Sophie POV
The bell had rung for us to go to first period. Mrs. Morgan put us into a group of four to work on finding our new vocabulary words. When a new girl walked in and handed Mrs. Morgan her schedule. She had short pretty curly hair, brown eyes, and was wearing skinny jeans with a short sleeve blue top which look cute her. "Class this is Brianna she just move here from Michigan I would like you all to welcome her." The class greeted her hello and Mrs. Morgan put her in me and Charlotte's group. She shyly sat down and Mrs. Morgan walked over to me,"You wouldn't mind her hanging with you and your friends?" "Of course not the more the merrier." She smiled at me,"Thank you." She left and I handed Brianna a dictionary. "Here just look up these words okay? We already have 1-5 you can copy off of mines if you like." I said smiling. I could tell she was shy and took my paper thanking me and began writing. I looked over to Charlotte. "You don't have to be shy around us."said Charlotte. "Thanks."she said smiling and we worked together laughing and talking finding the rest of the vocabs.
Brianna POV
The lunch bell had rung and Charlotte went ahead with Alicia and Emma two very nice girls to the cafeteria while Mrs. Morgan had a chat with me about what they have been doing sense the first day of school and Sophie was really sweet to wait up for me. "You girls can go to lunch now."she said. "Okay lets go Brianna!!"Sophie yelled grabbing a hold to my hand and dragging me out. I laughed at her and we started our not so long walk to the cafeteria. "You can call me Bri for short that's what my old friends for school call me." "Okay...Bri."she smiled.

Sophie POV
I'm glad to see Bri having some fun on her first day here and to see she's warming up to us. After lunch we ran out to the playground with the other girls and boys and was on the swings. "Push!"yelled Bri, Alicia, and I. Emma and Charlotte was pushing us,"Hey its hard pushing three people okay!" They yelled back causing us to laugh. "Bri how was school in Michigan?" Alicia asked. "Fun, but I think I'm going to like it here."she said smiling. "That's good to hear!"yelled Emma and we all laughed at her. After the fun at recess we went back to our class all hyper up and cooled back down when Mrs. Morgan walked in to begin teaching. It wasn't long before the school bell rung. I was getting my things ready. I was always the last one out the room.
Brianna POV
I was walking out the school, but was pushed into the girl's bathroom onto the wall. "What the-" I look up to see it was Calley, Macy, and Britney. I learn their names because I have two of them in my class. "Listen here new girl this is our school and we say who comes and goes."said Britney getting in my face.
Sophie POV
I was on my way out when I heard voices coming from the bathroom so I walked in. I paused and saw Calley and her mean best friends, Macy and Britney. I ran over to them pushing them off and seeing Brianna scared to death on the floor head in her hands crying. "Ugh why can't you leave people alone for once!" "Look at this she's standing up toward us. How dare she."said Macy. I rolled my eyes. "Come on Bri."I said holding out my hands and she took it. I pushed aside the girls exiting the bathroom. "Don't cry they do that to everyone even me. All you have to do is stand up for yourself." "Thanks."she smiled drying her eyes. I smiled,"No problem." We walked out the school building together and she ran towards her dad's car waving me goodbye. I waved back. I walked down the steps and saw my bus leaving closing the doors and driving off. "No!!" I yelled running after it, but stop to catch my breath. "No...."

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
