'Hey muffin, I have something to take care of. I won't be able to make it. I'm so sorry.'

I stare at my phone. I am at the restaurant Xavier told me to meet him at for our date.

He said he would pick me up but I needed to go to Ash's place before this so I told him I'd meet him there.

It's been two weeks since the party and this was also the only day I was free before college starts.

'Everything okay?' I test back. I hope he is okay.

'Yeah. Someone ambushed Jen so I had to go get her.' I ignore the sting. This is serious May.

'Is she okay?' I get up and walk out of the restaurant to my car.

'Yeah. She was just a little scared so I went to pick her up.' Oh okay...

'What exactly happened?' I'm so confused.

'Someone left a threatening note on her car so she called me so I could come get her cause she thought something was wrong with her car.' Again, he could've sent someone else.

'Oh. How far away was she?' I question.

He types then stops, then types again, 'around three hours ago.'

'You couldn't tell me sooner?' THREE HOURS. I have been waiting for an hour so he could've told me a while ago.

'I forgot. I'm sorry. We'll talk when I get back okay?' The past two weeks he has been amazing. We have been having the best time and this was kind of ruining it but it is okay she was in potential danger.

I just like the message and start driving to my apartment.

I clean up a bit because I have been at Xavier's place for two weeks and my apartment looks crazy.

After that, I go back downstairs and to the closest park to just relax.

"Hey Amara," I hear a voice behind me walking up.

I turn and see Cameron, "Oh hey, and it's Amaya by the way."

"I know but I like Amara more," he laughs.

I nod and continue walking with him continuing to follow.

"So, where are you headed?" he asks.

"The park," I mumble.

He hums, "You seem down, you okay?"

"Yeah," I smile slightly.

He eyes me for a second, "You sure?"

My smile drops, "No."

"What's wrong?" he questions as we reach the park.

We settle on a bench and I cross my legs and turn to him.

"I had a date with my boyfriend today because he missed a party that he was supposed to attend with me and he wanted to make up to me," I start, "he missed it because he was with his ex-girlfriend, she was in some kind of car trouble."

He hums so I continue, "so, I was really looking forward to today and I was excited plus it had been two weeks since the party thing so everything was forgotten and good. But he missed the date today too."

"Why?" he gaps.

"The ex-girlfriend thought someone did something to her car cause some warning or something," I huff.

"That's fucked up. He could've sent someone else. Both times," he narrows his eyes.

I shrug, "I know. Also, before that I wanted him to come with me to dress shopping with me and he missed that too because he was hanging out with her."

"What the fuck," he gasps.

I nod, "but maybe she is in some kind of danger."

"That's bullshit," he rolls his eyes, "I know her. She is dramatic."

"You know Jennifer?" I question.

"Everyone knows you are with Xavier Knight, you guys don't exactly hide it, and everyone also knows Jen is his ex," he explains.

"Yeah true," I understand.

"Anyways, just talk to him you know? Get upset but let him explain and don't make decisions at the moment," he advises.

"Okay, thank you," I smile.

"Of course-," he gets cut off when my phone rings.

"Hey love, I'm at your apartment. Where are you?" Xavier asks when I pick up.

"I just went on a walk. I'm on my way," I explain then hang up when I hear him hum.

I turn to Cameron, "I need to leave."

"Okay. before that, could I get your number? I promise I'm just looking for friends nothing weird," he grins.

I laugh and take his phone, putting in my number.

"Alright bye," I wave and walk away when he waves back.

I reach home and find Xavier standing outside my apartment door.

He walks over to me and hugs me but I slightly push him back and unlock my apartment, walking in knowing he'll follow.

I silently sit on the couch and he sits beside me.

After a while, he speaks. "I'm really sorry."

I turn to him and just stare.

"I was worried that Cole would be close by and hurt her I promise I wouldn't have gone if I knew there was nothing but there was a note and Jen was freaking out," he continues.

"I understand that you were worried about her but you could've texted or called or even sent someone else," I reason.

"Seriously? She was in danger and you want a text? I know you are upset about me missing the date but she was in potential danger," He huffs.

I look at him shocked, "you could've sent someone else. You have been so close to her since the café thing, it's like I'm second."

"She was in danger Amaya. And you are the one who told me to be nicer to her and now you are complaining that I am," he gives me a confused look.

"I said to be nicer not forget about me," I point out.

His face softens, "I didn't forget about you."

"You missed three different things because of her, you also said you forgot to text me," I narrow my eyes.

"I promise I didn't mean to, I actually thought she was in danger. I'm sorry I made you think that but I swear I would never forget about you. Ever," he mumbles.

"Just leave. I want to think," I sigh.

"Muffin, I'm so sorry. I would never do anything to hurt you," he frowns.

"You did though," I murmur.

He pulls me closer, "I'm sorry."

I look at him for a moment. She was in danger and expecting a text while all that is going on is dumb.

This time was a serious reason I guess but that doesn't mean the other two times were so after taking a few minutes of thinking.

"I'm glad she is okay," I mumble.

"Fuck that. I don't give a shit about that. I don't ever want you to think I would hurt you on purpose," he points out.

"I know," I smile.

"Good. And also, I was spending more time with her cause she will be here for a while so I wanted to just be somewhat civil but if you want, she is out," he huffs.

"No, someone is after her. You can't just kick her out," I shake my head.

He tilts his head, "actually I can. I am just keeping her there because you told me to and you also made me promise I was going to keep her safe so I went today mostly cause of that."

I know he still cares about her a little but it doesn't bother me.

He looks at me for a moment, "you mean more to me than she ever will."

"I- I think I am falling in love with you," I blurt out.

I move away from him and rush into my room. Oh god, what did I just do?

"Amaya, come back," Xavier laughs.

He walks into my room and to me.

"I don't expect you to say anything back," I whisper.

"I think I am falling in love with you too," he smiles.
