《Rough Waves》Chapter 28

A few days later and I decide it's time to go back to school, mum is driving me nuts!
She was a bit reluctant, but I really am fine and a bit of sweet-talking from my new boyfriend (who mothers seem to adore for some strange reason) and she finally agreed.
I'm still hobbling around like a one-legged Pirate on crutches but at least I'm finally out of the house. Looking at those four walls all day, every day was totally doing my head in!
Everyone has been really nice and helpful all morning, that is until the start of lunch when I see Emily with Skylar's arm around her. They spot me looking at them, he gives me a disgusting smirk and she gives me a look of pure hatred. She heads into the girls' toilets and I can't seem to stop myself from following her in. What am I thinking?
She turns to look at me and rolls her eyes.
"What do you want? Stealing my boyfriend not enough for you? You come to gloat as well?"
As I'm standing there trying to figure out what I want to say, I take a moment and notice she looks different. She has dark circles under her eyes, her hair which is usually shiny and perfect looking is now dull and lifeless. She also looks thinner.
I don't hate her, in fact, I kind of feel sorry for her. She's gone from being one of the most envied girls at school to the total opposite! I mean, she tried to blackmail Hunter into staying with her, how desperate do you have to be to do something as awful as that?
"I'm sorry ok, I didn't mean for any of this to happen. Believe it or not, I actually did like you, I didn't like you dating my best friend but I thought you were pretty cool after I got to know you. I'm sure if things had been different we could've been good friends."
"No thanks!" She spits out.
"Why Skylar though? He's only after one thing you know," I blurt out before I can stop myself.
"What, so now you care? You know this is all your fault, right?"
"Let's agree to disagree on that one, I never forced you to lie and cheat! And let's not forget the blackmail!" I remind her.
"What ev's, its none of your business anyway, so if you don't mind.." She says as she turns into the toilet stall.

I'm still standing there as she comes back out, I don't know why but I feel like I should try and help her. Maybe it's the guilt I feel about how everything turned out. It's not all my fault but I do take part of the blame.
I really do believe she cared a lot about Hunter, I just don't know why she did the things she did to him.
"Great, you're still here. Do I need to threaten you too to get you to go away? Cause I assure you I have no problem with that."
"Can I just ask you one thing?" I say, trying to get some clarity on this whole situation.
"Is me telling you to fuck off even going to stop you?"
I ignore her and ask anyway.
"Why did you cheat on Hunter? And with Skylar of all people."
Man, if looks could kill, I'd be gasping for breath on the floor right now. I think she's about to tell me to fuck off again, but instead, she sighs and answers my question.
"After Hunter told me he kissed you I knew I'd lost him. He'd been weird after you fucked up all our lives by telling him you were in love with him. You know he was the one who cheated on me first by kissing you. I hooked up with Skylar when we were broken up but when we got back together and he was still distant I thought, stuff it! he'll probably bugger off again anyway."
"Why didn't you just break up with him then if you knew he wasn't invested anymore?" I ask confused.
"Because I loved him you stupid cow! I was the one who broke it off in the first place and it hurt so bad, he was the best thing that had happened to me in a long time. I knew he didn't want me anymore but I was too selfish to let him go, why do think I went so far as to blackmail him?"
"But why Skylar?"
"Because he was with you, duh! I wanted to hurt you, but then I found out what type of person he really was so we decided to have a bit of fun on the side as well. He's not as good as Hunter in the sack, but he'll do I guess," she says clearly trying to wound me.
I do my best to ignore that last, disgusting comment, I've already been struggling with the thought of them together like that and I've been trying so hard not to think about it!

"What about Tiffany?" I ask wanting to change the subject.
"Who?"
"The other girl he cheated on me with," I say getting a little annoyed.
"Oh, yeah she's long gone," she says with a shrug.
OMG, these people are unbelievable!
"Look, I know there's no love lost between us but Skylar's a pig, don't degrade yourself like that. Don't sink to his level; it's not worth it and you'll regret it in the end!"
"At least I know what I'm getting with him, I'm just having some fun, my rebound if you will. That and he gives me free weed. Maybe you should worry more about Sienna and Rick. Now there's a two-faced prick if ever I've met one!"
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask.
"He's just as bad, if not worse than Skylar and oh so innocent Sienna wouldn't have a clue how to handle someone like him. It's quite funny really if you think about it; I couldn't think of a worse pairing, except for you and Hunter of course!"
"What happened to you? How on earth did you go from being so lovely and sweet to this?" I say gesturing with my hands.
"I've always been like this! When I moved here and met Hunter I tried to be more like you guys. But you know what? It's a lot easier to not give a shit!"
"I don't believe that for a second," I say shaking my head, no way she's that good of an actress!
"Believe what you want, I really couldn't care less!"
"Fine, but I just want to say one last thing then we don't have to speak to each other ever again. I know your mum's away with work a lot and you're not very close to your dad but...."
She opens her mouth to say something but I put up my hand to stop her.
"Just hear me out."
She stays quiet and I carry on.
"If you ever feel like you need to talk, my mum is a really good listener and gives the best advice. I know it's probably the last thing you want to do, but the offers there," I say.
She gives me the finger and walks back out of the toilets, but not before I notice her watery eyes. Well, I tried. I apologised and I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my chest, what she does with my offer is up to her. I don't want or expect anything from her, so I decide it's time to let it all go.
I leave the toilets as well to go in search of my friends, I see Emily walking away with Skylar and his hand is rubbing her butt. I throw up a little bit in my mouth before a familiar pair of arms wrap themselves around me tight.
"Hey beautiful," he whispers in my ear.
A shiver travels down my body, a girl could get used to this. I turn in his arms and he gives me a lingering kiss.
"Was that Emily that came out of there just before you?" He asks pointing to the toilet block.
"Uh-huh," I say nodding with wide eyes.
"What did she do?" He asks looking worried.
"Nothing," I say with a laugh.
"I was actually the one who followed her in there."
"What.....Why?"
"I just felt like I needed to clear the air. We had a good chat...I think, but I feel better now anyway. I felt sorry for her and I wanted to apologise for how everything turned out. She really did love you, you know? Despite everything that happened."
He looks at me with sad eyes.
"Yeah, I know but it just wasn't meant to be. I just wish she'd tell Skylar where to go, he's so foul!"
"Tell me bout it!" I say, the events of the last few weeks still fresh in my mind.
He notices my faraway look and squeezes me to him then kisses my forehead.
"If he ever comes near you I wanna know, ok? I'll break every bone in his skinny little body if he so much as looks at you funny."
"Woah, calm down soldier! He hasn't been anywhere near me since the incident 'that shall not be named' happened. Plus, he wouldn't dare when he knows I have you to protect me," I say squeezing his beautifully sculpted arms.
"True that!" He says with a sexy smirk.
We smile at each other and the rest of the world blurs into the background. I could get lost in that gorgeous smile of his for days, but then I remember something.
"Have you seen Sienna?"

"Pick them up and arrange them the way they're supposed to."With trembling hands, I did what he asked quickly. He had no clue who I am which made me resent it even more.He scowled as he watched me made mistakes after mistakes and after a while, he grew frustrated and bent over, picking the books himself."Forgive me, I didn't mean to snarl at you the way I did. I'm not used to being distracted. No one ever walks in my office unless they have my permission. I don't even know how the guardsmen let you in." I wanted to say because unlike you, they recognized who I am. But I kept my mouth shut in fear of aggravating his anger. His voice took a lot gentler tone, I imagined he must've realized how upset I was and felt bad about it.I said nothing. When we're done, I rose up to my feet, couldn't wait to get out of this room. This man was so impolite to me that I couldn't wait to get away from him."I apologize, your highness. I didn't mean to distract you in your private office." I stepped back getting ready to leave when a sliver of sunlight struck highlighting my face. "Wait!" He murmured and I turned back to look at him."You're beautiful." He said breathlessly.I would have blushed, but he was so mean and rude to me that his compliment lost its impact long ago."I need to go," I told him."Wait." A wave of panic rose in the tide of his voice. The prince was afraid to lose me. "What's your name, girl?" He asked quickly. "Jasmine, my name is Jasmine, your highness.""My Jasmine?" He murmured hopeful.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping
This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.
