"Well that was humiliating." I sighed, tossing his shirt back to him. He threw mine over to me, smirking.

"Well, he should've knocked." Jake said simply.

"You know he's upset, Jake." He stopped, looking over at me.

"I know, but I'm allowed to be happy too." I sat down on the bed, staring back up at him.

"I know, but.." I shrugged, looking away. "We can be sensitive towards him."

"If the roles were reversed-" I cut him off.

"If the roles were reversed, he would be sensitive towards you." He stared back at me, biting down on his lip.

"He.. he wrote me a song." I said quietly, avoiding Jake's eyes.

"He what?" He snapped. My cheeks burned as I looked back at him.

"He wrote me a song. He played it for me the other night. Everyone was sleeping, and we were the only ones awake. We were in his bunk and-"

"Why were you in his bunk?" He snapped.

"It wasn't like that, Jake." I sighed.

"Well, then what happened?" He asked, his face getting redder.

"Nothing happened.. I.. I didn't really know what to say. So.. I just came back to bed. And that was it." I could tell there was a lot he wanted to say, but he stayed quiet.

"What are you thinking?" I finally asked.

"I'm thinking.. why is my brother writing songs for my girlfriend?" He snapped.

"We don't have to make this a big deal." I said quietly, looking away again. "I just wanted you to know. I didn't want to keep it from you."

"Well, how do you feel about it?" He asked.

"It was a beautiful song. He's.. he's just coping. I didn't see anything wrong with it." Jake held his stare on me.

"Jake, I love you." I said softly. He finally sat down on the edge of the bed, his face relaxing.

"Why did you wait so long to tell me?" He asked, staring back at me with sad eyes. I shrugged.

"I was going to tell you. There just... wasn't a good time between then and now." He nodded, looking down.

"And.. nothing happened?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Nothing happened." He nodded again. I moved closer, gently holding his face in my hands.

"And.. you didn't want anything to happen, right?" He said softly, his eyes sad, staring back into mine. I felt my heart drop.

I had never seen him like this before.

"No." I said, gently kissing him on the lips.

"Okay." He sighed, giving me a subtle smile. He reached up, tangling his fingers in my hair and pulling me into another kiss. I moved closer, climbing back onto this lap, kissing him back.

"We should head out. Everyone's probably waiting for you." He sighed, leaning his forehead against mine.

"You're right, I know." He got up, taking my hand and lead me down the steps of the bus where we were instantly met with screams from the fans waiting outside.

"I'm.. gonna go wait with your family while you talk to them, okay?" I said.

"You sure? You can stay, it's okay. They wanna meet you too." He laughed, his grip on my hand getting tighter. I nodded.

"Yeah, it's okay. I'll see you when you're done." I whispered. He smiled and leaned down, quickly kissing me on the lips. My cheeks burned as he flashed me a big smile.

"Sorry." He mouthed, and then went down the line.

I made my way backstage where I eventually saw Ronnie standing with Danny, Sam and Josh.

"There you are!" Ronnie yelled, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. She turned to the guys.

"Her and I are gonna be best friends." She looked over at me. "They never bring any girls home. I'm so glad I finally have someone to hang out with."

"Well, Jess has to shoot the show." Sam laughed. "She's on the clock."

"Oh, stop. You guys look the same every night. You can't let her watch with us for one night? She's family now." I couldn't help but smile.

"I'll tell you everything you need to know about Jake." She laughed, leaning in close to me. "Don't worry. I know he can be a little.. secretive." I nodded. She wasn't wrong. Now that I thought about it, I didn't really know that much about Jake. Come to think of it.. Josh and I had had deeper talks than Jake and I ever had. My stomach dropped when I looked over to see Josh already staring at me. He quickly looked away. I'd have to talk to him again sooner or later. Ronnie noticed me staring.

"I heard." She whispered. My face burned. I peeked up at her. She gave me a subtle smile, looking back over at the guys.

"About Josh. I heard." I nodded.

"Oh." I sighed.

"We don't have to talk about it. It's okay. Things happen. Trust me, I get it." She said, her voice trailing off. She looked down at Jake's necklace, smirking at me. I couldn't help but smile.

"Just know.. he's crazy about you, Jess." She said quietly. I felt my heart beating faster. I nodded, reaching for his necklace, flipping the stone between my fingers. She peeked back at me.

"...Jake is too." She said softly. My heart dropped. Now I knew what she meant.

I looked over at Josh, the memory of last night flashing through my mind. No one had ever written anything for me before, let alone a song. He just seemed so sure of himself, so confident in everything he did, and for someone like me, that was terrifying. Maybe I had written him off too early. He stood off in the wings, laughing with Sam. I couldn't help but smile; his smile was contagious.

I had never understood how anyone could be so up front, so sure about anyone so fast, but Josh really wore his heart on his sleeve and maybe I just didn't understand it.. until him and I were alone. When we were alone, he felt real. I felt my cheeks burn. Josh peeked over at me again, giving me another smile. I held my stare this time, smiling back. He started to make his way over.

"And.. that's my cue." Ronnie said, going over to Sam and Danny.

"Hey.." He said. I bit down on my lip.

"Sorry about before." I mumbled. He shrugged.

"I don't know what you're talking about." He said plainly. My cheeks burned. I knew he did. He looked down at Jake's necklace. I tucked it under my shirt. He smirked up at me.

"Should we.. talk about it now?" I asked, his eyes got wide.

"Talk about what?" He asked, his cheeks turning redder.

"Your song."

"If you want to." He said, staring back into my eyes. My heart started beating faster.

"It really was beautiful, Josh." I sighed, staring back. His smile grew as he moved closer to me.

"Well, I meant it." He leaned his arm against the wall, now looking down at me. It felt like my whole body was on fire. Suddenly I was taken back to that first at the bar, sitting too close, fingers intertwined.

I couldn't help but think about how things could've been different.

"Hey.." I heard from behind us. "What's going on here?" It was Jake.

"Nothing." Josh sighed, pushing from the wall and backing away. Jake shot him a look, and then turned to me.

"Hey.." I said, turning to him. He wrapped his arm around me, pulling my closer, glaring at Josh.

"So I heard you wrote a song about my girlfriend." Jake said. "Do I get to hear it too?"

My stomach dropped. Josh smiled.

"She told you, huh?" He said simply.

"She did." Jake said, holding his stare.

You could cut the tension with a knife.

"So, Jess is gonna watch with us tonight." Ronnie said, making her way back over to us, not aware of what she had just walked into. "We're giving her the night off."

"Fine with me." Jake said plainly, holding his stare on Josh. I reached over, gently grabbing his hand. His face relaxed, and he looked down at me. I motioned towards the stage. He nodded.

"Shows gonna start." He said, glaring back at Josh. "We should get ready." Josh nodded.

"I've been ready." He said, smirking back. Jake's cheeks burned and I felt his grip tighten.

"Come on." I whispered up to him.

"Okay." He said, now leaning down, kissing me on the lips. It felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. But I knew exactly why he was being like this.

And I hated it.

"Let's go." I snapped, taking his hand and pulling him towards his side of the stage.

"Jess, what's wrong?" He asked, his voice dropping. I turned around.

"What was that?" I snapped. He stared back with wide-eyes.

"What was what? I can't kiss my girlfriend?"

"You're shoving me in his face and you know it. Why are you being like this?" I yelled.

"Why am I the only one who's bothered by the fact that my brother is writing you songs?" He said, his voice getting louder. "Am I the only one who remembers what happened between you two were when you first got here? Obviously he has feelings for you, Jess. You're my girlfriend and he's kind of being a real jerk about the fact that you chose me."

"And honestly Jake, you're being a real jerk about it." I said, pulling away.

"I'm being the jerk about it? I tell you I'm in love with you, and then you tell me my brother wrote you a song, and you're hanging out with him in his bunk in the middle of the night." I felt my stomach drop, my face burning.

"And obviously you don't trust me. I don't know where this guy came from, but this isn't the guy that I fell in love with."

"Jess.." He sighed, his face dropping. I looked away.

"I just.. I can't talk to you right now. Have a good show, I guess."
