《COTE: YEAR 2 REACTION》Chapter 5: Back Alley Brawl

"Before we begin, I should let you know that the tapes we've viewed so far were green-rated."
Mashima-sensei explained at the beginning that the tapes will have two categories of ratings; green and red. Apparently the former is family friendly whilst the latter contains immoral and obscene content. There was even a sticker that came attached with each tape indicating so.
Although I didn't know how Hosen's expletives and unique choice of insults counted as viewer-friendly.
"The next video is a red-rated one meaning it contains graphic episodes of violence and sensitive information. If any student here is predisposed to such effects, I propose that you opt for the private viewing room on the first floor."
Seeing the bewildered looks of their faces, Mashima-sensei sighed before continuing.
"Assuming the pattern here, this video would likely involve Ayanokouji-kun. What about you?"
"Thank you for the offer Mashima-sensei but I'm fine."
"Damn, no hesitation. I'd probably wanna hide in a hole if my thoughts were openly shown like this..." A second year whispered.
"Duh, it's so embarrassing. That kouhai is taking it like a champ."
"I wanna be like Ayanokouji fr."
"Already getting chummy with not one but two cute kouhais, Ayanokouji!" Ike grunted.
Sudou whacked the boy's head. "Stop thinking with your dick all the time. He's doing it so all of us can safely clear this exam. Be grateful!"
One of the biggest yet historic duels to take place in this country. Miyamoto Musashi, wishing to put the notion of who is the best swordsman, arranged a duel with Sakaki Kojiro on 13th April 1612. As part of a strategy to psychologically unnerve Kojiro's inner state of being, Musashi arrived three hours late. When he finally appeared, Kojiro, who was full of rage and extremely irritated, lost before the fight had even begun.

"Eh, I got none of that... Although Ayanokouji seems to know alot about useless trivia." Mori scratched her head.
Sotomura grasped his chest upon hearing Mori brush aside the Vagabond reference as useless. The other guys too, who felt similar to him, shook their heads in disapproval.
"Shut thine trap, uncultured swine! Thou shan't comprehend thy scriptures of god."
"Only two weeks and he has the whole class under his thumb? Wow, he moves fast."
"It sucks for the first years that they don't get a free one month of no one tellin' them what to do."
"Damn! The disrespect! I'll hand it to Hosen-kun, he's got balls bigger than steel to do that to Horikita-san!"
The other students found Hosen's faux behaviour humorous and continued to laugh whilst the members of my class seemed angered by the lack of respect their leader, Horikita, was receiving.
"Isn't he in the same boat as you guys. I can't imagine their Class-D has too many students with an impressive academic score in the first place." Katsuragi seemed sceptical of Hosen's interpretation of equality.
Ryuen chuckled. "Baldy, did you lose a few brain cells along with your hair? Didn't you hear Notice-Me-senpai say that expulsion applies to only second years?"
"Regardless of the severity of penalties they face, the fact is that a 5% penalty to score could make or break the chances of a failure even more so for a Class-D student. I'm sure as a leader Hosen-kun won't be too keen to lose out on private points for 3 months as well. In the long run, that'd be a big setback in class competitions."
Katsuragi saw this as a perfect chance for Hosen to cooperate with Class-D and ensure minimal losses.
"Kuku, it's because of your spineless attitude that you got booted off the leadership group, Katsuragi! This is a chance for the first year kiddies to trample their senpais. We're the ones desperate to avoid expulsion, not them. And 3 months of no private points, fuck that! If they play their cards right, you're looking at millionaires overnight."

The notion that points were required to establish relationships had probably spread throughout the student mindset. It was best to assume that the first-year student body as a whole knew about the system of exchanging private points. Ryuen saw this as the perfect opportunity to extort a point deal akin to the one he made with Katsuragi during the first special exam.
Also with large-scale buy-out tactics taking centre stage, the first years were forced to acknowledge that providing services without compensation would be equivalent to taking a loss.
Ichinose unintentionally sneezed at that.
Horikita sighed. "Why am I not surprised that you've gone and done something behind my back yet again?"
"You're welcome."
"Now that you mention it, I forgot about Protection points. Who has them in our year?"
"Ayanokouji-kun and Ichinose-san lost theirs in the final exam. Since Class-A and Class-C won, Sakayanagi-san and Kaneda-kun have one each."
Horikita and Nanase had gone through the effort of laying out all of the groundwork to get him to agree. And yet, Hosen turned the two of them down without even pretending to think about it.
"Does this guy even want to cooperate in the first place?" Shinohara dubiously asked.
Machida muttered. "That's not a bad deal."
"For a Class-A student who gets over 100,000 Private points every month, that offer may seem cheap but it's a different case considering Class-D." Katsuragi replied.
Machida sneered. "You're right. I forgot Class-D lives by the scrap. Can they even afford this in the first place..." He drew his voice on purpose and spoke rather loudly, enraging a few of our volatile classmates.
"Kuku."
"Look, look Ryuen-san! Ayanokouji-san is praising you!"
"Shut up, Ishizaki!"
"Heh! The bastard ain't praising you, he's saying you're on the same level as the gorilla." Ibuki looked amused.

The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back. Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
