the next morning, i wake up with a smile on my face as i rush to my computer to open discord. it's 9:30 AM, so i'm not surprised to see a lot of them on, especially everyone in the uk. i join vc2 with tommy, tubbo, and quackity.
"val?" tubbo asks when i join. "hi! i'm streaming."
"oh, hi stream!" i say. "i just have something i wanted to tell you guys, it can wait though."
"no it's okay, i'll mute my stream." i hear a "click" and tubbo turns his attention back to me, informing me the stream can't hear.
"are you okay?" tommy asks.
"more than okay!" i say gleefully. "i'm going to the uk!"
"AYEEEE!" quackity shouts. "that's awesome!"
"i just need to know a few things first. when is the flight, and how long are we staying?"
"flight is february 12," tommy says. "i have no idea how long we're staying. and we're going to brighton. wilbur rented an airbnb." i clap my hands enthusiastically.
"oh my god this will be so fun!" i squeal. tubbo laughs.
"you sound like a girl," tubbo says, still laughing.
"wow, do i really?"
"tubbo's surprised because you're ONE OF THE BOYS!" quackity shouts in his obnoxious, dramatic accent.
"ONE OF THE BOYS!" tommy and tubbo exclaim in sync. i laugh.
"i appreciate that so much," i say, wiping fake tears from my eyes.
"okay, but actually? i have no idea how long we're staying. probably a couple of weeks? dream hasn't bought plane tickets for everyone to go home yet, but he can probably buy them while we're in brighton," tommy says. i nod, biting my nails.
"cool..." i say quietly. "i'm so excited." a wide grin spreads on my face.

"same," tubbo says. "just don't put it on social media. it's going to be a surprise for the fans."
"ooh, that's fun."
"alright, i recommend telling dream and wilbur you can go so you get a plane ticket and a ride to the airbnb from the airport. i'm going to unmute my stream, but if you have any questions you can dm any of us."
"sounds good, i'm going to go tell dream right now. bye guys!"
"bye, valerie!" all three of them say in unison. i laugh as i leave the call and go to my direct messages with dream.
valerie: hi dream! i talked to my parents last night and i'm going to go to the uk! :)
Dream: NO WAY! pog! okay, i'm buying your plane ticket right now
valerie: ty ty
Dream: oh ummm... everyone's flights are full, so you'll arrive slightly later than everyone else. are you cool with that?
valerie: as long as i get there at some point LMAO
Dream: perfect, here's your ticket! -insert photo of ticket lol-

over the week between buying the ticket and the trip, i get to know everyone a lot better. i figure, if i'm going to be staying with these people for weeks, i better get to know all of them so it's not awkward.
i love talking to them. i used to think that people online were insanely fake and egotistical off camera, but the streamers proved me wrong. i adore all of them and their fans.
speaking of fans, i realize i hadn't posted on twitter in a while.

the day of my flight finally arrives. i anxiously jump out of bed at 7:44 in the morning, which never happens. i look at my perfectly packed carry-ons and triple check to make sure i have everything. my flight is at 10, so i will get there around midnight my time, which is 8 in brighton. i cringe thinking about the jet lag. i have to leave for the airport in about an hour, so i quickly eat breakfast and put on an outfit.
i head to the airport, bouncing my leg as i wait for my flight. once it's finally called, i jump up quickly and get on the plane. i quickly text my mom and then we take off.
the plane ride is boring. i'm stuck in a cramped seat for thirteen hours, but i continuously tell myself it will be worth it once i get to brighton. i put in my airpods to drown out all the babies crying and mothers frantically trying to get them to be quiet, and eventually doze off into an uncomfortable sleep.

Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
