《Baby Batty》01

"Seriously kid you aren't fooling anyone." The man says.

"I am a 23 year old woman! Look at my ID." I respond.

"Look little girl I'm not interested in breaking child labour laws. Your fake ID may be good but you still look 12. Go home to mommy and daddy. I don't see why a cute little thing like you would want to work anyway." He says making me mad.

"I'm not a child!" I yell stomping my foot.

"Yea and throwing a temper tantrum will convince me of that... Go home kid." He dismisses me and I stomp out of the store.

And people wonder why I'm a thief! No one will hire me! I am 23 but no one believes me! I have no choice but to steal if I want to eat and make my rent. I have another couple weeks before I need to pay rent but my fridge is empty.

"I gues I'm visiting the wolves tonight." I mumble to myself.

As soon as the moon rises I shift into my other form. No I am not a werewolf. There are shifters of all knids and I happen to be a bat. No I am not a vampire. They can not shift and they hate that humans mistake them for bat shifters considering it an insult. With the Vampir's tendency to act impulsively its no surprise they began to attack my kind. We are practically extinct. I could be the last one for all I know and I'm not even full grown. Though I should be an adult bat my development was stunted. My bat form is like a baby. My human form is only 4'10". Now the tallest of bats only gets to about 5'4" but I'm not even 5' and I look young.

Anyway back to the task at hand, food. The werewolves hunt a couple times a week and lucky for me it is a hunting night.

I fly over the mansion they live in unnoticed.

"Clean it up for me Tommy. I'm gonna shower." I hear a male say and catch the sight of my dinner.

A male wolf disappears into the building as another begins preping the meat and discarding the unusable organs. They do most of the butchering inside so I have to pick from the edible organs. I can't stomach heart sooo...

I swoop down when the wolf's back is turned and snatch up the liver. I don't particularly like liver but I don't have many options and my papa always said liver is good for you... I think he was just lying to get me to eat it but it worked.

I fly away back to my tiny apartment. I go in through the open window and drop my reward on the table before shifting back. I prep and cook my meat saving some for later only eating about a fourth before storing the rest. I won't be able to get more for a few days so I have to make it last.

The wolves haven't even noticed me yet so I'd say things are going pretty well considering I've robbed their safe twice and stolen food multiple times. Now it's time for bed. I'll try the local factory tomorrow. I was hoping for retail or waitressing jobs but no such luck. Tomorrow will be better... It has to be.

"Go home kid I'm sure your parents are missing you." The plant manager says after laughing through a fake interview you would give to a child. He won't take me seriously no matter what I do.

"My parents are dead. I've been on my own for 7 years since I was 16. I truthfully am an adult sir. Please give me a chance. I'm a hard worker. You won't regret it." I plead with him and he sighs.

"You aren't lying are you?... I'm sorry miss Mackenzie I really don't have any openings... My brother owns a company in town that might have a place for you. I can give you a recommendation. You look like you could use a break." He says finally realizing the truth.

"Thank you... I'd appriceate that." I respond and he smiles.

"Sure thing little one. I'll call him today. Be at this address tomorrow at noon. He'll take you to lunch for your interview." He says and I gulp.

"Can't we just meet at his office?" I ask knowing I can't afford lunch.

"I can only promis you a meeting on his lunch hour... Don't worry about the cost. One look at you and he will pay." He smirks.

"I'm not a prostitute!" I yell at him.

"Never said you were but you are cute and little and he won't want you to worry about anything... Let's just say taking care of little ones is in his nature." The man says and I nod. I don't like people paying for me but a nice lunch does sound good.

"Okay, tomorrow at noon."
