《Just Steve》E I G H T E E N

"Sup, loser."

The door to Peter's room at the tower burst open as (Y/N) waltzed in. Peter jumped slightly, taken aback by her sudden appearance, then rolled his eyes. Ever since he had gotten his powers, Peter could sense things before they happened. He didn't really know how to explain it to other people, it was just a feeling that he got sometimes. This sixth-sense, or as his Aunt called it his 'Peter Tingle', made it nearly impossible to catch him off-guard. Yet somehow, (Y/N) always managed to surprise him. Probably because she was always doing things he didn't understand. The little weirdo.

"You missed quite the party last night", she said as she walked over to the bean bag chair she had long since claimed as her own.

Peter rubbed his eyes, stifling a yawn. He had stayed up late last night finishing the report he had forgotten about, submitting it online just at the last minute. He sat up on his bed, checking his watch for the time to see it was half past ten. He narrowed his eyes at the girl across from him in confusion. (Y/N) was not a morning person. In fact, he usually had to drag her lazy ass out of bed by noon so that he would have someone to hang out with. So why was she all of a sudden so peppy and...happy?

"Why are you in such a good mood?" he questioned, but she just smiled back at him mischievously, and shrugged her shoulders.

"Oh god... you did something slutty didn't you?"

(Y/N) quickly grabbed her slipper from her foot, throwing it across the room at Peter's face but he caught it easily.

"I'm gonna take that as a yes?" he laughed, tossing it back to her.

"Nothing slutty... it was just a kiss," she said, fiddling with the fuzzy slipper in her hand, as if waiting for Peter to say something that would make her want to throw it at him with more force a second time.

Peter jumped up excitedly, grinning widely, looking like a little kid on Christmas morning. He had been wanting Steve and (Y/N) to get together for so long now, and he was so sure that she was about to confirm that they finally got together.

"I also had the pleasure of meeting Sharon," she added, rolling her eyes.

"Oh shit...", Peter's smile faltered slightly, growing more concerned.

If he knew Tony had invited Sharon to the party he would never have let (Y/N) go alone. He'd only met her a few times, but he knew enough from those few interactions that if Steve brought another girl around that she would cause drama for no reason.

"Yep", she replied, nodding her head up and down and pursing her lips.

"She called me a liar. Said all this shit about how Steve isn't the father, that I'm just using him, and that all of Steve's friends thought so too."

Peter moved to the edge of the bed so he was closer to where (Y/N) was sitting.

"(Y/N) you know none of that's true right?" he asked, worriedly. Before she could even answer he began to rant anxiously.

"I don't know what Steve told you about her but she definitely doesn't speak for everyone at that party. I trust you. And I know Steve trusts you and that should be enough. I mean that's enough right? Don't let a stupid, jealous, agent-whatever get in the way of you being happy."

He finished his rant, trying to catch his breath but he was still nervous. (Y/N) had made so much progress in the last few weeks. Her walls had been coming down and for the first time it was not just because Peter and Steve wanted to knock them down, but because she wanted to. Because she was tired of being alone, and not letting anybody in. But as much progress as she had made he knew she wasn't fully a hundred percent there yet. He was terrified something like this might send her running for the hills and then she'd shut herself off from people for good. And she was too great of a person to do that.

"Relax Peter, I don't scare that easy," she said jokingly, trying to get him to calm down

He felt a rush of relief, realizing Sharon hadn't completely scared her off. He raised an eyebrow, looking at her knowingly and she laughed waving her hands in defeat.

"Okay, okay, so I totally scare easy, but can you blame me? Look what kind of crap people there are in the world!" she reasoned.

"Yea well Sharon probably takes the cake in that department," Peter joked as (Y/N) nodded her head in agreement.

"I swear I was about to beat her sorry ass but Steve stopped me before I could," she said, surprising him again. She didn't seem like a particularly violent person. Maybe it was all the time she had been spending around superheroes and fighters.

"So what happened then?" he asked, remembering she hadn't actually confirmed that it was Steve she had kissed.

Peter and (Y/N) continued to talk for a while, (Y/N) explaining how Steve had pulled her away while Peter listened closely. As you went into detail about how the argument had somehow led to a very passionate kiss, your thoughts drifted to what had happened earlier that morning.

After the kiss, Steve had asked if you wanted to go somewhere quieter and more private. You followed him to his room, chucking off your heels, grabbing one of his sweatshirts and changing out of the dress, glad to be in something more comfortable. When you had finished you noticed he had changed out of his party clothes as well. He sat on his bed with his back against the headboard in light grey sweatpants and a navy blue t-shirt. His arms opened wide and you were quick to run into them, laying your head on chest as he wrapped you in a tight hug, brushing the hair that had fallen towards your face so he could kiss your forehead gently.

The last few hours had been so draining. Socializing at the party, to the argument with that blonde twat, to finally admitting your feelings to the man you had tried so hard to not fall for. You were exhausted and on edge at the same time, but laying in Steve's arms you felt almost instantly relaxed. You were worried it might have been weird being back in his bed since the last time you had spent the night there was for a heart-broken and drunken one night stand. But it didn't feel weird at all. It just felt right. Like this is where you had always been meant to end up. While that thought still slightly terrified you, you had decided to just go with it.

You spent the rest of the night talking with Steve about whatever crossed your mind. Nothing serious, just your random thoughts, like baby names, your least favorite teacher, or how you couldn't get Sam's song parodies out of your head hours later. You stayed there just enjoying each other's company, playing with his hair, occasionally sharing a soft kiss. This time you being in his bed meant more than just two strangers who had clicked at a bar. It was two people who had found their way back to each other. The last time had felt rushed and urgent, because you knew then the moment would be over in the morning. This time felt equally intimate but incredibly peaceful because both of you knew this would not be the last evening you would spend together.

In the morning, Steve had another one of those strange, clandestine meetings with Tony. He looked a little annoyed or maybe he just felt guilty that he had to leave you behind in bed for work. But he had very sweetly kissed your nose, and informed you that he would be taking you out on a real date later that evening.

"Uhh, hello? Earth to (Y/N)?" you heard Peter call out, while he snapped his fingers in you line of sight.

"I'm sorry, what?" you said, shaking your head lightly trying to rid your brain of the Steve-induced fog.

"I was just saying I've got to run to campus. I have a meeting with my advisor, then I told Tony I would patrol for him tonight so I probably won't see you until tomorrow," he said, hopping off the bed and heading over to the bean bag chair where you were sitting. He reached out his hand and you took it, letting him easily pull you up from your spot. When you were fully up and facing him you noticed him smirking at something behind you. You turned to see that the imprint of your very pregnant butt was clearly visible on the bean bag chair. Kicking the chair slightly so it turned back into a blob, you turned back to face Peter poking him in the stomach. Boys.

"Alright alright, have fun on your date, don't do anything stupid," Peter teased pointing a finger at you.

"Never do," you smiled.

"Except get accidentally pregnant, you moron", he retorted, grabbing his backpack and shoving in a few things carelessly.

As he reached for the door he called back to you, "Bye Mrs. Rogers! Bye Baby Rogers!"

You laughed as the boy left, eventually following him out the door and turning the opposite direction to head to your room. It was still early but you were exhausted from the night before, and that giant cozy bed of yours was just dying for someone to take a nap in it.

The idea of going out on a date with Steve both excited and terrified you. He was the father of your baby so the stakes were pretty high. You'd be lying if you said you didn't have any doubts. The feelings for Steve were there and strong, but lingering thoughts of your last relationship were hard to shake completely. For the first time, your hope that you and Steve could turn into something amazing outweighed the consequences. That maybe you could share a bond stronger than the man himself. Maybe this time people wouldn't let you down. Maybe this time could be your forever.
