《Marvel One-Shots》Don't Make Me Leave

Peter looked at himself in the mirror. He had a few new scratches from the bottle that May threw at him. May had gotten drunk again and had thrown bottles that shattered over the wall raining over his body. When she got like this she wouldn't let him eat either, "Your an ungrateful piece of shit! You know that right? Do you know how much I've done for you??" she screamed, and threw another bottle at his head. Peter started to believe those words. He wouldn't eat when he had the chance and he wouldn't sleep either. His hair was messy and his eyes had large bags under them. He was Spider-Man more and more because he couldn't stand to be around May.
"Peter? Your heart rate is increasing. Why?"
"Nothing Karen. What time is it?"
"It is currently 3:45am, I strongly recommend going to to sleep. Mr. Stark has asked you to go to the tower after school."
Peter smiled. Something he rarely did. The tower was the one place he laughed, where people cared about him. At school, Flash taunted him all day about how no one loved him. So when Peter opened his window around 4:00am, he didn't expect to see an angry May staring at him. "Oh my gods. I've been raising a freaking monster! Get of my house you freak. You've murdered so many people! Your not a hero. Get out" she said as venom soaked her words. Peter sobbed out but quickly grabbed his backpack and jumped out the window. He went to the top of an apartment building and fell asleep.

Tony was excited. Peter was coming over today and Tony was going to surprise him with new upgrades to his suit. He had all the programming ready, just had to wait until the kid got out. "Tony? Is the kid coming today? Your vibrating with excitement." Bruce said with a slight smile. Tony just nodded.

For the next few hours all the Avengers trained and played Wii, waiting for the little spider to come. When the elevator dinged, all their hearts dropped at the sight of him. His usually bright eyes were dull and tired and his hair was a mess. He walked past them all with a slight nod and sat on the couch.
"Hey Pete! Wanna do some pranking?" Clint whispered.
Clint frowned when Peter just looked at him with no emotion in his eyes. He gestured to the others that they all leave the room and talk about what happened to their teammate/nephew/son. As they were leaving a small voice could be heard, "please don't leave me."
Tony walked over to Peter and saw silent tears falling down his face. Tony wrapped a hug around the kid and felt tears form as his son sobbed into his chest. All the Avengers joined the hug and asked what had happened. "I..I got home from patrol. ..and May..she saw me. And she called me a monster and kicked me out" he said. All the Avengers looked around in shock. Since when did May act like this? "Peter? Did..did she hurt you?" Steve asked. All the others eyes widened, they hadn't thought of that. Peter opened his mouth to reply but all he saw were the bottles and the slaps he got. How she wouldn't let him eat. He managed to get some words out and the Avengers hugged him even harder. Clint called social services and told them the problem and how they would like to adopt Peter under Tony's name. He knew that Tony had been waiting for the chance to adopt Peter, but he never imagined it like this.
That night, all of them were on the couch watching Lion King, as it was Peter's favorite movie. Peter was starting to drift off, and he really needed he sleep. "Go to sleep Peter, we aren't ever going to leave you" Tony said. Peter closed his eyes, "thanks dad." Tony gasped and smiled. He held Peter close and almost cried. He looked up at the others and said "I have my son. I finally have my son."

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
