《Flower Shops [m.w]》Chapter 12

Lacey looked at her phone and saw a text from Harper asking if she could come in and write with Hardy and Morgan. He was the last person she wanted to see today after how he acted last night, and her dream, but she wasn't going to let that get in the way of her career, so she said yes. She was actually kind of excited. She had been working really hard on their duet and was excited to share it. She put on some natural makeup, jeans, and a flowy tank top with some booties and went on her way.

She got to the record and said good morning to Miss Jean on her way to one of the meeting rooms. Hardy and Morgan were already sitting down when she walked in.

"Good Morning boys" she said in a cheerful way

"Nice to see you again Lacey" said Hardy

Morgan said hey as well, but not quite as cheery as the other two

"Morgan here is a bit hungover" said Hardy, laughing

Morgan just flipped him off as a reply.

"So you've been working on He Went To Jared?" asked Hardy

Lacey nodded, making her way to the opposite side of the table and sitting down and pulling out her songbook.

"Yes, I've got an idea of what I think most part of the chorus should be, but I think it needs a little bit more. So what I've got so far is

He's got that clean cut, drivin' him a clean truck

I'm just sittin' here with a beer and my jeans tucked

He's tyin' cans on the bumper of a car

I'm tyin' one on, takin' it hard

Thinkin' about him there with a white horse and carriage

Nearly three karats, he went to Jared

I went to the bar

Yeah, I went to the bar

"Damn that's awesome Lacey" said Hardy, and even Morgan sat up a little, his face bright.

"Thank you. I just think it needs something before that. Maybe some thing about a blue collar job and then the city guy has a white collar one, or going off to college, somthin' like that"

"I've got an idea" Said Morgan, sitting up "He went to Ole Miss, I went to work. He pushes paper, I push the dirt. You like that Lace?" he said with a devious smirk.

Lacey gave him a glare and mouthed "are you fucking kidding me"

"I love it" said Hardy

As much as she wanted to say no, she knew it was a good line "Yea, it's good"

"Good? I think its great man!" said Hardy.

They wrote in the line and continued to bounce ideas off of each other for about two hours. Hardy had to leave so it just left Lacey and Morgan.

"Lace, I think we need to talk"

"There's not much to talk about" said Lacey, grabbing her things and walking towards the door. Morgan stood up and ran to the door, shutting it as she was reaching for the handle, trapping her between the door and him.

"Please, I just want to tell my side of the story"

Turning around to face him, Lacey felt her anger boiling up inside.

"Your side of the story?! YOUR SIDE OF THE FUCKING STORY!" she said, finally letting out her pent up anger. She gave him a slight push and raised up on her toes to get in his face.

"You told me you loved me, broke up with me and moved to Nashville, told me that you didn't want to peak to me, then wouldn't talk to me for a year! How exactly does you side of the story go? Huh?" she said tilting her head to the side, pushing him again so she wasn't pressed against the door anymore.

"I'm so sorry Lacey I- I just"

"YOU JUST WHAT?!"

"I LOVED YOU! Ok? I loved you but I had this amazing opportunity that I just couldn't pass up and I knew I couldn't bring you with me since you still had another year of school and your brother- it was complicated. But, I just had to tell you how I felt before I left, I -I just had to get it off my chest. I thought that if you were with me or we were still together, it would get in the way of my music" He said fast, almost stringing the words together, as if he had wanted to let his feelings out for a long time as well. He ran his hands through his hair, taking a deep breath.

"So you thought the best thing to do was to tell me you loved me then never talk to me again? Is that how you treat the people you love?"

"NO! I know I fucked up, Lacey I know that and I'm so fucking sorry. I was young with all these feelings that I had never felt before and I just didn't know what to do. Looking back I know I coulda handled it better. Please Lace, I'm so sorry" He said with pleading eyes. "Can we maybe just try to be friends? You were one of my best friends before well, everything and I miss that. I miss you Lacey"

"I don't know Morgan. You hurt me. I needed you after you know, that night. But you weren't there, you left"

A pained look crossed his face when she said that "I know" he said in low voice "I know that and I know it might never be the same as it was when we were younger, but can we at least try? Please Lacey, I miss you so fucking much"

Despite all the pain he had caused her, she also had so many good memories with him and if she was completely honest with her herself she missed him too. He used to be one of her best friends as well. So, despite her better judgment, she replied

"I'll think about it"
