Luke was sitting down and flipping through some magazines with his nose scrunched up when I came back out. When he saw me he immediately stood up, not seeming to notice the stares from the other people in the shop. He smiled and I smiled right back.

"So? Are you going to show me?" he asked, briskly walking up to me, and I shook my head.

"Not here. In the car. I'll pay and then–"

"I'm paying," Luke interrupted, following Craig to the desk.

"What? No, you're not, Luke, seriously," I insisted.

"Yes, I am. How much?" he asked Craig, who answered with, "Fifty dollars." Luke quickly pulled out the right amount of cash and exited the shop with me following after him, still complaining.

"You really didn't have to do that," I grumbled as I got into the car, wincing a little at the movement.

"Sure I did. Now show me the tattoo," Luke commanded.

I grinned and lifted up one side of my shirt, wincing slightly, to show the small snowflake on my ribs. Luke's eyes widened a little at the exposure of skin, then he raised his eyebrows. "A snowflake?"

"Yeah. You kind of inspired me," I said with a shrug. A smile made its way onto his lips.

"You got my new nickname for you tattooed on you," he said a little smugly. "I'm so flattered, snowflake."

"Shut up," I said, letting my shirt drop back down. "It wasn't because of you, you just gave me the idea." I started the car. "Where next on our night of adventures?"

Luke thought for a moment. "The beach?"

"That's like an hour away," I reminded him. "And there will actually be people there, so... I mean, you'd probably get trampled by a load of girls or something."

"Worried about my safety, Noelle? Cute," he said, and I rolled my eyes but didn't reply. "I see your point about the beach, though. Okay, just drive for a little bit. I know where we're going."

I groaned. "Another surprise?"

"Yep. Off you go."

I drove and Luke sifted through my music collection, wrinkling his nose at some things and nodding approvingly at others.

"You going to put something on or are you just going to judge my music?" I said, glancing at him.

"Give me a sec." Luke put something in and turned it up. The sound of Green Day filled the car and Luke sang along loudly while I just laughed at him.

"Are you saying you don't know this song?" Luke exclaimed when I didn't sing along with him.

"Of course I know this song, I'm just enjoying watching you make a fool of yourself," I stated with a shrug.

"When it comes to Green Day, everyone should make a fool of themselves," he remarked as if it was obvious. I laughed again and gave in, singing along too. I didn't care about the people staring at us when we rolled the windows down and sang to the world. I also didn't care when we stopped at traffic lights and a group of girls ran up to the car, taking pictures and screaming, at which point Luke rolled up the window.

"It must get annoying," I commented when we finally left the screaming girls behind.

"What?" Luke questioned, looking over at me.

"The lack of privacy." I watched him carefully but also made sure to keep my eyes on the road.

"Well, yeah. I mean, I guess. This is probably the first time I've been out in public without security or anything in a while," Luke told me, staring out the window as we drove.

I nodded, biting on my lip. I did kind of feel bad for him. I then changed the subject. "Are we close to wherever we're going yet?"

"Yeah. Pull over."

When I'd parked I looked around me, not noticing anything special. "Where are we?"

"Just follow me," Luke said, making his way into a building that looked pretty deserted.

"Isn't this how horror stories start? Going into an abandoned building?" I said, walking closely behind him.

"Are you scared, snowflake?" Luke said in amusement, glancing over his shoulder.

"Not scared, just... concerned," I defended. He laughed and took hold of my hand.

"Better?"

Well, no, because now my heart was beating faster than before. "Uh..."

"You up for walking up a load of stairs?" he asked, interrupting whatever I was going to say.

"Not particularly," I replied.

"Tough. Come on." Luke pulled me up the stairs, me complaining the whole way until we reached a door. He forced it open and called back to me, "Prop it open with something."

I looked around me as I went through the door after him, holding it open. There was a brick on the floor, which I placed against the door to keep it open. Then I went into the direction Luke had gone in to find myself on a roof.

Luke was facing away from me, looking over the city of Los Angeles as the night grew dark. I couldn't help but admire his broad shoulders and lean figure from behind before going to stand next to him and gazing out at all the buildings and lights.

"Wow," I commented appreciatively.

"Nice, huh?" Luke breathed in deeply. "No one knows who I am from up here. If that makes sense."

"It does," I reassured him, walking forwards to the edge and looking down.

"Careful," he said sharply, and I grinned.

"Worried about my safety, Luke?" I said, repeating his earlier words.

"Well, yeah," he remarked. "I wouldn't particularly want you falling to your death."

"Thanks," I said dryly, but leaned back a bit anyway. "You come here a lot?"

"Kind of. I guess it's an escape from everything," Luke told me, coming forwards a bit to stand next to me, his shoulder brushing mine.

"It's amazing," I agreed. "I feel like I'm on top of the world."

"I've discovered this is a great place to shout from," he said casually.

"Shout?" I laughed. "Shout what, exactly?"

Luke shrugged. "Whatever you're feeling. No one can really hear you, so you can shout whatever you want."

"I'm not shouting," I said. "Let's just... relax." I sat down, dangling my feet over the edge.

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Luke said pointedly.

"Just sit down," I said in exasperation, grabbing his hand and pulling him down.

"Fine, I'm sitting." He sat close to me, probably too close, but at this moment in time I didn't really care. This was the first time in a while I'd let myself do something I wouldn't usually do, and it felt good. Up here it was quiet. You couldn't hear the noise of the traffic or the people. It was peaceful, which was why I didn't feel the need to talk. Luke and I just sat there, admiring the view.

My phone ringing interrupted the serenity, the noise blaring out into the quiet. With a sigh I took it out of my pocket to see who was calling. Nathan's name showed up on the screen. I groaned.

"Is Norman seriously calling you right now?" Luke said in annoyance.

"Yeah."

"Don't answer it," he said abruptly. "Please."

I observed him for a moment, and then shrugged. "Fine, but he'll be mad."

"Who cares? You could do better, anyway," Luke stated bluntly, and I hit him lightly, putting my phone back into my pocket.

"Why do you always say stuff like that? You're not supposed to," I chided him.

"Freedom of speech, and all that. Stand up with me." He grabbed my hand and made me get up. "Hold on tightly. I just want to..." Luke stood dangerously close to the edge, gripping my hand firmly and glancing down.

"Luke!" I said, laughing. "Step back–"

"What? Scared I'm going to fall?" he teased.

"Yes," I admitted, taking the advantage that he was holding my hand and pulling him as hard as I could away from the edge. Luke stumbled into me, snickering, keeping hold of my hand before tugging me towards him and letting his lips brush my forehead. My breathing sped up as he looked down at me and tugged on his lip ring with his teeth.

"Stop doing that," I muttered, unable to meet his gaze.

"Doing what?" When I glanced up at him, he was smirking and I pushed him away.

"You know what."

"Please, enlighten me."

I rolled my eyes. "We should head back."

Luke observed me for a moment. "Fine."

He didn't say anything to me as we made our way back to the car. The car journey back to his place was quiet, too, except for when Luke had to give directions. He did mention that the band were living in one apartment together which apparently could get annoying at times. When we arrived at the building Luke got out of my car and began to walk towards the door but I followed after him and grabbed his hand, forcing him to turn around.

"Luke. You've been really quiet," I said quietly, and he glanced at me, sighing slightly.

"I was just thinking," he told me, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking over my shoulder.

"Thinking what?" When Luke didn't reply, I continued tentatively, "Are you mad at me or something?"

Luke laughed and looked down at me. "No, snowflake, I'm not mad at you. I'm just..." He sighed. "Forget it. I'll see you tomorrow."

I nodded and he was about to turn away when suddenly there were some shouts. Luke looked behind me and clenched his jaw. "Crap."

"What?" I turned around to see a few cars driving up and stopping near us. Several men got out. With cameras.

"Just come with me," he said quickly and grabbed my hand, pulling me to the door. He spoke into the buzzer and it beeped, allowing him to push open the door and escape the shouted questions and snapping of pictures from the paparazzi, pulling me behind him. That was going to look bad. Luke didn't say anything until we reached their apartment, and before we went in, he said, "I'm sorry about that."

"Luke, it's fine. I'm more worried for you. How's it going to look when pictures come out of you leading an unknown girl into your apartment?" I raised an eyebrow.

Luke looked away. "Probably bad." Then he smirked at me. "But who cares? Living on the edge, right?"

I smiled a little. "Right."

"So you're probably going to have to stay here a while. You know, until they go away," Luke said.

"Sure. I mean, if that's okay with you and the rest of the band. I don't really want to go back out into that," I responded with a laugh.

"Yeah, it'll be fine with them. I mean, it's definitely fine with me." I rolled my eyes and he grinned before opening the door.

It was pretty quiet when we went into the apartment, which I had to say was not what I had been expecting. They were always so loud at the studio; I assumed they would be the same here. But Michael and Calum were sprawled across the couch playing video-games and Ashton was on his phone. I looked away from them and around the room.

"Nice place," I commented, and all three of the other boys turned round in confusion.

"Noelle? What are you doing here?" Calum asked, pausing the video-game.

"There were paparazzi outside," Luke answered for me, opening the fridge and pulling out a beer. "You want a drink?" he asked me, then gave me a sly smile. "I can make cocktails."

"Oh, Luke, can you make me one too?" Michael called, and Calum agreed.

Luke sighed in exasperation. "No. I was only offering to make Noelle one because she's a guest."

"And we're your band members," Michael pointed out.

"Luke, really, you don't need to make me a cocktail," I insisted.

"You can make me one too," Ashton chipped in.

"Honestly," Luke muttered. Then he glanced at me. "What type of drunk are you, Noelle?"

"What?" I said in surprise. "Why?"

"I'm curious. Ashton's annoyingly happy," Luke told me, and Ashton grinned at me.

"Ashton's annoyingly happy anyway," Calum said, switching off the TV and grabbing a beer for himself.

"Yeah, yeah" Ashton said, chucking a cushion at him.

Michael snickered, then said, "Calum gets super sentimental. He becomes pretty deep, too."

"Either that or he gets pissed off really easily," Luke added and Calum rolled his eyes.

"Michael tries to take off all his clothes," Ashton said with a giggle.

"He does that sober," Calum muttered.

"And Luke?" I questioned, glancing at him. He just chugged back his beer.

"Luke is really flirty and lovey-dovey. The most annoying of us all," Michael announced.

Luke just shrugged and looked over at me. "Your turn, Noelle."

I bit my lip. "Uh...from what I've heard, I'm one of those ditzy kind of drunks. I do a lot of stuff I shouldn't, too. You know, living on the edge and all." I smirked at Luke who smirked right back.

"I want to see that." Luke opened the fridge back up. "Let's play a drinking game."

"Uh, no, Luke, I have to drive back," I reminded him, folding my arms.

"Stay overnight," Calum suggested. "We have a spare room. And we quite like you, Noelle. Luke especially."

"Does he now?" I shot a look at Luke, who winked at me.

"You may as well, though," Luke agreed. I thought about it for a moment, examining Luke, who mouthed, living on the edge. I shook my head to myself but gave in.

"Fine. I just have to let my friends know." I didn't want to have to talk to them so I texted Nathan and the others, just saying I was staying at a friend's. Then I put my phone away and said, "What are we playing?"
