You smiled to yourself, you made your way over to Max's house. After all, it was his birthday! You wanted to surprise him with the gifts you got.
You had gotten him a box of chocolates, they were shape as hearts and were milk chocolate. You also heard he liked coffee, and got him extra fancy coffee.
You made your way over to his house and knocked at the door. You waited for a couple minutes when someone opened the door.
The man was taller than you, you look up and he gave you a stern look. He was wearing boxers, and a plain white shirt. He looked... Odd. Glancing behind him the house you noticed the house seemed to be a mess, glass everywhere, beer bottles on the ground.
You were honestly scared. Was this actually Max's house? If it was, you felt super bad.
"S-Sorry to bother you, but do you have a son?" You asked. He rolled his eyes. "A disgrace of one. But yes. His name is Max." The man states. "Can I speak to him?" You ask. He stares at you for a couple minutes. "Come... In..." He muttered, a bit rudely. "Oh- um, okay. Thank you. Where is his room?" You ask.
He points to a door, you nod your head and walk inside. Taking off your shoes you carefully walk inside making sure not to step on glass.
You knock on the door. "Go away." You heard a muffled voice say. "Max? It's Y/n."
The voice went silent. "Come in." You heard.
You slowly turn the door knob, and open the door.
You saw Max, sitting on a mattress on the floor. His room had clothes all on ground, and was a complete mess honestly. Either than his bed, there was nothing else in his room.

He had a laptop in front of him and his phone beside him. "Oh- It's actually you... What are you doing here?" He asked confused. You close the door behind you and stepped in.
"May I sit down first?" You ask. He nodded his head with a shrug. You sat down beside him. It was silent.
"So-" You cut off Max by hugging him. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" you yelled, pulling back you smashed your lips on his.
He kissed back, you slowly pulled back and smiled to him. "I got you a few somethings!" You giggle. "Really?" His cheeks heated up. "Of course!" You pulled out a box and handed him the heart box.
He opened it and saw one side full of chocolate and the other filled with.. His favourite expensive coffee brand?
"Woah- Holy shit- Thank you... Thank you so much." Max mumbled. He felt liked crying. He hugged you. You felt tears hit your back.
No one ever really got him birthday gifts, since he usually didn't tell his friends it's his birthday. His parents never got him anything, so Y/n getting him literally anything made him feel so happy
"Max are you... Crying?" You whisper. You pull back from the hug. His eyes were slightly red and puffy. He was crying. You also noticed he had a cut on his right cheek. "Oh my god! Max what happened?!" You gasped and put your hand on his other cheek.
He wiped his eyes. "It was nothing..." He mumbled quietly. "Please Max, tell me... You said you wouldn't lie." You plead. He sighs. "I'm not ready..." He mumbled. You sigh. "Okay, but just don't lie to me. Tell me when you're ready." You whisper.
...
The two of you chatted for a little while. "Do you play any instruments?" He asked. "Well no, but I really really wanna learn the violin! Too bad I don't have enough to get one... Oh uh, anyways. I've actually been wondering something." You state.

"Hmm?" He mumbled. "It's just- There was beer bottles and glass on the floor everywhere- I take it your parents are... Alcoholics?" You mumble.
He sighs. "Y..Yeah." He mumbled quietly. "I'm so sorry Max- Are you safe here? Like- do they... H..Hur-" "Yes." He mumbled angrily. "They hurt you-" "YES." He glared. You sat there. You sighed. You hugged him again.
"It'll be fine.. It will all be okay..." You whisper in his ear, you feel tears drop on your back. He was crying.
Now you get it, you understand why Max is mad all the time. You felt so bad for Max, you wish he lived a better life.
"I'm so.. so sorry for what happens in your home life. Thank you so much for telling me." You huh him tightly, and he hugs back even tighter. "T..Thank you.. So much..." He mumbled. "Without you- I.. I wouldn't be here today."
You froze, was he implying he'd be dead? Was he implying that he would..
"Oh my god Max I- I'm so sorry... I should have known..." You mumbled. You then realized something.
"But..." Max was confused. You pulled back.
You stared to the side quietly.. "Why didn't you tell me?" You ask, the emotion you were feeling was so hard to understand. He was silent.
"Why didn't you tell me?!" You turn to him, tears welling up in your eyes. You cared so much for him, why didn't he tell you? Why couldn't he? You could have helped, told someone, let him sleep at your house..
"Tell me Max, why didn't you tell me?!" You yell. He looked at his hands, which were in front of him. "I care so much about you- So why..? That bruise when we were at the amusement park, was them.. wasn't it? Why did you lie?! Do you not trust me? Is it because we only now are starting to get close-"

But the past has a way of rising again. A newborn whose very existence could mean intergalactic war. Now Brenn must balance her wife’s delicate mental health, new motherhood, and her own complicated feelings while working with her Captain and their odd bunch of friends and allies to protect her tiny family from a small, but influential group within the Aesir government who will stop at nothing to take back Brenn’s wife and child. All the while, there are whispers of a greater and more ancient power coming to life. A power Brenn’s wife knows more about than she wants to let on. It’s a good thing Brenn is used to fighting. CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.

Quest of the Seal Bearers - Book 1: The Warriors Return

Fantasma, leader of the global government, and his colleagues are determined to find cause of these attacks. but the search for answers points them to an ancient relic, The Book of War, a cursed artifact that can create indestructible creatures loyal to its master. It’s been over twelve thousand years since the Book of War was last opened. It was believed to be destroyed during the Great War by the Twelve Warriors and Daughter of the Sun at the cost of their lives. Now, it seems the book has resurfaced, and its new master is seeking to forever tip the balance of power. The stage is being set for another Great War but who can stop the Book of War once and for all? Meanwhile on Earth, the teen members of Greengale’s Action and Adventure Club are preparing for their yearly trip when they suddenly stumble upon a secret their parents have been keeping for years. Now their world is being turned upside down as they struggle to understand the legacy that ties their fate to Mendala and the Book of War. Is their destiny set in stone, or will they forge a different path? No matter what, their choices will bring forth a new era for Mendala. ------------------------------ If you love vast fantasy worlds, rich, fleshed-out characters, and a adventure where your'e constantly discovering new things along the way, then this is definitely a story you'll enjoy. This is a slow-burn high fantasy / adventure with many characters and intersecting plotlines. It’s a quest so lots of adventuring, exploring, and character moments, but not a ton of fighting/action (though there are definitely some great fight scenes as payoff to the buildup). Because it’s a fantasy world with lots of people and new concepts, I try to make it easy so that you don’t have to memorize anything. The narrative will constantly remind you of important people/places/concepts as you keep moving forward. Some things won’t be fully explained right at the beginning to avoid information overload. My goal is that the reader will learn things organically as the story progresses. I use two mechanisms to help with the intersecting plotlines. - Each chapter is named for the (main) plotline it’s following and which part. - At the beginning of the chapter, and anytime there is a scene shift, the location is listed. Also, though this is definitely a portal-fantasy (isekai) it’s different from the standard isekai, especially since the world transfer doesn’t happen immediately. It’s not Lit-RPG but characters gain powers and grow over time. Also, it’s a group of teens that transfer, not just one central character. All of the teens are distinct characters, with their own character-arcs, relationships, powers, growth etc. Hopefully you’ll find this interesting as you’ll see the world and story from multiple perspectives. The story is always in 3rd Person (Omniscient) POV so that it’s not jarring as perspectives shift.
