Hi! It seems like the boy himself is confused on whether he likes you or not. You said that he used to flirt with you, but not anymore and that he denies that he used to call you.
As mentioned before, your friend is most probably confused, or unsure whether he likes you in a romantic way. Many people tend to flirt without any real meaning behind it, so I advise to not dwell on that aspect too much. His confusion can also be the reason why he refuses to accept that he called you on multiple occasions.
As for whether you like him or not, that is totally up to you! You are entitled to like anybody you want to; there is no one stopping you. If anything, you might want to take into consideration the mentioned factors. Thinking things through might help you determine if you like him as he is, or if you liked him because he flirted with you. Also, don't be afraid to confide within a friend. They might know and understand the situation a little bit better and give you some insight and tips.
