Chapter 26

He's gone

Bethan knew this was it, that Jeremy wasn't going to wake up from this, elena was in denial. They stepped though the door of the home they grew up in.

"Hey I was trying to get the burn stain out but-" Caroline was cut off seeing Bethan's tear stained eyes, stefan holding a dead Jeremy and Elena acting like everything was fine.

"Let's get him upstairs" elena spoke. As soon as Caroline heard them in Jeremy's room she rushed over to Bethan.

"how are you" and the brunette couldn't contain it she began crying to Caroline.

"hey shh shh it's gonna be okay." She tried to sooth her best friend. Caroline got Bethan onto the couch with some tea, as stefan and Caroline talked about what they was going to do.

"I'm not in denial I have hope, and I'm going to hold on to it" The doppelgänger spoke. Bethan turned around speaking for the first.

"Just deal with it you don't wanna admit he's gone because if you didn't throw a hissy fit about being a vampire he would still be here, and you know it's all your fault" Bethan seethed at her sister. Everyone just looked around knowing this was going to get worse before it got better.

"everything is just magically my fault is it bethan? If you never hurt your ankle maybe I would have got there in time" that's when Stefan stepped in physical stepping in between the two sisters, the veins under Elena's eyes where out as her sister was staring his down the werewolf yellow orbs.

"that enough you two, your sisters and your going to need each other" he informed them the two of them continued to give each other a death stare.

"whatever" Bethan yelled leaving the house. Stefan and Caroline had no idea what to do.

"this is going to break them isn't" Caroline asked referring to Elena and Bethan.

"it will either bring them together or tear them apart, elena has never experienced grief on a vampire heightened emotions level, not to mention Bethan has all these new sense and emotions it's gonna be tough" stefan told her both sisters emotions are now dialled to 11.

"should we call klaus?" Caroline asked the elder vampire who gave her a shocked look.

"why would we do that?" Stefan couldn't think of anything worse than inviting the hybrid over.

"whether we like it or not he cares for Bethan, not to mention since Tyler is gone he's the only other werewolf in town" the blonde reminded him just wanting to do the best for her best friend.

"I don't know, I think we need to give them both sometime and Space although there sisters they are two completely different people, heck they're two different species they are gonna deal with this in two different ways" the elder vampire sussed

Bethan walked around the town, she wondered into the woods then up on to the Falls, she sat on the bridge looking down at the water beneath her feet. That's when she started to have a flashback.

Flashback

Jenna was suppose to be watching the kids but she hadn't noticed Jeremy had snuck out, Beth watched from her window and decided to follow him. Jeremy led them to the falls where she could he was crying.

"Hey little man what's up?" She asked sitting next to him.

"at school Ryan said I was his best friend but Liam said I was his, and I had to choose who was my best friend or they wouldn't be my friends any more" he explained

"that is stupid, you can have more than one best friend" Bethan told him

"really but how?" The 9 year old didn't know how to explain to the 7 year old kid as she watched the falls.

"Take the falls for example, new water falls into the river below but there is still room for the old water right?" She asked and Jeremy nodded

"just like your heart makes room for more than on best friend." Jeremy stopped crying and smiled at his cousin.

"Your really smart Beth" he told her

"I know I am" she smiled proudly

"I know your my cousin and all but your more like a big sister, you always know what to do" he hugged Bethan and she laughed

"you'll always be little brother jer bear, now let's get back before Elena tells aunt Jenna we're gone" she giggled helping Jeremy up his feet "I'll race you" he yelled.

Flash back over

A tear rolled down Bethan's face as she thought of the memory.

hey jer bear" she smiled looking down at the falls.

"I don't know if your on the other side and can hear me but I love you. And I'm sorry I couldnt save you" she whispered, Bethan picked up a couple of flowers

"until next time kid". Bethan was walking home when she saw Damon and Stefan outside

"what happen?" She asked them wondering why they weren't outside.

"Bonnie wants to do Silas myth thing a drop the veil to the other side" Damon told her and Bethan practically flipped out.

"is she crazy, that's practically inviting back kol, Finn, the tomb vampires everyone we've killed" Bethan yelled throwing her arms up in the air.

"she can bring Jeremy back though" stefan wanted to see what her reaction would be.

"so one life doesn't counteract then 100s who could die if this was to happen" stefan and Damon smiled knowing Bethan was on there side meaning the could manipulate klaus to be on their side as well. Bethan went back into the house and found Elena upstairs.

"I wanted to say I'm sorry, it's not your fault Jeremy." Bethan apologised

"it's not fair he had his whole life ahead of him bethan" Elena replied. Bethan Knew she had to be the strong one she had to be the big sister.

"I'll tell you what, I'll go and get us Jeremy favourite take away, we'll watch his favourite movie and we'll smile at all our memories of him, and how much we love him okay?" Bethan offered and Elena agreed.

"I'll be back in a while" Bethan drove back home to see her house up in flames and Elena, Damon and Stefan stood in front of it.

"elena you burned out house down, that's where we grew up" Bethan said and Elena gave her this blank look as Bethan watched their home go up in flames. "I

"don't care" was all she said walking passed her sister. Bethan ran into the house with Damon hot on her heels.

"What are you doing?" He yelled looking at the teen girl running up the stairs.

"I couldn't leave with out it" she whispered grabbing the frame off of the wall. Damon scooped her up and ran out of the house.

"what was so worth it?" He snapped and she showed him the photo, it was a picture of Jeremy who couldn't have been no older than 10, Bethan and Elena either side of him, their parents in the middle John on the right and Jenna behind Elena. The family was all stood over this birthday cake, Jeremy's cake smiling.

"Let me drive you home?" He offered and Bethan Just kept the picture to her chest.
