《Kick-ass Career Guide for Women》Prioritize your day and ignore the noise

There are only so many hours we can fit in a workday before our bodies tell us we need rest.
To help prioritize the day, I recommend a technique where we work with:
*- the high priority tasks
*- mid-range priority tasks
*- low priority tasks.
If you're a procrastinator like me, it's tempting to start with the low priority tasks, which are often the easiest to complete. However, I found that by doing so, I would leave the high priority tasks to the latter half of the day.
By the time I was about to start on the high priority tasks, I was often interrupted by other urgent requests.
Then, I ended up working late to deliver my reports and complete the high priority tasks, known as the "rocks." This was not productive either to myself or my family.
As part of managing my time better, I now start my day with the "rocks", then the "sand", then finish off with the "pebbles". The result is that I produce better results, keep my team (including my boss) happy, and I come home on time for my family.
By tackling the more difficult tasks, the day's challenges can become fun, giving a more positive mindset to the day. The low priority tasks can wait for the next day, or I outsource these tasks to other members of the team.
Another good habit is to ignore the "noisy" emails that serve very little or no purpose to create or enhance productivity. This includes emails that have no relevant impact to your tasks, emotional emails that serve no purpose, or emails from those who can resolve the issues themselves.
Be selective about which meetings or events you choose to attend. If they add little value to the overall outcome of your projects, think about how you can use that time to complete tasks that require attention (especially the "rocks").

Every week I decline at least one or two meeting requests that do not add value to my work schedule or team. It's okay to say no. I encourage you to learn to say no when it is relevant and appropriate.
I've said no to other managers who ask me to complete a task for them if it has no benefit or relevance to my responsibilities, projects, or objectives. I redirect them to others who are in a better position to help them.
I also decline pushy sales calls. I cut them about fifteen seconds into the conversation and politely decline their offer or services.
The day is short, so make the most of the time you have. Remember that working longer hours does not equate to working smarter.
It is important to take short breaks during the day. A few minutes every hour or every two hours to stretch your legs, arms, or even have a brief chat with a colleague, helps to make the day less stressful.
Come home on time (not too late) so you can relax and exercise.

Necromancer's Resolve
Foster Locke's life wasn't the harshest it could have been. But it wasn't the easiest either. Despite losing the last of his family and having immense debt thrown on him, getting the chance to keep practicing Martial Arts pulled away, and having a completely messed up sleep-schedule, he usually tried his best to stay positive to the outside world. Of course, that wasn't always possible, especially not when he was staring into the glowing eyes of a man-eating creature he had never heard of before. The glowing message-box that accompanied it wasn't much better either. Not to mention the fact that he was suddenly in a dark forest instead of the train station. This isn't a story of great anguish, inescapable peril, or heroic world-saving. Rather, it's one of a young man trying to get by in a world that seems to try his best to kill him. I hope you enjoy the read. --- Cover Image temporary [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

8 171Ghostified City
‘Ghostified City’ is a post-dystopian sci-fi tale, set in a fading world that might be a future version of ours, running out on autopilot into oblivion. Adaman Yimmand is a simple robofactory operator in The City who's working with robots and machines every day. He doesn’t even realise that he might not have met another actual human being in years. Everything begins when he breaks his routine for once and enters a bar where he meets Evelith. This pesky other person does not let him go after he has had his -rather terrible- beer, because according to her actual humans are much rarer than he’s aware of. And from then on ‘the genie is out of the bottle and won’t get back in’, to use her words: Adaman meets more people, and gradually he has no choice but to accept that the reality of The City is not what he always thought it was, and to face the darkness of a fading humanity on the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Is there any hope left for him, and for his species? I have selected 'sexual content' and 'traumatising content' to be on the safe side, because there is a stripclub-like venue in the background of the story, and an almost-extinct humanity that has institutionalised suicide which might be disturbing to some. Apart from that it's not really a heavy 'adult' story.('Ghostified City' is my first long story in English as opposed to my native language Dutch, and an earlier version was published on my fiction blog 'Oranderra' until I stopped updating. This is a slightly altered version of the first series.)
8 80The Underbelly
There's something wrong with Port City. In the aftermath of the Hyde Park massacre, the city increased its police force dramatically, and Wyatt Milter found himself in uniform, with a gun, a badge, and dreams of someday making detective, but with no clue how to actually make it happen. These days a new, ugly kind of violence is rising on the streets. As a bizarre group of characters emerges from Port City's underbelly, Wyatt will be forced into making a difficult decision. Will he remain a cop? Or will he serve a different kind of justice? (Author's Note: I started writing this about 10 years ago and only now got around to the idea of uploading it. As a result, much of this predates the rising popularity of the Green Arrow. I'm uploading as is, but future drafts will make minor alterations to the character to differentiate it.)
