《Love is not weakness (clexa) book 1》acid fog #5

I wake up with a start to the retreat horn being blown i go to get up to see what it was all about but I find I can't get up something it holding me down.
I look down to see clarke we are tangled in each others arms. Then I remember I told her she can stay with me last night I slowly peel her arms off of mine before she wakes up and asks questions why we slept like that I didn't even notice it as we feel asleep with a space between us, we both must have moved around in our sleep.
As I get dressed and run outside Indra runs up to me.
"you need to go back inside Heda acid for incoming from the west, scouts in the near woods spotted it in the distance and sent a message to sound the horn." Indra says as I look up and can see it slowly creating towards us.
I go back to my tent to wake clarke up but find her already awake.
"Hey" She says in a sleepy voice. "I suppose I need to head back or questions will start being asked, I would love to stay with you and your people but mine need me i will come visit tomorrow?" She says as I realise she won't get back in time.
"Uh... Clarke you need to stay in my tent. Acid fog incoming from the west it melts your skin at the touch it will kill you. You won't make it back in time, but it will be over in a couple of hours." I say and she looks up at me with a weird look.
"Acid fog? I no what acid is and I no have heard of fog but not them both. What is it?" She says and sits down knowing she can't go out.
"It's a weapon the mountain men use against us." I tell her.
"Who's the mountain men? Why would they need a weapon?" She asks in confusion I wasn't going to tell her about them yet but I suppose she has to find out sooner or later. I motion for her to sit down so I can explain.

"Clarke... I.. I didn't want you to find out about then yet. They aren't very nice people... They use us for our blood and kill us" I start to trail off when I realise she has only been down here for a couple if days when she lived in space she didn't have to worry what the nest day would bring and now down here you don't even no if you will see the next day, she is just a child... Just w child like me in reality we are all just child, child who got trapped in the adults game, the adults sick and twisted game of life or death.
"Please tell me what the do? What do they do with acid fog?" She asks in a pleading voice.
"Only if your sure?" I say and she just nods so I carry on.
"As I said they try and use us for our blood we call is blooding because they can't go out of the mountain because of radiation our blood has evolved to be able to cope with it and so has yours because the radiation is even higher in space. They want to reclaim the ground but the only way is if they use our blood and drain us of it and replace there own with it. Its sick o no but we have been trying for years to stop it but every time we do we only lose more people." I stop for a moment and look at Clarke her face covered in pure horror I decide to just finish anyway. "The acid fog is used whenever they feel threatened or they just wanna have a bit of fun and kill some of us. They use it on us because they know we can't do anything about it we can't go outside with it around." I say as I finish Clarke rests a hand on mine I don't understand this gesture but I don't move anyway.
"I'm so sorry I didn't realise what they do to you. But why didn't you just kill them all?" She asks I realise now it would have been easier just to kill them all.
"We have tried to fight back but then they release the fog to stop us getting near them." I say getting up to have a look out and see if the fog is clearing yet.

"We will think of something I promise, is the fog clearing?" She asks.
"Yeah it is give it another half an hour and it will all be gone." I say sitting back done.
"Hey Clarke? Do you want to go back to your people now? All the fog had cleared and my guards say its safe again." I tell Clarke trying not to sound to disappointed that she is going.
"Um... Yeah I suppose I need to get back or everyone will be wondering where I am. Will you come with me? You don't have to come in just walk back I... I um... I don't want to get lose?" Clarke says almost as a question I nod anyway and go to tell my guards that I will be gone off a few hours.
After walking for a bit Clarke's camp comes into sight and she runs up to the gates.
"Clarke? Can you meet me here tomorrow? Just outside I will wait for you and I will show you more places if you want?" When I say this she looks really happy and just replies with a simple yes and runs off.
I look in her camp before I go back and I can see her talking to a few people I can only just hear what is being said I can't tell who is saying what though.
"Clarke where have you been?"
"What was the foggy type stuff?"
"I thought you were dead,I'm glad your not."
I can hear a lot of questions being asked so I leave her to it. As I start to walk back I keep hearing twigs snapping that aren't from me I know because I got taught from a young age to be light on my feet in case someone was following. I look around and I can see someone running in the distance it looks like they are running towards me so I quickly pull of my sword ready to fight if needed.
I see the person suddenly collapse against a tree I slowly creep up to them carefully knowing that it could be a trap and they can pounce any second, but as I come closer I see its Clarke.
"Clarke?" I ask quietly. She looks up at me and it looks like she was crying? But why would she be crying.
"Please go away I don't want you seeing me like this, please? I'm fine." She says while trying to calm her sobs. She lowers her head so I can't see her head. I softly lift her chin up with my hand. And look her dead in the eyes with sympathy but also showing her that I won't go until she tells me what wrong.
"Clarke please tell me what's wrong. You were so happy a minute ago." I ask and she sits up.
"Another 8 gone, 8 more innocent lives gone like that. It was all because of that stupid acid fog. We didn't know what it was and they were out looking for more food. I can't save anyone." She says trying to hold back more tears.
"I'm sorry Clarke. I wish I had sent someone to warn your people but there really wasn't time please forgive me?" I ask pleadingly.
"It wasn't your fault and if it wasn't for you most of us would be dead by now anyway including me so don't blame yourself. At least my people know now to keep away from it." She says.
"Do you want to go back inside now?" I ask and she just nods and gets up. "Oh and Clarke? What's your favourite thing to do? Like in the ark what did you do for fun?" I ask and she just replies with a simply answer of drawing and anything to do with art.
I am a but confused as to why someone wouldn't want to fight for fun or hunt but the sky people have different ways to us.
As I am walking back to my people I think of a really good idea for tomorrow. I hope she will like it and it may take her mind off everything that has happened she deserves a rest.

A Sinner's Eden
The Earth of the future is united under a single government, but not all things are well. The shape of the playing field may be changed, but the powerful still rule the weak. And those who do not conform with the rest of society are exiled to another world. A world that not even the technology of the future managed to tame.It should have been humanity's New World but ended up as nothing more than a penal colony. A place where the exiled are sent to die. Motivated by revenge, Magnus sets out on a quest to bring his own justice to his enemies. For that purpose, he is willing to go further than most others. But then he learns that if he truly wishes to change things, he can only find his answers beyond the gate. Having lived most of her life as an exile, Astra is a woman of few interests aside from survival and climbing the ranks of her clan.To achieve those goals, she certainly won't be squeamish when a chance literally falls into her lap, or will she? ——————————————————————————————— I am trying to go with a survival/medieval setting in this one. People from a technologically advanced society are thrown into a world where they can't maintain their tech. They are forced to rely on medieval technology where they have to make do with the limited resources they have and what little of their old technology is still working. Their gene manipulation allows them to have something akin to superpowers, but that doesn't help much against the monsters of their new world. Not sure yet whether sufficiently advanced technology will be discovered later on to count as magic. ——————————————————————————————— Author's Comment: I was asked about reading my work on other sites. The answer is simple: Currently, I am not active in any other networks than royalroadl.com. Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun. And if people try to make money with it you shouldn't bother visiting their website. The only one whom I actually allowed to have my work on his website is Armaell who invested the time to compile them into pdf. (http://armaell-library.net/author/andur)

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"
