《Greta Van Fleet Imagines》Study Buddy (Josh Kiszka)

You sat down on Josh's bed, throwing your backpack beside you. Life was busy. Between you being in school and your boyfriend constantly touring, it was hard to spend time together. Sometimes you only had two weeks together before Josh had to leave again, and this time was no different.

You were supposed to go out tonight, but your business law professor decided to move your exam up from Friday to Wednesday. You were crushed when he announced it at the end of class on Monday. Tonight was the only free night you had before Josh, and the rest of the guys left for a tour Saturday morning. But Josh had an idea. Instead of entirely scraping the night like you initially thought, he offered to order take-out and help you study. Even though he knew nothing about law, he said he would still be able to quiz you on your notes and that maybe explaining the information to someone would help you remember it.

"What are we studying tonight?" Josh asked, sitting down across from you.

You unzipped your backpack, pulling out your notebook and textbook. "Chapters seven and eight, torts and negligence."

"I don't even know what those words mean." Josh laughed.

"It's okay. I made flashcards." You reached back into your bag and pulled out a stack of notecards. The exam might only be on two chapters, but there was enough information to overwhelm anyone.

"Why am I not surprised? You've probably been studying for at least a week already." Josh grabbed the stack of notecards and began flipping through them. "Wow, Y/N, these are extremely detailed." He added as he flipped over a notecard about a case.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure what he's going to ask. He said there would be some definitions, and then we'll be given some cases and have to answer questions about them. I want to make sure I have all my bases covered." You explained.

"Since I know nothing about any of this, you tell me where you want to start." Josh handed you back the flashcards as he spoke.

"Um, why don't we start with my notes on chapter seven, since the chapters build off each other. Then at the end, you can ask me the flashcards because they're all jumbled up."

"I like that idea." Your boyfriend grabbed your notebook and flipped through the pages stopping at the one titled 'Chapter 7 - Intentional Torts.' He took a minute to admire the neatness and detailing of your notes before he began questioning you.

"Okay, first, let's start with what is a tort?"

"A tort is a civil wrongdoing for which you can receive compensation." You watched as Josh looked down at the notebook to see if you were correct.

"That's right." He smiled at you. "Now, how many types of torts are there, and can you name them?" He looked back down at the notebook as you answered.

"There are three types of torts, and they are intentional torts, unintentional torts which are also called negligence, and strict liability."

"Again, that's correct." Josh smiled at you.

This went on for the next two hours. Josh continued questioning you, and you continued to prove that you studied way too much for this exam.

"Okay, next question." Josh turned the page of your notebook as he spoke. "What are the five things someone must prove to have a negligence case?"

"Duty of care, breach of that duty," You counted on your fingers to help you keep track of how many you have said.

"So far, so good. You need three more." Josh assured.

"Wait, don't say anything. I can get them." You were sure you knew them. You were just blanking at the moment.

"Mutual assent?" You tried to say, but it came out as more of a question than a statement.

"No." Josh shook his head, making his curls bounce against his face.

You sat in silence for a minute as you racked your brain for the answers. You knew it was in there because you remembered writing it on a flashcard.

"Intent?" Again, it came out as more of a question.

Your boyfriend didn't answer this time. He just shook his head, indicating that your response was wrong.

"Ugh. I know I know it. I studied so much, and I can guarantee this will be a question." You ran a hand through your hair in frustration. You were doing so well, but it was like everything just left your head.

Josh closed your notebook and set it on the bed. "Why don't we take a break for now. We've been at this for over two hours. You need to eat."

You sighed in defeat, knowing he was right. It would be good to take a break. "I guess so. I am starting to get hungry."

"Why don't I order some Chinese food for us?" He pulled out his phone and dialed the number before stepping out of the room.

Once the door closed, you threw your head back on Josh's pillow and let out a sigh. You've been beyond stressed lately. Between school, work, and Josh's constant touring, you've been dealing with a lot. The bedroom door opened, and Josh re-entered, breaking you from your thoughts. He made his way over to the bed and laid beside you.

"They said the food should be here in about twenty minutes." He explained.

You just nodded to tired to give a verbal response.

"How's my businesswoman doing?" Josh brushed a strand of hair out of your face and tucked it behind your ear.

"Stressed." You revealed. Usually, you were the type of person never to admit anything like this. You always wanted people to think you had it all together. But you were just so worn out that none of that mattered anymore.

Josh moved his hand from your face to your hand. He grabbed it and began gently rubbing his thumb over it.

"Don't worry. You'll do fine tomorrow. You got pretty much every question I asked right." He smiled widely at you. God, you loved that smile, and you were going to miss it terribly when he left.

"It's not just the test that's stressing me out." You watched as Josh's smile disappeared from his face. It was replaced by a furrowed brow and a look of confusion. You went back to focusing on your intertwined hands before you spoke again.

"It's everything. I go to school every day. Then when I come home, I go straight to work, and if I'm not working, then I'm studying or writing papers. I never have time to breathe and be with you. The rare few minutes I do have free are usually when you're on stage or when you're rushing from hotel to venue." You looked back up to see a look of hurt etched across Josh's face.

"I know it's hard now. But just think you only have one more year of school left before you graduate. Then you'll be able to travel with us and shove that business degree up management's ass." You laughed at Josh's choice of words.

"There's that laugh I love so much."

"I don't think management would just let me waltz on tour straight out of college with no experience and work for you guys. Especially since I'm your girlfriend." As much as you wanted to work on a tour with the guys and help out with the business side of things, you knew management would never let it happen.

"Management doesn't make all the final decisions." Josh smirked. "And besides, you're smart, you have past job experience even if it's not with music, and we can all vouch for you."

Just then, the doorbell rang, drawing both of you away from the conversation.

"That must be our food," Josh said as he stood up from the bed. He made his way downstairs, returning a few minutes later with a box of food and two bottles of water.

The two of you ate in comfortable silence. It was nice to be together for once and just take in each other's presence. You smiled to yourself as you watched Josh attempt to eat his lo Mein noodles, which happened to be just a bit too long to fit on his fork.

Once you both finished eating, Josh grabbed the flashcards sitting in a pile next to your textbook. "Why don't we go over these and then call it a night. Okay?"

"sure." You repositioned yourself in front of him, so you were comfortable.

You did better on the flashcards then you were doing when he questioned you on your notes. You could see the look of amazement on Josh's face. He was always amazed by how smart you are.

"Okay, one last notecard. This is for a perfect score." Josh used an announcer's voice, and you had to hold back a laugh.

"What are the five things someone must prove to have a negligence case?" He read the flashcard before flipping it over to see the answer.

"Duty, breach of duty, actual cause, proximate cause, and damages." You rattled off without even so much as a thought.

"That's right," Josh yelled, throwing the flashcards in the air. Both of you laughed as notecards rained down around you, littering the bed and the floor.

"I knew you'd eventually get it." Josh smiled, leaning in closer to you. He gave you a quick peck on the lips.

"Now, if I can just remember all of this tomorrow when I'm taking the exam."

"I think you will. You've been studying forever." Josh reassured you.

"I hope. I mean, I did have a good study buddy." You smirked, wrapping your arms around Josh's neck and kissing him. You leaned back onto the pillow behind you, pulling Josh down with you. After a few seconds, Josh rolled off you, so he was lying on his side, facing you.

"I want you to call me and tell me how you did when you get this exam back. I don't care if I'm sleeping or in the middle of soundcheck." Josh wrapped his arms around you as he spoke.

"Will do Mr. Kiszka." You buried your head in his chest, muffling your laugh. After a while of laying there, you noticed Josh's breathing slowed, and you realized he fell asleep.

You rested your head on his chest and listened to the sound of his heartbeat. Eventually, in Josh's arms and surrounded by flashcards, you fell asleep too.
