《Keeping Up With Cade》Chapter Twenty Eight: Make believe boyfriend

Chapter twenty eight.
'You look so nervous,' Cade smirked at her. 'Relax I'm not about to jump on you.'
Blair ate the slight disappointment at his words and smiled at him, 'Good.'
'Do you have your pyjamas or need anything? I'm going straight to bed,' he said moving around his room picking up some things laying around the floor.
'They're in my room...' She trailed off suddenly. 'Oh shit I cant go in there! Jake and Hailey are having...' She trailed off and clamped her mouth shut.
'You can say it you know, you're not the little innocent madam anymore are you,' Cade grinned at her. 'Sex.' He enunciated the word carefully watching her reaction.
Blair blushed under his stare, 'Having alone time!'
He chuckled and threw her an old red shirt to wear to bed and Blair escaped into the bathroom to change. She knew he'd seen her body anyway but it still felt awkward.
When she crept back into his room the lights were off and she could see the outline of Cade in his bed with the blanket pulled over him. She walked with her hands out in front of her careful not to trip on anything, feeling around and eventually landing safely on his bed with a thump.
'You are so uncoordinated,' she heard him sigh.
Blair finally lay down opposite Cade in his bed and she was highly aware of him, the smell of his pillow and his cologne was strangely familiar and comforting. He was lying on his side, his head rested on the pillow watching her. Once Blair's eyes adjusted to the darkness she could see him too with the streetlights outside giving them just enough light.
'That movie was pretty funny hey,' she said softly.
'Er yeah,' he replied with a yawn.
'I had fun on our date.' She joked watching for his reaction.
He chuckled, 'It wasn't a date sweetheart.'
'I think it was,' she was teasing him now. Possibly due to the fact she was still intoxicated, but she honestly thought she could embarrass him. 'You knew it was a group date didn't you?'
'No I didn't, sorry to burst your bubble.'
She could hear the amusement in his voice and she smiled to herself.
'Go to sleep,' he whispered and she could feel his breath across his face.
'Do I get a good night kiss?' She was feeling cheeky now and was very happy to use his words against him.
He chuckled and turned over on his back, 'Oh aren't you funny. Ask me when you're sober and maybe I will...'
Blair's eyes widened as she watched his eyes shut carefully. Great, how was she supposed to just go to sleep now?
...
Blair moaned as she was awoken with a pounding headache and sunlight shining into her eyes. She stretched out in the large bed, feeling the crack in her back and neck bringing quick fleeting relief. She opened one eye and spotted a glass of water and sat up quickly chugging it down. She sat against the headboard pulling the covers to her waist and finally glancing down at the sleeping form of Cade next to her. He looked so peaceful sleeping, with his chest rising up and down slowly.
'Are you watching me while I sleep?'
Blair nearly dropped the glass of water she was so startled.
'Because that is so creepy...'
His eyes opened and he smiled sleepily at her.
'I was not,' Blair rolled her eyes at him. Gosh she was getting good at lying.

'So do you have anything to ask me this morning Blair?' Cade sat up in the bed, the blanket falling off exposing his bare chest. 'Now in the clear light of day and in your sober state?' He had a smug look on his face and Blair knew exactly what question he was referring to.
'You are so frustrating, do you know that?' She shook her head at him. 'My head is killing me, how much did I drink yesterday?'
'Enough that you tried to have a go at Noah, you're lucky I stepped in and finished the job,' Cade grinned and rolled into the middle of the bed.
Blair groaned as the memories flooded back into her mind. 'Oh no, I did threaten him didn't I? How awkward!'
'He deserved it,' Cade chuckled sitting up in bed next to her. 'You were like a different person last night by the way. So cocky and sure of yourself.'
Blair felt a slight blush coming on at his words, 'Shut up I was not.'
'Oh yes you were,' Cade smirked. 'Look at you now, all innocent in the light of day. I bet you couldn't even push Noah into the pool if you tried.'
Blair laughed and pushed him in the side as hard as she could and noted with satisfaction as he winced slightly. Then his eyes flashed with mischief or maybe something else, she wasn't sure.
'Oh brave move,' he smirked and pulled back the blankets quickly pouncing on her using his fingers to tickle her exactly where he needed to get the right response.
Blair erupted into laughter and giggles as she tried to fend off his unwelcome hands. 'No, no stop!' She squealed loudly thrashing about.
Suddenly Cade's bedroom door swung open and Jane stood there looking shocked. 'I thought I heard female laughter...' She trailed off with her eyes darting between Cade's bare chest and Blair's bare legs in the rumpled bed. 'I'm shocked,' She frowned heavily at them.
Blair was frozen in her spot, blindly feeling for the blanket to pull it over her legs in embarrassment. 'Jane... I can ....'
She tried to explain but Jane interrupted her, 'Get dressed the both of you and meet me downstairs. This is unacceptable behaviour under my roof.'
The door swung shut and Blair looked over at Cade uneasily. She'd never seen Jane so angry before, she could have kicked herself for being so loud. She was so used to them being out of town and not having to worry. She hoped Jane stayed out of Hailey's room or there would be some awkward conversations happening with everyone this morning.
'Shit,' Cade muttered jumping out of bed and pulling on a shirt. 'How bad is this? Do you think she really cares?'
Blair shrugged, and bit her lip 'She's pretty easy going usually...'
'She seemed really mad though,' Cade replied turning away as Blair got dressed back into her dress from last night.
The two of them solemnly headed downstairs finding Jane sitting at the kitchen table looking annoyed. They took the seats opposite her and Blair tried again to explain.
'It's not what you think, honestly Jane.'
Jane just raised an eyebrow at her, 'So you didn't sleep in Cade's bed last night?
Blair frowned, 'Well yes but..'
'What I am unhappy about is the fact I walked in on something going on between you two,' Jane went on ignoring Blair's argument. 'You are both living under my roof and I have rules. I also promised your parents I would look after you as I would my very own children.' Jane frowned again, 'Your parents would be horrified to know you are sleeping together and both living in this house.'

Blair felt her cheeks go dark red and she didn't dare look over at Cade.
'Not that it matters much, but are you two an item?'
Blair sighed and went to shake her head when Cade suddenly piped up, 'Yes, we are! I'm sorry Jane we should have told you sooner, but I asked Blair out and she's my girlfriend now...' He trailed off reaching out and taking Blair's hand in his over the table. 'We shouldn't have stayed together here though, I am sorry.'
Blair could feel the colour drain from her cheeks, they were a what now? Item?!
'I...Uh... Yes,' Blair stuttered taken completely by surprise. What the hell was Cade doing?
Suddenly Hailey walked into the kitchen humming loudly, she paused and took in the situation before her and backed out slowly.
Jane shook her head looking more surprised than angry now, 'I just wish you had come to me sooner and we could have lay down some boundaries guys. I am not happy with you sleeping together when I am supposed to be looking after you. We're going to have to tell your parents.'
Blair's shoulders sagged and she took her hand away from Cade's. That was just great, she was being forced to tell her parents she had a boyfriend. The first boyfriend she'd ever introduced to her parents and he wasn't even real...
'Blair your parents are home from China tonight, we'll have them over for dinner. And Cade,' she turned to Cade. 'We'll call your mother later this afternoon.'
Blair and Cade nodded their heads together awkwardly.
'Go and have some breakfast,' Jane sighed again. 'And under no circumstances are you to be in each others rooms with the door closed.'
Oh my God how embarrassing! Blair was beside herself as Jane exited the kitchen leaving the two teenagers in utter silence.
'So, uh...' Cade started and trailed off. 'Shit.'
Blair punched him in the arm, 'Why the hell did you tell her we were in a relationship you jackass?'
Cade rolled his eyes, 'Easy tiger! Did you want her to think you were screwing me for fun? That would look much worse believe me.'
'We weren't even having sex!' Blair complained. 'It was actually innocent for once.'
'What the hell just happened in here?' Hailey entered the room carefully looking around for Jane. 'I sent Jake out the window, luckily.'
'Your mum walked in on us in bed together,' Blair's shoulders sagged. 'She probably hates me.'
Hailey's eyes widened, 'In bed, in bed together?'
'No, we weren't doing anything,' Blair shook her head. 'It just looked really bad.'
'So what happened?'
'She wants to tell our parents, she feels upset we were doing that under her roof when she promised our parents to look after us...' As Blair said it out loud she could see where Jane was coming from. She had promised both their parents to provide a safe home for them during their last year of school. She could see why Jane was so mad. It would look bad for everyone.
'It's just really unlucky is all,' Cade shrugged getting up to make some breakfast. 'Hailey is doing the exact same thing but didn't get caught, teenagers everywhere do this... What parents don't know usually won't hurt them.'
'Unfortunately ours will now know...' Blair groaned. 'This is so bad, hey Mum and Dad haven't seen you in months and the first thing you get to hear is I'm sleeping with some guy.'
'Some guy?' Cade raised an eyebrow. 'Relax would you. You're stressing.'
'Of course I'm stressing, you haven't met my parents,' Blair frowned at him.
'It'll be better coming from you,' Cade pointed out. 'What time are they arriving? Why don't we go and pick them up from the airport?'
Blair paused and looked over at Cade confused, 'We as in you and I?'
Cade smirked, 'No we as in Hailey and myself. I thought it'd be easier to meet your parents and explain everything without you there.'
Blair rolled her eyes, 'Oh funny man again, I don't think that's such a great idea Cade... The first time they meet you they find out you're my boyfriend and we're sleeping together? They won't like that...'
'You have a boy-what now?' Hailey interrupted her sounding shocked.
'Oh I forgot to tell you the best part,' Blair shot Cade a look of contempt. 'Cade told Jane we are in a relationship so it didn't make me look so bad.'
Hailey frowned at Cade, 'So you would pretend to be in a relationship with Blair to lie to her parents... but you didn't want anyone at school to know you were hooking up with her for the past year... You're insane, you know that?' Hailey shook her head and stood up, 'Just let me know what you guys plan on saying.' She left the room quickly leaving Blair and Cade alone again.
'Well they'll be less pissed off to know I'm not just sleeping around,' Blair said resignedly.
'Which is what you were doing,' Cade grinned at her teasingly.
She blushed, 'So were you!'
'Yeah but my Mum knows what I get up to, I'm not worried at all,' he shrugged at her with a slight grin. 'She's caught me before too.'
Blair's face scrunched up in disgust, 'Oh gross.' She watched as he tucked into a bowl of cereal thoughtfully. 'How many people have you slept with anyway?' The words had popped out before she could over analyse them.
Cade looked over his shoulder quickly and turned back to Blair amused, 'Is this a conversation you want to have over breakfast?'
Blair shrugged and joint him at the table with her bowl of cereal, 'I'm kind of interested to know.'
'Not too many, don't worry,' Cade winked at her completely avoiding the question again.
'I think our versions of 'too many' may slightly differ,' Blair replied rolling her eyes but deciding to drop it, maybe she didn't want to know after all.
'Aw, you getting jealous again?' Cade bumped her shoulder slightly smiling. 'That's cute.'
'Oh get over yourself,' Blair bumped his shoulders back.
'It's okay, you're my girlfriend, you're allowed to be jealous,' he was teasing her again but Blair couldn't help but start to get annoyed with him.
'We're not in a real relationship Cade,' she rolled her eyes at him. 'And what Hailey was saying before is kind of true!' Blair sighed and turned back to her cereal in a huff.
'Hailey says a lot of things,' Cade shrugged easily. 'Be more specific.'
'About the fact you totally ignored me in school, the entire time we really were hooking up! You teased me and made me look stupid in front of the others and then come home and act like nothing happened!' Blair was getting really worked up now. 'What?' She asked him as he looked at her in slight confusion. 'Am I supposed to forget all that just because you bought me a stupid present and took me to the movies?'
She saw a brief flash of hurt across his features before a stony expression replaced it. 'Are you kidding me right now?'
'No Cade I'm not kidding you,' she lowered her eyebrows at him. 'Don't forget the fact you ditched me quite publicly for my sworn enemy, and now you want to pretend all is rosy? Are you kidding me?'
Cade scrunched up the newspaper he had in his hand angrily throwing it onto the table. He was frustrated, annoyed and pissed off that she was sitting there and saying all this to him.
'You are unbelievable!' He burst out uncontrollably. 'Un-fucking-believable!' He stood up and started pacing the kitchen, stopping suddenly and turning toward her. 'Yes at the start of - whatever the hell we were doing – I didn't want anyone to know about us...' He trailed off shaking his head at her. 'For obvious reasons that it would spread or Jane would find out! But things changed!' He spluttered with anger and Blair sat back in her chair suddenly regretting her outburst at him. 'You're sitting here and making me out to be the bad guy when this is all your fault!'
Blair stood up stalking over to where he stood in the kitchen her anger levels nearly boiling over in fury, 'My fault? How the hell is this my fault?'
'I bloody told you I liked you didn't I?' Cade exploded with his hands in the air making his point loud and clear. 'I told you I liked you and ... you started dating someone else...' He trailed off suddenly losing some momentum.
Blair gasped out loud and stood perfectly still in shock.
'I told you I fucking liked you... and you picked someone else'
