《Tour Guide | Steve Rogers ✓》Chapter Fifteen

Quinn Greene should have expected that it was only a matter of time before she was dragged back into the mess the Avengers had created. She had watched it all unfold in front of her, on the television in the staff room just like she had all those years ago during the Chitauri attack in New York.
The bombing in Vienna had triggered several events in only a few days, and despite Quinn's warning for Steve not to get involved, she knew that it was only a matter of time from the second that Bucky Barnes was claimed as the culprit that Steve was going to get involved, that's just how he ran. She just hadn't quite expected that Sam and Aquila would get so involved as well but at the same time, she knew what they valued as well.
The only thing she had expected at all was the unusual start to her morning which had caused her work day to end so abruptly.
She had only been at work for all of twenty minutes when she had received a call from her radio from Grace at the front desk that there was someone requesting to see her and that he was making it quite clear it was urgent.
"Hey, Grace. Who was it that wanted to see me?" Quinn asked upon arriving at the front entrance of the museum, her own voice failing her when she saw who stood in front of her. "Tony, what are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here?" He replied in an instant.
"I just so happen to work here," Quinn said, sending Grace a soft smile as she began to lead Tony back towards her office where they would be able to have an actual proper discussion.
"Oh, yes. How could I possibly forget? Cap would never stop moaning about how you moved countries. Quite a big move just to get away from him, can't say I've ever done the same."
"Tony." Quinn exclaimed, stopping both of them and sending him a glare. "You know very well that I didn't move to Berlin to get away from Steve, I moved here because I got a job opportunity that I couldn't refuse. Besides, you haven't even answered my first question; What are you doing here? Did you only come to disrupt my work environment by commenting on things you know the answer to? Or do you actually have a reason for being here?" Quinn questioned but before Tony had a chance to respond, someone else interrupted their conversation.

"Um, Miss Greene?"
"Yes, Jay?" Quinn said, upon seeing one of the newest Tour Guides in front of her. "And call me Quinn, everyone else does."
"I was just wondering where you wanted me today? None of the others knew."
"Ah, that's alright, Jay. I would love you in Dinosaur Hall today if that's alright."
"Thanks, Miss-Quinn." Jay replied correcting himself before leaving to tour in the Dinosaur Hall.
"That's Cap's competition?" Tony asked incredulously.
"Tony. Why are you here?" Quinn asked for the final time, ignoring Tony's previous statement.
"I'm sorry, everything's such a mess. It's just natural for me to use humor to cope with everything."
"It understand, Tony. But that doesn't explain why you came to my place of work to cope with everything."
"Yeah, of course. I'm sure you know what happened in Bucharest by now."
"I'm aware, yes."
"Steve and the others including Barnes will be arriving here in Berlin in about an hour. I was wondering if you could come in briefly and just try to convince Steve what the right thing to do is."
"Tony, Steve's allowed to have the opinion he wants."
"Not when it's tearing the whole team apart."
"It's not like I can get the clearance anyway, I'm not an Avenger."
"Quinn, I wouldn't come to ask you if I couldn't get the clearance. Please, do this one thing for me. I know we don't know each other well, but I know very well how much you mean to Steve, so please."
"Fine, I'll come. But I can't promise anything, Tony."
"That's all I needed to hear."
Quinn Greene walked through the government building, her usual feeling of being out of place slightly diminished with the clearance badge resting on the left pocket of her business blazer.
"Quinn!"
Quinn whipped around to see Keira heading her way before soon shouting back in surprise. "Keira!"
"Hey, I wasn't expecting you to be here." Keira said as she reached Quinn's side.
"Well, neither was I. But Tony wouldn't leave until I agreed to come in, so here I am."

"Forcing you to try and come convince Steve?" Keira winced.
"Yeah, how did you guess." Quinn sarcastically shot back.
Quinn sent a small wave towards Aquila and Natasha who were a little distracted with what looked like a really important discussion to notice Quinn. Before Quinn's eyes eventually settled on Steve and Sam standing in the glass-walled office.
"You two are the biggest idiots the world has ever seen," Keira said, marching into the office, Quinn close on her heels.
"It's good to see you, Keira," Steve said, sending a smile in Keira's direction.
"I can second that," Quinn said, stepping out from behind Keira leaning against the nearest wall, watching as Steve's smile only widened upon the sight of her.
"What are doing here?" Steve asked her confused. "Not that I'm not extremely glad you are here."
"I live in Berlin, remember? I thought it was obvious that I was going to drop in at some point." Quinn joked, pushing off the wall, accepting the hug Steve offered, before looking towards Sam. "Good to see you too, Sam. It's been well overdue.
"Yeah, well I wish it was under better circumstances," Keira replied, despairingly. "I just don't understand. I know it's Barnes, Steve, your best friend. But what did you think was going to be the outcome? Hiding Barnes away in a basement for the rest of his life? The authorities would have eventually found him."
"The receipt for your gear."
Quinn's head snapped to the door as Sharon Carter stood there. She had met her briefly at the 'nurse' who lived across from Steve back in D.C but now knew the entire truth behind her identity.
"Bird Costume? Come on, man." Sam complained.
"I didn't write it!"
Quinn's eyes eventually reached the small TV screen on the wall playing the live video showing Bucky Barnes with no sound until Sharon casually flipped the switch in the middle of the table allowing the audio from the interrogation to flow through the speakers.
"I'm not here to judge you," The unfamiliar man's voice crackled through. "I just want to ask you a few questions. Do you know where you are, James?"
Quinn held her breath slightly as everyone in the room waited for Bucky's response.
"I can't help you if you don't talk to me, James. . . ."
"My name is Bucky. . ."
The audio feed played in the background as Quinn turned back to Steve who was studying the photo that apparently showed Bucky bombing the congress in Vienna.
"Do you believe he did it?" Steve whispered to Quinn, studying her face thoughtfully, his eyes still shining like they always did nowadays with fondness.
"I don't," Quinn replied as Steve let out a small sigh of relief before turning to the rest of the group.
"Why would the Task Force release this photo, to begin with?" Steve asked.
"Get the word out, involve as many eyes as we can?"
"Right," Steve replied. "It's a good way to flush a guy out of hiding. Set off a bomb, get your picture taken. Get seven billion people looking for the Winter Soldier."
"You're saying someone framed him to find him," Sharon asked.
"Steve, we all looked for the guy for two years and found nothing."
"We didn't bomb the UN. That turns a lot of heads."
"Yeah, but that doesn't guarantee that whoever framed him would get him. It guarantees that we would."
Quinn turned her head slightly as she struggled to understand every viable possibility of everything.
"That's impossible," Keira muttered, turning to Quinn.
"Maybe not."
The lights suddenly cut out, leaving the bright red flashes of the emergency lights in its place. Everyone quickly jumping to her feet.
"Sub-level 5, east wing," Sharon muttered under her breath.
"You two," Quinn called quickly gaining Steve and Sam's attention immediately. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do."
"Hard to do that when all you do if look after historical artifacts."
"Shut it, Wilson."
"Let's get you out of here," Keira said, pulling Quinn out of the room before all hell broke loose.

Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
