~Thump thump~
Of all the things you choose in life, you don't get to choose what your nightmares are... you don't pick them, they pick you...
~Thump thump~
When you have something like a nightmare, you will wake up and tell yourself that it was only a dream, though it is said that the world we live in is not so different from that...
~Thump thump~
~"No! Please! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!"
"Maybe a day or two in detention will teach you not to pull a stunt like that again brat!"
"No please! I-I don't like the dark! Please don't"~
'No!' I shot straight in bed, looking around the dark room I was in.
The only light was from a tiny candle that I had sat on my desk in the corner of my room, It didn't do much but it gave off just enough glow so I could see every corner of my room. It made the darkness a little less, which was a lot more comforting.
'Not again,' I think pulling the covers off me and standing, walking out of my new room.
I was discharged from the hospital a few weeks ago, now in the temporary house of the Hokage. Father said he was looking for a house for us after Lord Naruto becomes Hokage and we have to move but I'm fine with anything.
I made my way out of my room, rubbing the back of my neck before rolling it. I walked into the kitchen, the strap of my sleeveless top hanging off my shoulder. I walked over to the fridge, opening it and getting myself a glass of cold water. I then walked back into my room, hopping onto the windowsill, sitting and staring out at the village below me as I sipped the cold liquid.

~"Put him through the Academy, he's shown promise as Kakashi-sensei said, we make him a ninja,"~
'The Academy...' I think taking a gulp of water.
'I wonder what that's going to be like...' I place the now empty glass down and fold my arms leaning against the wall frame.
'Other children... other ninja children...' I sigh, resting my arms on my knees.
'I don't know if that's a good idea,' I think.
I look up at the moon as it begins its descent, its time in the sky coming to an end. I close my eyes, softly rubbing my wrists as I debate on whether or not to go back to bed and try to get some more sleep or to just stay up. I used to have to be up by now, daybreak, about 4-4:30 every morning at that research facility, I wonder what time the people in this village usually get up, what time Father would be up. Then again, he didn't come home again, so he probably didn't get any sleep. Deciding against going back to bed, I pulled one of the clean sets of clothes Father had gotten me out and got dressed, locking the house before heading out for a run.
Running through the empty streets, I took deep breaths, allowing the clean air to filter through my lungs as I jumped from building to building, through the trees, and onto rooftops.
'This place is beautiful,' I think standing with my hands on my hips.
A high-pitched whistle then caught my ears, making me turn my head as I looked for the source.
'Train,' I think to myself before seeing it move along the horizon of the village.
"Hey, get down from there! That's dangerous!" I looked down to see a lady standing below me waving her arms around as she called to me.

I turned and jumped away, running along more rooftops as I made my way to the mode of transportation. Father didn't want me back on training till next week, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him right, besides, after living 10 years of none-stop training, I think I might go insane if I have to sit and do nothing but read for another minute. Jumping from pole to pole next to the tracks, I grabbed a hold of one and swung myself onto the roof of the train, landing lightly in a crouch/squat position.
Slowly rising to my feet, I spread my legs, balancing myself out so I wouldn't fall before raising my head. I looked ahead at the track the train was on, slowly leaning to the side, looking down at the tracks we passed. I chuckled to myself lightly, walking to the end of the train and looking at the rising sun. I smiled, closing my eyes and lifting my head as I felt the warmth of the sun rays on my face, raising my arms slightly as I felt the wind blow through my hair and over my body. The train blew its horn again, -the high-pitched whistle a lot clearer in my ears-, as it made its way to the next station. I turned my head, the strong wind now blowing my hair into my face, as I looked over the awakening village. I took another deep breath, looking ahead past the track again, turning so my back faced the village before falling backward and through the air. I had my eyes closed, enjoying the feeling before opening them and rolling my body so I faced the oncoming floor. I put my hands out, grabbing onto a branch from a nearby tree and swinging myself around before up and onto another rooftop. I stood, watching the train continue on its way before looking over the village. I was about to jump off the roof and onto another when a child's laugher caught my ears. I crouched down and looked around, hearing the laughter again I looked down at the roof I was on and flipped over, sliding down a wall before grabbing a hold of a window and looking into the room.
"Dad!" I watched a boy about my age with blue eyes and blonde hair run-up to another blonde sitting on the floor.
"Hey," The older male turned and hugged the smaller boy.
'Lord Naruto,' I think to myself as the familiar face smiles at a mini version of himself.
I then turn my head and watch a woman with short dark blue hair walk into the room, a small girl with the same dark blue hair in her arms. They all sat down and the small girl ran up to Lord Naruto as well, hugging his neck and giggling.
'This must be his family,' I think.
I watched the family a little longer before jumping down off the house and running back to my own.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
