《The Night Shift (Mike Schmidt x Reader)》3. Overdrive

Mike immediately went from his calm and collective self to acting like a spaz on twenty large mugs of coffee. He ran back and forth between the doors, pressing all the buttons, and went through his tablet views (I had guessed that it was a security cam system by now) at such a pace that he almost looked like a big blur. "Thank god, everything's okay." I cleared my throat to remind him that I was still there. "Shit, you're like a chameleon! Jesus, are you some kind of hybrid?" Mike playfully asked. "Nope, you just can't seem to remember whether or not I'm here." What was this guy's problem? He never seemed to stay in one personality when he knew I was there. One moment calling the cute robots assholes, the next nervously making sure they weren't after him.
"Okay then." Mike pulled me back into reality. "You'll take the right side, I'll take the left. Just do what I tell you to, and we'll make it out alive." he instructed. I ran over to the right side of the room, standing by the control panel. Mike looked over at me and he suddenly seemed guilty. "Fuck, did you want to sit down? Here, just take the chair. My legs are asleep anyway." "Okay, sure, I guess."
He pushed the black swivel chair in my direction, and I sat down. Although worn, it was actually pretty comfortable. I was so busy fitting myself into the worn seat's grooves that I jumped when Mike yelled, "DIDN'T YOU HEAR ME?!?!? SHUT THE DAMN DOOR!" I smacked the wrong button, and I saw Chica staring at me through the window. I screamed and hit the button that would close the door.
"Damnit, you almost killed the both of us!" Mike said. "Shit, sorry. I just kinda zoned out... I'll bring my own chair next time."

"Sorry. You're fine, I've just gotten so used to these guys... A slow reaction could lead to immediate death..." Mike continued mumbling something about a phone going missing. You just sat still, waiting for Mike to tell you to do something. Eventually, Mike's watch started to beep, which scared me out of my skin. Other than the fan, the room had been completely silent.
"The shift's over. Other than that one little... Incident... you did great for your first night on the job. I'm looking forward to working with you again." Mike said. He kind of sounded genuine about it, too. "Okay, see you tomorrow!" I replied. We headed out to the parking lot, and we waved to each other. After he drove off, I screamed as loud as I could. I had mastered the art of putting on a cool face, but I was screaming internally the entire time. That was HORRIFYING! I should quit, but I don't want to leave Mike alone with those monsters...
I'm going to work tomorrow.

Only a Demon can Slay the Gods
Gust steps into a world of cultivation and magical arts after his father’s death sends him searching for answers. With his father’s lucky coin in hand, and an indecipherable journal in his back pocket, Augustus Perry stumbles into a world he never knew existed. There, he finds a school of mages who speak of Gust’s father as if he were a long-lost legend. They fear Gust’s world and some even call him a demon. It is only out of respect for the coin’s former master that the mages take him in and teach him their methods for cultivating mana. But how could an immortal renegade swordsman turn into the quiet, withdrawn man Gust always knew? What brought him to Gust’s world in the first place, and why did he never go back? If Gust ever wants to know who his father truly was, he’ll need to embark on the very same quest that drove his old man insane. New Chapters M-W-F. **This is my attempt at western progression/cultivation fantasy, inspired by stories like Cradle, the works of Er Gen, and more mainstream fantasy like the Wheel of Time and the Cosmere books.**
