《Barbie Driver》Chapter 12

Monami's POV
All I can feel is darkness. It's all I can see too. The last thing I remember is my best friend carrying me into the hospital and yelling at people to help me. My head hurt really bad, that's why he wanted to help me.
Karan always does that. He always tries to give me what I want or need. He makes me feel safe and loved, and protects me from everything that scares me.
Karan has been there for as long as I can remember. Even when I was just a little baby.
Well, I mean I'm still a baby, just not like I used to be. My mommy says that I'm growing really fast and soon I won't be a baby anymore. But even when I'm big like her, I still want Karan to call me baby. And only him. Not Bubba.
Bubba came home earlier and I was very happy to see him. I thought he was happy too. But later on he threw me to the ground and I hit my head really hard. It hurt.
But Karan saved me like he always does. He's my favorite person in the whole world. I don't want him to ever leave me. But he says he won't. Even when I'm big.
I want to wake up and see him. But even when I try and open my eyes, I can't. But somehow I still feel like he's there. In fact, I know he's there. I can hear him.
"Monami?" I hear his voice say. "Are you okay?"
Yes, I want to say. But I can't find my voice. And I can't open my eyes.
"Please wake up, baby," Karan begs. "Please, just open your eyes," He pauses and waits for me to say something. And when I don't, I hear his breath catch. "I love you baby girl, I miss you. Please wake up for me. I can't live without you,"

I try with all of my power to open my eyes, or at least reach out and grab his hand, but I can't. I'm completely unable to do anything but stay still.
Karan POV
When the doctor finally lets me go into Monami's room I bolt in thier with werewolf speed. She's laying motionless on her hospital bed, her hands spread out beside of her. Her short caramel hair is stuck to her hair with what I assume is sweat. But even in her pale state, she's beautiful.
I sit down beside her bed and grab her
where I'm touching her. But she makes no move to show that she can tell I'm there.
"Monami?" I whisper. "Are you okay?" I plead for her to respond, but she doesn't not in anyway. After a few seconds, I realize she's not going to.
"Please wake up, baby," I beg. "Please, just open your eyes." She still doesn't say anything and I have to fight to keep my tears back. It causes an unattractive sound to come out of my throat.
"I love you baby girl, I miss you. Please wake up for me. I can't live without you,"
Even with my words that come straight from my heart, Monami doesn't move. There's no sound, no twitch, no flutter of her eyes.
I feel my heart break even more. And only Monami can heal it.
And when a single tear drips from my eye, the only word I can mutter is; "Please,"

8 321The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
