"You ready?" Mal asks as we wait in the locker room.
"Not even remotely ready." I say then I stand outside the locker room. "LET'S GO GIRLS."
As the girls file out of the locker room they all hug me which causes me to choke back tears.
"Ah fuck." I mumble and wipe my eyes after I've hugged everyone. "How am I gonna get through today."
Once I've fixed myself up I walk out onto the pitch and stand on the sideline.
"Astrid your on." Someone says so I walk onto the field and stand next to the shadowbox with my commemorative jersey.
I'm retiring from managing the national team today after winning the 2023 World Cup, the 2024 Olympics, the 2027 World Cup, and the 2028 Olympics.
"PLEASE STAND AND HELP US CELEBRATE THE WINNINGEST COACH IN US WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM."
"MAMA." Kasey and Ingrid yell as they run at me.
"There's my favorite 6 year olds." I say with a smile as I squat to the ground.
A few seconds later my daughters run into my arms and I hug them both.
"I missed you guys." I say then I kiss their heads.
"Mama why your jersey say 170?" Kasey asks and points to the jersey in the shadow box.
"That's how many games I managed."
"Oh."
"Hold on girls." I say then my Daughter's cling onto my shirt
Once my girls are secure in my arm I stand us up then we wait for my family to walk to us.
"Hi Beautiful." Tobin says and pecks my lips.
"Hi Boo Bear." I say then I hug my family
"Are you really the winningest coach?" Kelley asks as I hug her
"Yeah." I say. "I have 152 wins 14 draws and 3 losses."

"Well Dang." Kelley says.
Once I've hugged everyone we take a shit ton of pictures then my family leaves as I sit in my seat.
The game begins soon after that, but it whizzes by me and in the end, on my 170th game in charge, we win 3-0 over Brazil.
Once the game ends I say one final goodbye to the fans then I head into the press room. After the press conference is over I head to my office, have a bit of a cry, gather my stuff, then get on to the bus. The bus then takes us back to the hotel and once their we all head to the meeting room where US Soccer is holding a party for me.
"MAMA." My girls shout then they attack my legs.
"Hi babies." I say then the twins see their favorite aunt.
"Tag you're it." Ingrid says and touches Mal's leg.
"Oh I'm gonna get you two." Mal says then she chases my daughter's.
"Hey Toby." I say and kiss my wife.
"Hey Beautiful." Tobin says.
Tobin and I get some food and drinks then we head to one of the couches and relax.
"It's nice to see Kelley happy again." My wife says as we watch my twin and her wife feed their twin boy and girl a bottle. "Especially with what happened after they moved up to Portland."
*Flashback*
"It's so nice out." Tobin says as we push our daughter's in a stroller to the park.
"It really is." I say.
All of the sudden we hear tires screeching so I turn around and see a car coming right for us.
"WATCH OUT." I shout
Tobin immediately stops and pushes the stroller up onto the sidewalk as the car comes screeching to a halt. I rush to the drivers side and rip open the door.

"WHAT THE...Kelley?" I say then look back at my wife utterly confused.
"Hey Look who it is." Kelley says and giggles.
"Are you fucking serious Kelley?" I seethe. "You're driving while drunk."
"So?" Kelley says. "I'm not that drunk."
"Kelley you almost hit the twins."
"What?" Kelley says.
"You're lucky I don't beat the shit out of you."
Before Kelley can do anything else stupid I reach into the car and turn it off then hand the keys to Tobin.
"Hope's on the way." Tobin whispers.
"Okay." I whisper then head back to my twin. "Kelley what's going on?"
"I can't have kids." Kelley sadly says
"Oh Kelloggs." I say and bring my sister into my arms then she immediately breaks down. "I'm so sorry."
"It's not fair." Kelley sobs into my chest.
"I know Kelley."
As I'm letting my twin get her emotions out I see Hope walking up to us.
They live in the same neighborhood as us.
They moved up here to Portland because Tobin got a job coaching the thorns and Kelley is in her coaching staff.
Tobin walks the twins over to Hope letting me and Kelley be alone for a moment.
"I know it sucks Kels." I say as I run my fingers through her hair. "But drinking isn't gonna solve anything...trust me."
"I just wanted kids so bad."
"I know Kels, but there are so many different options for you and Hope to have kids." I say.
"WHY." Kelley shouts.
"It'll be okay Kelloggs." I say and run my fingers through my twins hair. "It'll be okay."
*End of Flashback*
"Yeah." I say then Tobin rests her chin on my shoulder.
"Still happy you accepted that call up back in 2019?"
"Of course I am. I got to win three world cups, three olympics, meet new friends, reconnect with my twin, and I have two beautiful baby girls." I say then I kiss my wife.
I tilt Tobin's chin so she's looking at me.
"And most importantly I got to meet the love of my life." I say.
"And who would that be?" Tobin questions.
"You silly." I say then kiss my wife's nose causing her to giggle.
Tobin and I stare into each other's eyes for a while then I bring my wife into my arms.
As Tobin and I hug I think about everything I've been through in my life.
"What are you thinking about?" Tobin asks.
"The past 40 years." I admit.
"Would you do it again?"
"If it meant meeting you again...Absolutely."
"What about us." Our daughter's say as they hug our legs.
"Especially if it meant meeting you." I say then Tobin and I pick up our girls.
"Mama?" Ingrid says.
"Yes baby?" I ask.
"How did you meet Mommy?"
"Well..."

8 2348Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
