《All At Once》You always are

After the night with my parents both Myles and I agreed that it was late and we would visit his mother the following day.
I think I was more excited to meet his sisters than I was to meet his mother. I was always better with younger people. Adults scare me. They're so judgmental. Though his fifteen year old sister may be just as judgmental as anyone else.
So here I am sitting in his beautiful corvette, seven weeks pregnant, and silently freaking out. But Myles seemed to feel my internal freak out, because without removing his eyes from the road his hand slipped comfortably on my thigh.
My shoulders sagged as I let out a long breath. I watched as we passed by the different restaurants, cafes, and parks. The smell of the early July summer activities and freshly cut grass dancing in the air.
Myles and I sat comfortably in the car, the low hum of the radio filling the silence, until we reached a well known suburban area.
Myles slowed the car down as we approached a booth, one elderly man sitting inside. When he noticed the car pulling up beside the booth, the elderly man focused his attention on us.
"How are you doing Myles?" he asked, a broad smile replacing his bored expression. Myles' face mirrored the old man's. "I'm doing great Henry, how 'bout yourself?" Myles asked, his southern twang more prominent.
"Enjoying life."
Myles laughed, "As you should be," Myles paused, "Are the girls here?"
Henry and I made eye contact. "They are," he said moving his gaze back to Myles.
"We 'otta get going then," Myles said waving his hand politely.
Henry gave him a curt nod, "I'll see you soon then." We slowly started to move forward, going at a steady pace on the suburban streets.

We take a few turns, passing by many beautiful houses. Finally we pull into the driveway of a tan, two story house. Myles and I exit the car at the same time. He waits for me to get to him before we make our way up the porch steps together.
Myles presses the doorbell softly, a few moments later we hear heavy footsteps approaching the door.
Myles has never mentioned a father, and I never pressured him about it, but it does not sound like a women who is approaching the door.
I feel Myles go rigid next to me.
When the door opened a large, burly man stood there with eyes wide and mouth slightly ajar. But the man quickly composed himself.
I noticed how the large man looks much like Myles, without the prominent smile lines, and bulging muscles.
I look at Myles whose mouth is set in a firm line as he stares at the man, his face tinged slightly red of anger.
"Honey who is it?" a soft voice asked as the door opened wider. When her eyes meet Myles, she stands frozen, as if she was caught committing a crime.
Myles looked at his mom with betrayal, still not speaking.
"I'm taking the girls out to lunch," he stated with no room for argument. His mom nodded meekly, pulling the man out of the doorway, leaving the door cracked as she goes to fetch Myles' sisters.
Myles closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. We hear light, rapid footsteps until the door swings open. A small girl stands there, her eyes big and a bright smile lighting up her face.
"Myles!" She yelled as she runs into his arms. Myles scoops her up in his arms, her small ones wrapping around Myles' neck tightly.

Myles' frown has turned into a wide smile as he hugs his little sister. Suddenly the door creaks once more, showcasing a teenage girl looking at her brother the same way the little one had.
It's clear both sisters have much admiration for their older brother.
Myles sat down his younger sister, stepping towards his older one, wrapping his arms around her. She wrapped her arms around him gently, but pulled away much faster than her younger sister had.
Myles' mom opened the door once more. Myles smiled at his sisters, "Can you guys go get into the car?" They nod their heads running towards the shiny sports car.
"I'm sorry," his mom said looking at Myles.
He looked at her disappointed, "You always are."
With that he took my hand, leading me to his car.
"Where do you guys want to go for lunch?" He asked looking in the rear view mirror.
His sisters looked at each other before yelling in unison, "RED ROBIN!"
Myles and I laughed.
"I should have known, you guys never pick anything else."
"We just like singing the slogan," the older one said with a shrug.
The younger one nodded her head frantically before her gaze landed on me.
"Who are you?" she asked with her blue doe eyes.
"I'm Harper," I said turning my body to face the back. "What are your y'alls names?" I asked.
"I'm Lily," the younger one stated proudly.
"Ivy," the older one said with hesitation.
Ivy looked at her brother, "Myles is this your girlfriend?"
Myles glances at me from the corner of his eye, "Not exactly." Ivy looked between the two of us.
Right as we turned into the parking lot of Red Robin Ivy let out a loud gasp. Myles and I both snapped our heads to her.
"SHE'S PREGNANT," she whisper yelled.
Myles' eyebrows shot up in surprise. "How could you possibly know that?"
"Well when I asked if she was your girlfriend you said 'Not exactly' so that either means you've already proposed, or you done knocked her up," Ivy stated matter-of-factly.
Myles stared at her dumbfounded.
"How?" asked Lily, her small fingers under her chin in a thinking pose.
"How what?" I asked not sure of what she was talking about.
"How are you pregnant? Or preggo as you kids call it these days."
I blinked several time before moving my gaze to Myles who wore a sheepish expression. I didn't know whether to be absolutely horrified or let out a loud laugh. I could hear Ivy trying to stifle a giggle.
"Who wants food?" Myles asked enthusiastically as he got out of the car. Lily hurriedly undid her seatbelt, "Myles do not forget me! I need my chicken fingers!" Lily yelled as she ran out of the car to Myles.
Ivy and I followed behind soon after. Myles and Lily walked slightly ahead. Myles bent down to pick her up, "Oh and Lily?"
"Yeah?" Lily replied hooking her arms loosely around Myles' neck.
"You are a kid," he said kissing her forehead, "don't try and grow up on me."
The sight melted my heart. Myles was so good with her. It makes me think of how he'll be to our own kid.
Ivy cleared her throat, catching me staring at the exchange between Myles and Lily.
"He'll be a good dad," she says with no doubt.
"I know."
