《Broken (Jughead x reader)》Part 9

-Y/N P.O.V.-

It was lunch and I was sitting next to Betty and Kevin at a table outside, listening to Archie play random chords on his guitar. I heard footsteps approaching and looked up, hoping that maybe Jughead had reconsidered sitting with us. He had said that since he and Archie were still not exactly friends, he would just go somewhere with his laptop and work for a while. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't him. It was a girl that I had never seen before. She sat down at the table and started talking to Betty. I stared at her, wondering who she was and how did she know Betty. Apparently she knew Archie too because she was also talking to him. I nudged Archie and looked at him with what must have been a very confused look on my face because he seemed to know exactly what was wrong. I had stiffened and all of sudden I was grabbing Kevin's arm, scooting closer to him. I was very uncomfortable with someone I didn't know sitting across from me and was confused as to why everyone else knew her and I didn't. God, I hated being confused.

"Oh, right. Y/N/N this is Veronica, she's new here. Veronica, this is my sister, Y/N but we call her Y/N/N for short. She's-" he stopped talking when I stood up abruptly from the table and began to walk away.

"Y/N/N! Where are you going?" He called after me. I turned around and crossed my arms, putting my hands on my shoulders. I did this when I was nervous sometimes, it was like I was covering myself from something but I had no idea what.

"I-I-...I'm...just explain. Explain me...to her. She should know but I... I don't want to know.... how you explain me. I don't want to know." I turned back around and whispered "I don't want to know" a couple more times, walking in the direction of the school. I heard Archie call my name and then Betty ask if someone should follow me. Archie said it would be fine as long as I went inside. I didn't know where I was going, I just let my feet carry me. When I finally stopped and looked at my surroundings, I realized that I was looking for Jughead. Of course I was. He must be one of auto routes as I like to call them. They're the places that I've ended up the most when I space out like this. They always seemed to be places I liked, it was like my brain was trying to lead me to a place full of good memories when I was feeling trapped or uncomfortable.

I was glad to see that Jughead was now part of that list because when I looked around, I was in the gym. I had seen him sitting here typing away on his laptop a few times and sure enough, there he was, probably working on his novel. I walked up the steps to the bleachers and sat down next to him. He looked over as I sat down. A worried look took over his face and I realized that maybe I looked more distressed than I though I did.

"Hey, are you okay?" He asked, moving his laptop and putting an arm around me. I leaned into him, probably pushing his PDA comfort zone but he didn't show any signs that he was uncomfortable so I stayed there.

"Y/N/N?"

"I'm fine, just uncomfortable."

"Uncomfortable now?"

"No, I was uncomfortable outside because there was a new girl sitting with us and I walked away and told Arch to tell her about me and how crazy I am and... I walked away because I don't want to know how they think of me or how they explain me to other people." I paused to take a deep breath, "fuck... what's wrong with me, Juggie?"

"There's nothing wrong with you." He said. I huffed at that so he continued, "Okay, there's nothing wrong with what you did. You're just uncomfortable in new social situations and I get that. There's nothing wrong with that."

"Thank you." I whispered, "I spaced out and ended up here. I think I was subconsciously looking for you 'cause I knew you would make me feel better."

He grabbed my hand and rubbed my knuckles with his thumb. It was quiet here. Everyone else was outside in the sun, but I liked it here where there weren't any people. But as I said before, all good things finish faster than expected. The bell rang and I could hear the halls flooding with people. I looked at Jughead.

"I don't want to go out there." I said.

"I'll take you to your next class, c'mon." He stood up, still holding my hand. He grabbed his laptop bag and pulled me towards the door. I stuck close to him as he pulled me through the crowds. I kept my head down, watching my feet so that I wouldn't trip, until I heard Betty's voice and felt Jughead let go of my hand.

"Y/N/N, I was looking for you. Um, hi Jughead." she said looking between the two of us.

"He found me walking around." I explained.

"Oh alright. Do want me to take to class now?" she asked.

"Yeah, sure. Let's go. Bye, Jughead." I said moving to link my arm with Betty's.

"Right, see you later." he said, turning around and disappearing into the crowded hallway. When I looked up at Betty, she seemed suspicious, but didn't say anything and I never told people things unless they asked very specific questions.
