《Steam of Britain》Chapter 10: Scrap Yards

Jack was sent to help work at the one place no engine wants to work at: The Scrap Yards. He brought metal to be cut up, melted down, and turned into many different metal molds. Jack was reminded of what happened to his brother, Oliver and his break van Toad. He hated to remember the day that that he was gone and never to be seen again. He worked hard, and there was a diesel that he hated very much. His name was Iron Hide. He often loved to move metal in to be melted down. "Watch out," he'd say, "Or else you'll get the cutter's torch!"

Jack hated this whole experience. One night, Iron Hide was sleeping very heavily. Jack had to do everything by himself now. Just then, he heard something. "That sounds like a steam engine," said Jack. "I am. My name's Silver Link. Are you a North Western Engine?" "No, I'm one of the engines from the Steam of Britain Fleet." "Oh joy!" said Silver Link, "I'm over here!!" Jack looked to see a rusted steam engine that looked like Mallard. "Are you related to Mallard by any chance?" "Yes, I was the first of the A4s every built! I even broke the speed record on my trial run!" Jack looked at him, and said, "Wait, I can help you! We can bring you back to King's Cross, and then fix you up!" "But the workers...." "Don't worry about it!" said Jack, "We'll defend you, steamie and diesel alike!" He then coupled up to Silver Link, and he pulled with all his might. Silver Link creaked, and groaned, but soon, moved out of the yard, and didn't stop once. He worked hard to bring Silver Link to King's Cross. There, he hid him in the guest shed, and said, "Wait here, I'll go talk with the shed master."

At the roundhouse, he saw the shed master, and said, "Sir!" "Jack, can I help you with something?" "Yes, I need you to look at something!" The shed master saw Silver Link, and smiled, "Another steam engine for our fleet?" "Yes!" said Jack, "I believe he can show us when the steam engines out did diesels!" The shed master then called the board, and they were amazed that an engine was had sacrificed his work to save another of his kind. So now, they decided to fix him up and restart the Silver Jubilee.

Soon, Iron Hide came, and yelled, "WHERE IS HE!?!" "Who?" asked Harold innocently. "YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU KETTLES!!" "We don't have any new steam engines here." Iron Hide then rattled to the works, and broke down the doors. He then said, "There you are, now, come on, and-" "IRON HIDE!!!!" yelled the railway board, "We approved of this, and YOU will respect our decisions!" "What ever," said Iron Hide. He just rolled up to Silver Link, and was about to head back, when the workers started to beat him with hammers, crowbars, and all sorts of tools. "HEY!! STOP IT!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS!!!! I DEMAND THAT YOU AND YOU STUPID 🤬 RAILWAY BOARD STOP!!!!" The work shop fell silent. Mack was getting his check up there. He didn't like Silver Link being repaired, but he hated his superiors told off like that. "Iron Hide," said Mack. "Ah Mack, care to help me?" "No, you are a disgrace to diesel engines everywhere! I don't understand why you're even in service after what you have said." "He won't be," said a man, "I suggest he is to be withdrawn from service, and replaced with a more, humble, and kind diesel engine." "I don't think so," said Iron Hide. Just then, his fuel was taken out, and the board said, "Put him on the next dead train to Sodor." Iron Hide didn't feel so powerful now.

Soon, Silver Link pulled out of the works like he was just freshly built.

He was a whitish silver, his smoke box was black, had the numbers 2509 on his cab, dark grey valances on his sides, his name Silver Link, on the side of his boiler in grey letter with blue outlines, and the letters LNER on his tender. "Wow!" said Mack, "I must say, for a steam engine, you look impressive." "Thank you," said Silver Link. Soon, he arrived at the yard, and Mallard was shocked. "I don't believe it!" he said, "A Silver Jubilee engine?!" "Yes, you can thank the tank engine called Jack." Mallard then talked with Silver Link about being the fastest engines around.

For the time being, Silver Link helped work the local, and soon, he pulled the Elizabethan a few times. He then got a silver rank of coaches, and he pulled them all the way to New Castle. He enjoys the time he has, and works hard to the end of the day, and is happy to call the Steam of Britain his family.

(Hey guys, I was thinking long and hard about this. Originally, Silver Link was gonna be in place of Mallard in this series, but I chose Mallard since he made the record. Let me know what you think of this chapter.)
