《Rosewood x Station 19》Chapter Two

The whole team was sat in the beanery eating lunch, even Robert, who barely ever joined us for meals. It had been a week since I'd gone over to his house and we'd made up, and we'd been seeing each other ever since. Nobody at work could know though, so we had to keep it a secret. He's battalion chief, I'm a lieutenant, it's against the rules.
I was sat eating, when my phone started to ring. When I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Rosie, I frowned slightly.
"Um, I've got to go and take this," I said and headed out of the room.
"Hi," he said when I picked up the phone.
"Hi, is everything okay?" I asked.
"It's Annalise, she got shot," he said.
"What?! How is she? Is she okay?" I asked, panicking.
"She's in surgery now, I haven't had anymore updates on how she's doing," he said.
"Oh. I'll see if I can get some time off and I'll come to Miami as soon as I can," I said.
"No, we're not in Miami, we're in New York," he said.
"Oh yeah, of course. Annalise told me that the other day, she said it was something to do with Eddie, but she never said what. I'll still try and come," I said.
"You don't have to it's a long way to travel," Rosie said, and I shook my head even though he can't see me.
"Yes, Rosie, I do. I need to be there for her," I said, perhaps a little more harshly than I had meant to.
"Yeah I get that. I'll see you when you get here," he said.
"Yeah, see you, bye," I said. When I hung up, I let my arm drop to my side.

Annalise had been shot. I knew that with her being a homicide detective, it was always a risk, just like it was always a risk that I was going to get injured at a fire, but I never thought it would actually happen.
When Andy came back from taking the phone call, she looked like she had seen a ghost.
"Herrera, is everything okay?" I asked, keeping it profesional so that nobody finds out about us.
"Um... not really... that was Rosie calling," she said, and I thought for a moment.
"Rosie? He's Annalise's partner and her best friend, right?" I asked and she nodded.
"Okay, are we missing something? Who are Rosie and Annalise?" Hughes asked.
"Mutual friends," I lied. "Are they okay? Did something happen?" I asked Andy.
"Annalise... she got shot," she stuttered, and I went over and pulled her into a hug, not caring that everyone was watching.
"Is she okay?" I asked, when we pulled apart.
"I don't know. Rosie said that she's still in surgery," Andy said.
"If you want to go to Miami to be with her, you can take a few days off, however long you need," I told her. I wish I could go with her, but as battalion chief, I'm needed here in Seattle.
"They're in New York, not Miami. Annalise said something about them going there. She said it was to do with Eddie, but that's all I know," Andy said.
"Go, it's okay. Call me if you need anything, or if anything changes with Annalise," I told her, and she smiled at me gratefully before running straight out of the station. I wanted so badly to kiss her goodbye, but I couldn't in front of the whole team, and I didn't want to make her wait any longer to go and see Annalise.

"Chief?" Warren said, snapping me back to reality. I might not be that close to Annalise, but I was still really worried.
"Yes Warren," I said.
"If you don't mind me asking, how did yours and Andy's friend get shot?" He asked.
"Um, I'm not sure exactly. It was probably while she was on the job, she's a homicide detective," I told them.
"Wow that's pretty badass," Hughes said and everyone agreed.
"Right, 19, time to get back to work. Gibson, you'll be lead lieutenant until Herrera gets back," Bishop ordered, and everyone got back to what they were doing.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
