《Knock, Knock》Eighteen

By the time I woke up, I had several missed calls from Edwin and Cassandra. I ignore them just as I did last night. I push myself out of bed and head into my restroom. I couldn't fathom why I was so upset with the fact that my sister and best friend kept their secret away from me. Everyone lies about their relationship, especially when they don't know how others react.

I guess, I was more upset at the fact they kept it from me for nearly a year. I'm Cassandra's only sister, only sibling for that matter. I would expect for her to tell me her secrets, especially if they involve my best friend. I let out a breath as I continue to get ready for the school day. I couldn't continue skipping school.

Once I'm clean and dressed, I head out my apartment. I groan at the sight of Thomas. I roll my eyes at the man. I was irritated with the sight of this man. Why was he even here so early in the morning? I lock my door and ignore his presence as I walk past. My eyes land on Kathryn, in all her glory. She wasn't wearing anything special. She was just in a skin tight dress that stopped an inch above her knees.

My eyes stay glued to her legs as I struggle to walk towards the elevator. I manage to trip on my own two feet and fall onto the carpeted floor of the hallway. Kathryn rushes to my aid. "Hey, Casey are you okay?" she questions as she helps me sit up.

I blink several times before my eyes land on her radiating beauty. I try to form words, but fail the longer I stare at her. "Case, are you okay?" she questions again, bringing my eyes to her lips.

I take a deep breath and let it all out slowly before forcing my eyes away from her and nodding my head. "Y-yeah. Yeah, I'm fine, g-great. I should go, I'll see you later" I spit out nervously as I rush to my feet and towards the elevator.

Once inside and confided in my own space, I run my hand down my face. What the hell was that?

As I exit the elevator, I notice two faces. Immediately, for the second time today my mood is ruined. I scoff and walk around the couple who just follow me. "Casey, you can't ignore us forever" Cassandra hisses as I reach my car. I unlock my door and open it. I pause and chuckle before looking at the two of them.

"I can, just like you two ignored me for nearly a year." With watery eyes, I get into my vehicle. I crank it up and pull out of the parking garage before they can get another word out. I let out a shaky breath as I feel a tear roll down my cheek. Was I being to harsh on them? I glance in my rearview mirror at myself.

I make it to school in 30 minutes. Slower than usual, but usually I don't have to fight back tears to see clearly. I wipe my face and make sure I don't look as though I have been crying my eyes out before entering the building. I groan at the sight up ahead. Edwin surely wasn't going to give up easy.

I quickly hide behind a few kids as I try to escape his eyes. Unfortunately the kid bends over to tie their shoes. My eyes meet his and I escape down a very familiar hallway. My feet drag me into Kathryn's classroom. My eyes land on the brunette, who was turned away from me, writing on her whiteboard. I don't bother clearing my throat for her to acknowledge my existence.

Instead I acknowledge her flawless calf muscles. Women in heels do something to me. This woman in particular, is driving me insane.

Kathryn turns and yelps as her eyes land on me. I apologize and walk further into the classroom, stopping besides her desk. "Morning" I say, trying to act as if I hadn't seen her this morning. It hasn't even been a hour.

"Good morning. I see you're feeling better than you did earlier." My brows shoot up and I nod my head before couching nervously. "Uh, yeah."

The sound of the bell breaks my attention away from the brunette. I glance behind me to the students who begin entering. I point behind me and glance back to Ms. Howard. "I guess, that's my cue. I'll see you later."

She nods her head. I turn on my heel and begin to leave the classroom but something stops me. I make a 180 and head back to the brunette. She glances at me in confusion. I lean over the desk, close enough for her to hear me. I lick my lips and glance down at hers before speaking. "You look so beautiful" I mutter. My eyes meet her just in time to see something flash in her eyes.

Kathryn smiles and pulls away from me. "Thank you, you better get to class or you'll be late." I smile and nod my head before heading off towards my own classroom.

"I probably don't have a say in this, but I think you're being too hard on Edwin and your sister" Jasmine voices her opinion as we take our seats. It was my last class of the day and honestly, I just wanted to get home and relax. Suddenly, I'm reminded of my dinner hang out with Kathryn and I can't help but to smile. "Okay, creep. Mind telling me why you just break out smiling?"

I lick my lips and shake my head. "It's nothing, just happy today is Friday."

Jasmine eyes me but before she can go into saying anything else, Mrs. Evans begins the lesson. Saved by the teacher this time. I keep my eyes on the blonde in order to ignore my friend's curious gaze. As Mrs. Evans is speaking, I notice her eyeing me. I furrow my brows and try to ignore her weird glances.

The class continues. Students work on their assignments as Mrs. Evans works at her own desk. I glance up several times, my eyes meeting hers before I awkwardly look away.

"Hey, Edwin wants us to meet up at his place and maybe like stay the night and then go to the party tomorrow together."

I glance at Jasmine in annoyance. She was really pushing. I knew she was just trying to be a good friend to both Edwin and I, but she didn't understand how I felt. "I can't" I reply and continue writing in my journal. Jasmine scoffs. "You pushing them away isn't going to make this situation any better."

"That's really hypocritical Jasmine. A few days ago you wouldn't talk to me about something I have no control over, now you're telling me how to handle a situation?"

The brunette sighs and rolls her eyes. "Yeah well this situation is different. Edwin's your best friend and Cassandra is your only sister. Don't let some secret pull you guys apart."

I can only roll my eyes at her answer. And for the rest of class, I keep to myself and keep my eyes on my own work. When the bell rings I stand and gather my things. "Ms. Kings, could you stay behind for a second?"

My eyes land on Mrs. Evans who remained seated at her desk. I nod my head as if I had any other choice. Students file out of the classroom as I make my way over to my English teacher. Once the last student exits the class, Mrs. Evans smiles at me. "I wanted to talk about your absences. You skipped two times this week and you haven't talked to me about getting any make up work. Is there something I need to worry about?"

I scratch the back of my neck, "Uh no. No. I'm fine, I guess I've just been out of it. Is there anyway I can get that work?"

Mrs. Evans shakes her head, "I already put in your grades." This causes me to frown. My grade in this class probably dropped. "You're a good student in here, I'm sure if you would've done those assignments you would pass without a doubt. Your grade didn't change."

I eye the woman in confusion but also relief. "You know Casey, I think you might be my favorite student. Don't let it happen again."

I smile at the woman and nod my head. I begin towards the door but I stop myself. "Mrs. Evans, may I ask you something?"

The blonde nods her head. "How do you know when you like someone?" I question. The woman smiles as her eyes trail beyond me. "You know when you have to ask someone or when you think about it. Just know, I support you in your decisions."

I furrow my brows in confusion but keep note of that. I turn back towards the door, coming face to face with Kathryn Howard. My eyes roam over her figure before sending her a smile. She returns it and walks past me and towards her friend. I keep walking.

Before I can make it out the building, I'm stopped by my friends. I sigh and look down at my feet. "We're going to my house after school, are you coming?" Edwin questions hopeful. I bite on my lip and look him in the eye. "I can't. I already made plans for today."

"Casey you don't have to lie and you don't have to push me away."

I scoff and walk past the three. "I'm not lying but it pains me that you think I would lie to my best friend. I'm not you" I hiss and bump Edwin's shoulder roughly as I pass by him. They don't try to stop me anymore as I exit the school and head towards my car. Once I get inside, I punch my steering wheel a few times and groan out loud.

I hate when people are so hypocritical.

I pull out of the parking lot and head to a place I hadn't been in over a month. I pull my phone from my back pocket and text a very familiar number. And instead of replying with a text, she calls me. I groan and roll my eyes as I answer. "Normal people reply with a text" I spit.

The woman laughs, "Normal people start a phone call with 'Hey' or something along those lines" she teases. I don't say anything which forces her to start the conversation. "Well, I'm not at my dorm right now. I'm with my boyfriend" Diana sighs.

"Boyfriend? You rather be with him instead of me?" I joke. Diana laughs, "You know I rather be with you babe. But he goes back home Sunday and we want to make the most of the night."

I can't help but to smirk at her reply. I sigh, "I guess I can respect that. I'll just see if your roommates are available."

I could hear her anger emitting from the other line. "I'm just joking, calm down babe. I'll just go home all horny and lonely. I'm coming to see you Sunday though after he's gone."

"Whatever. Just don't be stupid tomorrow okay. And make sure my brother doesn't do anything stupid either. I love you but I've got to go." The blonde hangs up and I throw my phone into the passenger seat. Well there goes a good time. I make a U-turn and head home.
