《Cars to Humans》Chapter 16: World War III

(Lightning's POV)

The helicopter landed a few miles from where we would battle. All the soldiers, including me, exited the aircraft and started to get into formation. I was to be in the middle of the group. Many soldiers surrounded me, and they all had a look of fear in their eyes. I knew exactly how they felt, for I knew I had the same look in my eyes.

After we gathered in formation, an army sergeant parked in front of the group. He was a hummer with a camo paint job and was wearing a red bandana across the top of his windshield. He yelled with a great booming voice.

"It is time to end this! We have drove and suffered enough from these troublemaking humans! The whole car world and universe rests on your tires! This battle will prove your loyalty and ability to honor, serve, and protect your society! The world needs more leaders, such as yourselves! Now go, and God speed!"

We all slowly drove towards the battlefield. Many other groups of soldiers started to join our group, until we were a massive wall of cars. We kept driving forward with precision and care. The Earth flattened beneath our tires as we continued moving towards our destination. If only I could turn back now.

We were about 2 yards from our destination when we stopped. I looked around me at the other cars. Silence. That's all that was heard. Complete, still silence. A slight breeze blew the overgrown weeds in the field, and the sun shone brightly above. Everything became still and, ultimately, frightening.

We just stood parked there, waiting. Waiting for the moment.

We only had to wait a second before it came. The enemy. An entire human army jumped from the weeds, and howled a deafening battle cry. The cars returned the scream and both groups charged at the same time.

I was pushed by several cars. I was too scared and still to even comprehend what was happening. I couldn't fight. I was weak. I didn't feel this was right.

I suddenly felt an emotion deep inside me. The feeling of rage. I had no idea where it came from, but I was craving it. I wanted to just scream out and attack anything in my path. I shouted and grabbed my weapons and sped forward. This was war. I was a car, and I was going to remain loyal to the car world. I didn't need humans. They were nothing to me, and they never would be.

The war lasted several hours, but it felt like days. This was, soon, to be the shortest war in the history of car and human kind.

Obviously, the cars were winning. The humans would try to keep advancing, but we would push them farther back. I had been attacked several times, a couple humans scratching my paint and denting my fender. Other then the few injuries, I had never felt more alive and terrified.

The humans were increasingly losing more and more of their soldiers, and there seemed to be no more reinforcements.

I smiled to myself. The war would soon end.

I advanced towards the front of the pack, when I stopped abruptly in my tracks. I couldn't believe it was her. Scarlet was standing right in front of me. She looked very different, dressed in a white tank top and green jeans. She had brown boots and her hair was pulled back with a white bandana wrapped around her forehead. She didn't look anything like the elegant woman I'd known.

I lowered my weapon and sighed, "I can't hurt you, Scarlet."

She lowered her weapon, "Neither can I hurt you."

I looked, sadly, up at her, "Scarlet, I'm-I'm so sorry. Trust me, I never wanted it to be this way."

She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes, "I know. I didn't want this to happen either."

I slowly drove towards her and smiled a small smile. She smiled, shyly, back.

Then, all I felt was pain. I fell to the ground and clenched my teeth and eyes tight. I heard Scarlet scream, and I then felt a slight shade covering my right side. I slowly opened my eyes and looked down. My hood had been torn off, and my battery had been shot. Oil was spewing everywhere, and I was becoming dizzy. I weakly looked towards the shade covering my body. My eyes opened a little wider when I saw someone I hoped to never see again. Captain Loster.

He sighed and leaned closer to my face, "I told you, McQueen. One way or another, I would get what I wanted."

Everything started to fade and darken. I was fighting consciousness now. The oil spill was slowing down and my battery level was dropping fast. Captain Loster chuckled as I slowly slipped into unconsciousness.
