《She-Wolf》A Credible Threat

Parrish says every night he believes he leaves his home. When he wakes each morning there are burned and bloodied clothes but he has no memory of where he goes. Saying he needs to know if he is adding to the body count, he enlists the aid of Argent, Scott and Stiles to follow him to find out and stop him if necessary.

Scott, Liam, and Stiles are driving down a dark road in Stiles' Jeep when Scott gets the text message from Argent, and it's clear by his lack of surprise that the three knew this was coming.

"He's headed to the school" Scott announces.

"Why's Parrish headed to the school?" Liam asks confused.

"It's not Parrish... At least, not right now" Scott points out.

"Okay, why's a Hellhound going to the school?" Liam asks again and then seems to realise something.

"'Cause he's got a yearning for higher education?" Stiles says sarcastically and then he seems Liam's look. "Oh no, what is it?"

"Selene is at the school" Liam says.

"She- Why?" Stiles asks.

"I don't know! Liz told me she, Brett and Elias were going to the school tonight" Liam explains. Scott and Stiles look at each other before Stiles presses down the gas pedal as they speed toward the high school<>.

<>Argent has just arrived at the front of the school, where he's walking up the stone steps leading to the entrance. He stops at the sight of a burning banner for the charity lacrosse game still smouldering on the steps in front of him, and his entire body tenses as he slowly makes his way up toward the school, his senses all on high alert.

Moments later, the boys arrive at the school in the Jeep, where they all pile out into the parking lot and walk toward the school as well. Since Liam was in the backseat, he's the last one out, and he accidentally slams the door closed too hard, startling the others with the loud banging noise it creates. Scott and Stiles turn back to look at Liam-- Scott simply looks exasperated, while Stiles is giving Liam a dirty look as if to say, "No hurting the Jeep!" Liam looks embarrassed and makes a face.

"Sorry" He whispers.

The boys walk toward the school under the catwalk, where they eventually find Argent walking toward them, his gun in hand at his side. Argent looks around anxiously as the boys rush toward him to see what is going on.

"Where's Parrish?" Scott asks.

"I lost him. He's moving too fast" Argent replies with a sigh. Scott and Stiles look disappointed by this remark, and Liam, who looks uncomfortable, looks around. His eyes widen in alarm when he sees something in the distance under the catwalk."Scott...? That guy's not moving at all..." Liam points out.

All the men turn to see what Liam is looking at and find that a man's body is laying in a puddle of blood several meters away under the catwalk. Argent, Scott, and Liam all reflexively start to walk toward it, but Stiles grabs Scott by the elbow and makes a face as if to say, "Are you kidding me?" Scott jerks his head toward the body as he looks at his best friend, and Stiles reluctantly follows after them. When they finally make it to the body, they all look horrified when they see that the victim's chest and abdomen has been completely torn to shreds by large claws.

"We gotta find Selene and Brett. Fast" Scott says.

"Selene and Brett? They're here?" Argent asks. Scott simply nods.

Looking slightly ill, the men slowly step around the large puddle of blood to follow the carnage out from under the catwalk, where they find another body laying several meters away, near the bus bay, that has been just as badly mauled as the first. As they move closer, Liam notices that the bus next to the body has opened back doors that reveal dozens of mauled people inside, and he jerks his head toward the bus as well.

"Look" Liam tries to get their attention to the bus.

Argent, Scott, and Stiles squint and look equally horrified when they see just how many people were brutally ripped to shreds and sprawled across the floor and hanging over the seats. To all of their surprise, one of the people in the bus, a young blond man, is still alive, and coughs before reaching out toward them as he weakly pleads for help.

"Help... me..." The guy begs.

Suddenly a growl gets everyone's attention. Selene is standing there, covered in blood, some hers and some not. She walks forward. However, she's stopped in her tracks by the appearance of Parrish, whose eyes are glowing with fire, his fangs and claws out, and the veins of what looks like magma crackling through the soot-covered skin on his chest and back, making it obvious that the Hellhound is currently in charge. The Hellhound's voice has a very deep undertone as he speaks.

"It's a trap." The Hellhound explains. Selene growls again. The victim continues to plead with them.

"I don't care" Selene says and runs towards the bus. Quickly the Beast's glowing blue eyes become visible. Selene roars and uses her speed of the run to her advantage. The Beast quickly turns around and runs away after Selene's hit. The Hellhound immediately goes after it.

"Go!" Selene yells and the three men run after Parrish.

"Please..." The half-dead guy pleads.

"Shh, you'll be fine" Selene takes away some of his pain. "Can you walk?" He shakes his head. "Okay, try to calm down, okay? Help is on its way" The guy nods and Selene focuses her hearing. She can hear another heartbeat. "Wait here" She starts to search and finds a woman, who hid under one of the dead bodies.

"Help..."

"Shh, I'm here. More help is on its way. Just try to stay calm. Everything's gonna be okay" Selene tries to calm the woman.

"What was that?" The woman chokes out. Selene debates whether or not to tell her.

"Not human" She simply answers.

Malia is at the McCall house hiding from the Desert Wolf with Braeden. Malia doesn't think they have much to worry about since her mother has to wait for a full moon to kill her if she wants to steal her power back. Mellisa says her new rule is "never be too careful" so she spreads Mountain Ash along the door way to seal the house against supernatural threats.

Scott and Kira make out at Kira's house. They discuss the upcoming Charity Lacrosse Game. Kira says she is out of practice and they will likely lose. Scott says they won't. The next morning, Kira wakes first and picks up her sword. As she goes through her moves, her eyes glow orange. Scott watches from his place in her bed.

Corey is leaving town. Mason tries to talk him out of it. Corey shows what remains of the burns he got from Parrish saying the injuries represent life in Beacon Hills. Mason points out that they are healing, albeit slowly. He says Corey has power, can turn invisible, is strong and fast. He says people like him need people like Corey to protect them. Corey says Mason is too smart to need anyone and that it's the smart ones who always survive.

Mason is confident that Scott and Selene will have a plan. He relates the story from "a couple of weeks ago" when Scott brought in cellphone jammers to block the frequencies of the Dread Doctors. This gives him and idea. He realizes that the appearances of the Beast to date have been connected to frequencies, the cell transmission towers, the attack downtown near the Radio Astronomy Observatory and the attack on Deaton at the Army Base with huge radar arrays. He speculates that the Dread Doctors are broadcasting a high frequency transmission. Mason realizes that the charity lacrosse game will attract 2, possibly 3, local TV stations with microwave transmission vans. Corey realizes that means the Beast could be there and Mason believes a lot of people are going to die.

Corey follows Mason's line of sight and finally sees what he's talking about-- a van for a news broadcasting channel has arrived at the school, equipped with a satellite dish on top. A news broadcaster and several camera men who drove there in the van have gathered around to interview Brett, who is dressed in his Devenford Prep school uniform and is looking pretty smug as he's being filmed, and Selene.

"While tonight's game is a charity event, we hear Devenford Prep and Beacon Hills have a long-standing rivalry" The journalist says. Both Selene and Brett chuckle.

"Devenford always plays to win, but especially when it's for charity" Brett explains.

"And especially when 100% of the proceeds go to the winning team, isn't that right?" The journalist asks.

"Which is why we'll be 100% kicking Devenford's ass!" Selene says. The interviewer turns to face the camera to finish up her segment."Tickets still available for purchase. This is Kathleen Cassidy for KQNB" The journalist finishes.

"I can't believe we're busy with this game while people are dying out there" Brett whispers and Selene nods in agreement.

"Brett, I've been thinking after last night... every time the Beast you know suddenly showed up after just transforming, the cell transmission towers, the attack downtown near the Radio Astronomy Observatory and the attack at the Army Base which huge radar arrays-"

"You don't think?"

"I do. Think about it. They're all connected to frequency and knowing the Dread Doctors-"

"That makes sense. We gotta tell the others"

Back at the front of the school, Mason looks at Corey with an alarmed expression.

"The local news always covers the game. There could be two, maybe three vans-- all of them transmitting"

"Are you saying that thing's going to be out there tonight?"

"What thing?" Selene asks.

"The Beast. I think I figured it out it's-" Mason starts.

"Frequency. Yeah I just realised it too" Selene cuts him off and sighs. "If it's gonna be out there tonight... A lot of people are going to die"

Scott, Stiles, Lydia, Brett, Selene and Liam are sitting at a table in the library, where they're discussing what they've just learned between their encounter with the Beast and the Hellhound the previous night and what Mason has discovered about the frequencies.

"It's not just to transmit frequency. It's high-powered-- like, it has to be a really strong signal" Selene explains.

"And that's causing it to shift?" Lydia asks. Scott shakes his head and interjects.

"No, I don't think it's just that. Last night, Argent said that it's getting smarter. What if the Dread Doctors are trying to make the Beast grow faster?" Scott asks and Selene nods, signalling she tought the same.

"With frequencies?" Stiles asks.

"No, by shifting. The frequency is just the trigger. The important part is when it shifts into the werewolf" Selene explains. Lydia's eyes widen when she realizes where Scott and Selene are going with this and follows their train of thought.

"Like Peter" Lydia states.

"Right! Yeah, when Peter was an Alpha, he got stronger every full moon. Eventually, the burns healed, and he was back to normal" Scott explains. Brett nods in understanding as he puts the pieces together.

"So, the Dread Doctors don't want to wait for the full moon" Brett realises.

"They want want the Beast to be as strong as possible, as fast as possible" Selene adds.

"Because of Parrish" Liam realises.

"So, if this is happening tonight, what are we going to do?" Lydia asks. Stiles reaches into his backpack, which is sitting next to him on the table, and pulls out a crime scene photo, sliding it across the table so the others can see it.

"Uh, we've got one clue to go on. This came from the hospital-- whoever's lurking inside the Beast is wearing a size-10 of indeterminate make" Stiles explains. Lydia rolls her eyes and looks at Stiles skeptically.

"Indeterminate?" She asks. Stiles gives her a look.

"It means it's a partial print. Basically, it was all we were able to get considering all the fire, blood, and carnage..." Stiles explains. Scott looks anxious at the sound of this news.

"How many size-10s are out there?" He asks.

"Only one with Parrish's blood on the sole" Brett answers. Liam also looks anxious as he glances back and forth between Scott, Lydia, Selene, Brett and Stiles.

"So, are we going to try to get the game cancelled?" Liam asks.

"No. No, we're going to play, but we're just going to hope really hard that it doesn't turn into a blood-soaked massacre" Stiles says while giving Liam a 'What do you think we're gonna do?' look.

"Okay, but, umm... Aren't we kind of missing out on a chance to catch this thing?" Liam asks.

"Liam is right. We don't have the "who," but we have the "where" and the "when."" Brett agrees. Scott considers this idea for a moment, seemingly open to the concept, before grimacing in frustration when he thinks it through.

"There's too many people" Scott eventually decides. Lydia pipes up in a hopeful voice, but it's clear by the look on her face that she's not really convinced by her own words.

"And we still don't actually know if it's going to happen" The boys all give her a skeptical look as she continues. "It just might end up being a regular lacrosse game. It's possible... right?"

"Last time soemthing like this was going on and there was a lacrosse game... I got stabbed by a blade covered in yellow wolfsbane that was hiden in a lacrosse stick. After being partially parelyced, I was attacked in the changing room and someone tries to cut my head off" Brett reminds them. Stiles' tone is disbelieving when he replies.

"So yes, Lydia. That's absolutely possible..."

"But this is Beacon Hills. When does it ever end up to be a regular lacrosse game here?" Selene adds.

"So, we're still getting the game cancelled?" Liam askes again. They all stand to their feet and gather up their things as Scott gives them a determined look."We're getting the game cancelled" Scott replies.

They all leave for their respective classes, but Lydia hangs back. She stops in her tracks after a moment and frowns in confusion, visibly overwhelmed by a banshee premonition of some sort.

"Lydia are you alright?" Selene asks. Lydia sighs when she realizes something is wrong, but doesn't seem to know what it is until she hears a familiar male voice calling out to her.

"Lydia..." Lydia, concerned by this development, follows the sound of his voice to an aisle between two of the far bookshelves, where a naked, soot-covered, and bloodied Parrish is hiding, trying to maintain his modesty by tucking his legs under him. Lydia looks horrified by the giant, still-healing claw gashes on his face, chest, and shoulders as she tries to figure out how to help him. Selene sighs.

"You should get him to Gerard and Chris" Selene admits.

"I should?"

"Yeah, if I go with you, I can't promise to no rip Gerard's throat out" Lydia nods in understanding.

Sheriff Stilinski says he doesn't have the authority to cancel the game. He says he would need to go to the school board with evidence of a credible threat. He suggests they get Coach to forfeit the game but Stiles explains that he has been in rehab for the past 7 months while they've been stuck with a substitute coach. The sheriff suggests they check on Finstock's progress.

~~~
Stiles and Scott find the Coach in the reception area of Stepping Stones, Beacon Hills Rehabilitation Center. Finstock pretends to be catatonic until they touch his checker game when he snaps to and grabs Stiles' arm. He refuses to check out to coach the charity game. Scott says they know he is fine but the Coach says he has a debilitating disease and indicates it is alcohol related. He then admits that he's staying in rehab to avoid taking another arrow to the stomach.
He says he's convinced the Stepping Stones folks to let him stay by having relapses, seven of them. He says every time they're about to discharge him, he relapses. He refuses again to coach the game saying he hates charity games because they're meaningless. Scott explains the charity game benefits cancer; the coach wants to know if it's for or against cancer. Stiles says against, deeply against. Scott says they need him but he says he'll never coach "there" again.
Stiles explains that they don't actually need him to coach the game. They want him to forfeit.
Gerard and Chris Argent examine Parrish's wounds and determine he is healing slowly. Parrish says he only remembers bits and pieces of his fight with the Beast. He remembers he was losing. Chris tells Lydia and Parrish that he believes resolving Parrish's internal conflict with the Hellhound could help him win the external battle he's losing with the Beast. Gerard wants to put him into a machine to give Parrish and the Hellhound "a proper introduction."
~~~

Three microwave transmission vans from TV stations are aligned at the game. The bus from Devenford Prep is also in the parking lot.

~~~
The Argents place Parrish in a device to lower his body temperature below the point that would kill a normal person. They believe slowing down his heart and mind will allow him to consciously access his subconscious mind and the Hellhound. Lydia points out how dangerous this would be. Gerard says it's far less dangerous than if Parrish fails to evolve to face the Beast.
Chris explains that, as the teen chimera continues to transform each night into a very large, very powerful werewolf, it remembers a little more of who it used to be. Gerard says it yearns to know its name. Not just the Beast of Gevaudan but the Man of Gevaudan. Chris says he wants to live again. He says one night the teenager will go out and transform but when it changes back it won't be the teen anymore it will just be the Man of Gevaudan. Lydia points out that Valack says that when the Beast remembers the teenager will be gone.
Parrish questions how something like that could even be possible but then, realizing that he is himself impossible, he tells them to forget he asked and gets into the machine. The machine fills with cold fog. Lydia moves toward the machine but Gerard holds her back. Parrish becomes visible in the mist. His eyes glow with fire.
Scott, Kira, Malia, Stiles, Liam, Liz, Brett, Selene and Mason have gathered in the empty science laboratory, where they're going over their plan for the evening one last time. Scott, Stiles, Kira, Selene, Liam and Brett are dressed in their lacrosse uniforms in preparation for the charity game.
