping. Getting better and better!" He gawked, genuinely fascinated with the underbelly to the rich and lavish they were in.
"When you said last time, was that you and Rose?" Martha suddenly asked, causing him to stop and turned. Hair hung into his eyes from being sopping wet.
"Um, yeah, it was, yeah." His response was oddly short. Martha shook her head, holding onto her arms as the chill of the rain set in.
"You're taking us to the same planets you took her?"
"What's wrong with that?!"
"Nothing. But 'ave you ever heard the word rebound?" Martha mumbled moving to walk away. Her shoulders were tense and her arms folded in an obvious pose of annoyance and anger. Suddenly, one of the wooden green pillars that surrounded them sprung open like a concession booth. A man stood with a giddy smile.

"How long have you been there? You should've seen me sooner! Happy, you want happy? Happy!" He cried cheerily, almost too happy himself. Valarie frowned. A man was selling happiness? The idea of an emotion being sold perplexed her. She was so used to the idea of her emotions being dictated by what people said, or by what the media told her she should feel.
"Customers! We've got customers!" A woman bellowed as her booth sprung open. Suddenly, around them all, booths began to sprang open with merchants of emotions shouting out their offers.
"Happy, buy some happy!"
"Anger! You want anger!"
"It's mellow, makes you feel all bendy and soft all day long!" They all cried, waving small flaps of what look like patches. The same kind Valarie had seen on former smoker or addicts arms.
"Don't go to them! They'll rip you off! Do you want some happy?" The man asked, eyes locked on the Doctor who looked rather disgusted. "No thanks." He mumbled silently, as his eyes slowly soaked in the peddlers.
"What are they selling? Drugs?" Martha asked, in awe.
"I think they're selling moods." He responded lowly, spinning around slowly to take a long look at each one of them. Slowly, from the ally, emerged a grin looking woman. Her blonde hair was tucked into a scarf and dark bags where formed under her eyes.
"I want to buy forget." She silently announced to a female merchant. The merchant nodded and smiled, not at all taken back by the woman's grieving exterior like Martha and Valarie were.
"I've got forget darling. How much you want? How strong? Whatcha need to forget?"
"My mother and father. They went on the motorway." She mumbled, obviously not proud of her soon-to-be purchase of the amnesia.
"Oh, that's a swine." She sighed, before reaching back and handing the woman a small clear patch with a moon stamped on it. "Try this; forget forty-three. Two credits." She explained as the woman took it in shaky hands. The Doctor slowly approached her, wet hair still dripping before his brown eyes.
"Sorry, but what happened to your parents?" He asked, reaching out to stop her before she forgot what.
"They drove off."
"But they might drive back?" He more-so asked then informed. He was deeply confused by the idea that this woman made a drive sound like a death sentence.
"Everyone goes to the motorway in the end." She grimly sighed, looking down. Her eyes had a tick, and her hands were shaky. Her bloodshot eyes traveled to rack over the three. Valarie visibly shuddered; from the chill that had began to set in under her wet denim jacket, or the woman's melancholy gaze, she'll never know.
"But you can find them." The Doctor imputed. She shook her head, before pulling her scarf back and placing it in her neck before anyone could take it away. Her eyes glazed over and swayed lightly, as if all the grief had been ripped from her.
"I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
"Your parents." The Doctor responded, now knowing it would be too late to draw anymore information about the motorway from her.
"So that's the human race in five billion years? Off their heads on chemicals?" Martha mumbled, before screaming as she walked away. The Doctor and Valarie spun on their heels; a man had his leather clad jackets arm wrapped around her throat.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. But we need three. Just three." He apologized as a woman emerged, pointing a gun at the two. The Doctor grabbed Valarie's arm, dragging her behind him as he began to shout at the two.
"Let her go! I'm warning you!" He pointed a finger as the woman. She continued to profusely apologize as they dragged Martha back and away. They vanished behind a door, locking it with a sickening thud. Valarie lunged towards the door, banging her hands against it until the Doctor ripped her away. He soniced the door, pulling it open and running down the long hall as the commotion Martha had made had went sickeningly silent.
They turned twisted corners and ran among empty boxes and pieces of plastic; the air wasn't clear, as dust made it somewhat dark. Valarie couldn't barely see the Doctor's face when she snuck a glance at him.
Valarie turned a sharp corner; her shoes snagging a loose piece of plastic film and her left foot flying out from under her. She hissed in pain as the sting of a scrap set in. The Doctor spun, hand reaching down to help. She didn't take time to assure she was fine, as the door that Martha had vanished behind was in sight. Valarie opened the door and pushed out with the Doctor's chest to her back. A futuristic car had began its lift off the ground.
"Martha!" He screamed as the car vanished down a road; gone just as soon as it had came to sight. And with it, left Martha.

The Lady's Handbook of Intrigue and Murder (High Fantasy Politics)
Summary:The daughter of a dying house is summoned to the Imperial City to meet and perhaps marry a handsome prince. It sounds like a fairy tale. Except Mydea doesn’t have the advantage of a half-forgotten childhood encounter, supreme magic to match the highest echelons of society, or even the privilege of an ally. In order to survive and make a name for herself, she must beat the Imperial Court at its own game. At least no one's tried to kill her—yet. Notes: Basically, if you liked the magic of Harry Potter and the politics of Game of Thrones, you'll probably like this. While the first book focuses on the female lead, and the interplay of competing regional and imperial interests, subsequent books will also cover warfare and how I imagine that differs wildly from historical norms with the introductions of a magical aristocracy. NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
