《Always There || Greta Van Fleet》Chapter 21: All Yours

She stood there in the doorway waiting, staring back at me with eyes sadder than I've ever seen despite her poor attempt at a forced smile. I couldn't tell what she wanted or what she wanted me to do. I didn't want to say or do the wrong thing, risking making this any worse than it was already becoming, but I knew if I just let us sit in this silence without addressing.. anything, then we would be right back at square one.
And I could never go back to how we were before, not after last night. Not everything we said, everything we did.
She finally just shook her head, making her way out into the hallway. I quickly pushed the covers off of me, hopping out of bed and chased after her, grabbing her by the hand before she could go downstairs.
I had to do something, and whether or not she even remembered last night.. I was willing to deal with that after. I just hated not knowing, and if a few seconds of courage cleared everything up, then.. so be it.
If I had to be the brave one between the two of us, then I would be.
For her.
"Jaime, wait." I snapped, pulling her back towards me. She stumbled back, balancing her hands against my chest as she stared up at me wide-eyed. By now, my heart was pounding, my mind totally blank as I got lost in those big beautiful eyes again.
"What?" She sighed, her face dropping. I couldn't take this anymore.
I reached up, holding her face in my hands, pulling her into a passionate kiss. And just like the first time, and so many more after, there were fireworks. She instantly reached up, tightly wrapping her arms around me, kissing me back harder. I couldn't contain the smile that escaped my lips, now leaning my forehead against hers.

She remembered.
She flashed we a wide grin, pulling me back into another series of kisses as she slowly pushed me back towards my bedroom. My hands wandered down to her waist, pulling her up against me as I leaned back against my door. When she finally backed away, she stared up at me with a playful grin.
"I'm not hungry anymore." She whispered, reaching by me to open the door and gently pushing us back inside. I quickly shut and locked the door behind us.
Her hands traveled up, tightly gripping onto my shirt, kissing me back harder as she pushed me back towards my bed again. I reached over, stumbling back onto it as she fell on top of me, letting out a loud laugh.
"Shh!" I laughed, gently covering her mouth. "No one knows you're still here." She reached back up for me, giggling again as she pulled me into another series of kisses.
I couldn't believe this was finally happening. Waking up to her, getting to kiss her the way I've always dreamt of kissing her, knowing she wanted me too, and all completely sober.
"Jaime.." I sighed. She shook her head, leaning in, kissing me again. I gently caressed her face, lightly combing my fingers through her hair.
"You are so beautiful." I whispered, pulling her in for one more kiss.
"You're not so bad yourself." She giggled, rolling over next to me. She propped her head up onto her hand, staring back at me with dazed eyes and a lovestruck grin. How did I get so lucky? Jaime could have anyone she wanted, but for some reason.. she wanted me.
We stayed locked in my room for the remainder of the morning, arms and legs intertwined in any way we could manage to make up for so many years of lost time. I never wanted to let her go.

"I've never done this before." She laughed, taking my hand, gently interlacing our fingers.
"Done what?" I asked, feeling my cheeks burn.
"Stayed the night before.. being someone's girlfriend." My heart jumped.
"O-oh.." I managed. "Me.. me either."
She held her stare on me, as if expecting more.
"I.. I didn't know you've been anyone's girlfriend before." I asked. She shook her head, giggling to herself.
"I haven't, you know that."
"But you-"
"I was kidding, Josh." I nodded, looking back down at our hands, now feeling stupid.
"Got it."
"So.. since.. I don't really know how this works, are we like.. together now?" It felt like my body was on fire. Together. She wanted to be together. All I had ever wanted was for us to finally be together.
"Jaime.." I started. I could see her face start to drop. I quickly pulled her into a long kiss until I felt her smile again.
"No, no.. not like that." I sighed. "Jaime I have wanted us to be together my whole life." She bit down on her lip.
"But?" I shook my head.
"No but, I just.." I stopped, needing to make sure I worded this right.
"Jaime, I'm not anybody else's. I am all yours, I'm pretty sure that.. I always have been but.. as far as us being.. official. I want to ask you.. the right way. You deserve to be asked right. And.. as you know, I've never asked a girl out before so.. I want to make sure I do it right.. for you."
She bit down on her lip, her smile growing as she gently ran her fingers down my cheek.
"You're all mine?" She asked. I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn as I pulled her into another kiss.
"I've always been your's, Jaime, whether you wanted me or not." She kissed me again, tangling her fingers in my hair.
"I'm all your's too." She sighed. "No matter what we want to call it."
"Oh, trust me, I want to call it exactly what it is, you have no idea how badly I want to call it what it is.." I said, pulling her closer to me. She hid her face in my chest, trying her best to contain her giddy laughter but it was no use. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole house heard us at this point, but I didn't care. I had waited my whole life to have this moment with her, I didn't care what happened.
She finally looked back up at me, pulling me into another long, passionate kiss. I would never get tired of kissing her, making my heart burst like the 4th of July every time her lips met mine.
"So.." She sighed. "When are you gonna take me out?"
"Are you free.. tonight?"
"I can be free whenever you want."
"Then tonight it is."
"I can't wait." She sighed, pulling me into a tight hug.
And then the panic started to settle in.
Our first date.
