《Forbidden》4 | Sirens

Mine.

His hands were gripping my hips with possessiveness. His breath was hitting my face and my heart was beating so fast I thought it was going to burst. I wasn't able to describe how I felt, but my body was reacting in a strange way and I couldn't stop looking at him. I was mesmerized with him, my mate. I had finally found him.

I pressed my hands on his chest feeling slowly as I felt overwhelmed with the sensations our touch ignited. I couldn't believe it. Since I had been told that I was going to become the Luna very soon, I knew everything was already decided. However, this changed everything. It made me hopeful that maybe I had a chance to chose my destiny; his existence meant so much.

His eyes sparked, almost as if he were speaking to me. He leaned down, our faces inched closer, the pull bringing us together and I knew what I wanted. A piercing sound interrupted us, and I knew exactly what it was. The sirens.

"What is that sound?" he asked, and in a second his body shielded mine as he took a protective position waiting for a possible threat.

"The sirens." I whispered, knowing what they meant. "They are a piercing sound that only werewolves can listen to. They warn us when someone trespasses the territory and it means the trackers are already looking for an intruder. The pack members have to stay in their houses and..." my voice trailed off when I looked at his concerned face, a frown forming in between his eyes. His grip on my waist tightened, a low growl coming from his throat as he said, "Shit."

"You..." And then it clicked. "You are the intruder, aren't you?" I asked and stepped away from him confused as hell.

He stared at me quietly and nodded. "I am."

"Are you...are you a rogue?" I asked afraid of what he might answer because deep down I knew what it would be. There was a reason as to why I had never seen him in the pack before. I took another step away from him and hugged myself feeling cold all of a sudden. I had responded to him so quick, so lost in the connection we had that I didn't stop for a moment to wonder who he really was.

"No. I'm not from here though." he said firmly.

"You should go then, before they find you." I muttered nervously and started to make my way back to the road that led me to the Alpha House.

"Wait." He said and grasped my arm softly. I turned to him and almost melted at the touch. His eyes looks sad. He leaned to me and his nose grazed my cheek, "Can I see you again? I need more time, we need more time."

My wolf purred. Yes, please! Please! Listening her in my mind was still quite new, but I couldn't deny wanting to see him again.

"I...yes." I sighed defeated and he grazed my cheek again.

We heard voices not far away and I panicked. I pushed his chest, "If you want to see me again, you need to go, now!" I pleaded with my alpha voice, worried. Not knowing him, didn't mean that I wanted him to get caught. I knew the penalty for rogues that trespass the territory.

He gave me one last look that I felt all the way to my toes, and turned away. A second later his arms were rounding my waist and his body was pressed against my own. He dipped his head until his lips reached mine and kissed me, our lips moving in synch. His lips were soft as they moved against mine in a delicate way. It was sweet yet passionate, and like nothing I had ever experienced before. One moment he was there, overwhelming my senses and then, he was gone.

His touch faded as I saw him running into the darkness of the woods, away from me.

Wow. I smiled at my wolf's thought; this time, I agreed with her. That had been amazing.

I started to make my way back home and was almost out of the woods when someone grasped my arm.

"Ahh!" I screamed as I turned and saw one of the pack soldiers. "Oh god!" I gasped.

"Lady Serena," the soldier said and bowed his head with respect. I nodded acknowledging him, not used to that kind of treatment. Only the guard treated me like that, because I had not allowed my friends to keep doing it, once I was old enough to notice it was a stupid formality. "I'm sorry, I thought you were the intruder."

"Yeah I heard the sirens." I replied. "Any news on him?"

"No, but he will be find. Do not worry. May I accompany you to the Alpha House?" he asked politely.

"Yes." I answered with relief.

We both walked in silence and as we got closer to the house, more thoughts swirled in my mind. I didn't know how to feel about what had happened tonight, but I knew I certainly wasn't going to forget him, the blue-eyed man whose name was still unknown for me.

When we arrived at my house, I quickly thanked the soldier and went in.

"Serena!" my father's voice stopped me at the bottom of the stairs. I turned and there he was, dressed in his battle uniform. "Where were you?" he asked.

"At Liam's party." I replied.

"He texted me almost an hour ago saying you had returned home, I was waiting for you." he spat.

Crap. "Yes, but it was raining so it took longer to get home. I heard the sirens and one of the soldiers accompanied me, to make sure I got here safe."

He nodded. "Alright then. I'm heading out, probably won't return until tomorrow."

"Okay."

He was probably going to check the trespassing problem. "Dad wait..." He didn't turn, but stopped and waited for me to continue. "Did you find the intruder?" I asked trying to hide the concern in my voice. "I heard the sirens on my way here."

"No, but I will." With that he walked towards the back door.

I knew that look. He was mad. He hated intruders and rogues, because the last time one had trespassed our territory, my mom had been murdered. My dad arrived just in time to avoid me from having the same fate, but his mate was dead and his heart as well.

"Be careful." I said when the door closed.

Once in my room, I laid in my bed, tired, trying to picture how tonight had went and how it had ended. I touched my lips and remembered the kiss, his warmth enveloping me. I had liked it. One on side, a part of me wanted those lips to touch mine once more, but on the other side, I was scared. Scared of how alive and wanted I had felt when he had kissed me.

"What are we going to do?" I asked to my wolf and myself.

Wait for him, he belongs with us. She said and I rolled my eyes.

It seemed the more I thought of him the more my wolf awakened. Today was the most I had heard her on my mind, begging for him and even if I denied it, I knew she wasn't the only one excited to see him again.

"Aren't you guys excited to go back to school?" Eric said as the five of us walked to the Café.

"Oh god yes!" Rebecca exclaimed. "Just three months to finish senior year! Then we get to finally work at the Pack."

"Damn! If graduation is that close, I'll need to lose a few pounds, otherwise my dress won't fit!" Leila whined, and we all laughed.

"What about you Ser, aren't you excited?" Ben asked, and I felt everyone watching me.

I sighed, this was going to be hard, but I knew it was better to let them know now.

"After the break..." I continued. "I'm not going back to school."

"What?!" Most of them said, Eric was the only one speechless.

"Why not?" Ben asked before anyone else.

"The council decided that studying was worthless, when I already had a future decided. And what greater honor than to be the Luna, the leader of the pack."

"What about our Alpha? Is he okay with this?" I turned to Leila, who had asked.

"Yes, he insisted this was the best. Soon he'll chose Liam as my mate and both of us will..." I stopped. "You know the rest."

None of them knew the decision was already made and nobody knew I had found who my true mate really was.

"What? Why is he going to choose Liam? You barely know him, he can't choose him. You need someone who loves you and will protect you with his life. Someone like..." Ben stood up from his chair and stormed out of the Café.

"Holy..." Rebecca exclaimed. I stood up from my chair and threw some money to the table.

"I'll see you guys later."

I went out of the Café searching for Ben. I didn't know why he was so mad, but he was not the only one. I couldn't exactly refuse my dad's decision, because no one knew about... god! I should've asked his name.

I walked further through the streets, until I saw Ben in the communal park. He was sitting on the grass staring at it deeply in thought.

"Hey" I said and sat next to him. He turned to me and stared for a couple of seconds. "What's wrong?"

He shook his head. "Ben, I know you are hiding something." I held his hands between mine. "Please, tell me."

"It's just...I don't know how to explain it," his voice trailed off. "I'm sorry for yelling you back there."

"Don't worry." I said reassuringly.

"I was mad because when you told us that Alpha Charles had already chosen Liam as your mate, I knew I had lost."

"Lost what?" I asked clueless.

He closed his eyes before murmuring, "Lost any chance to win you. To be with you. To be your mate."

I was speechless. I never imagined Ben had feelings for me. He was my best friend, had always been and nothing more, but this.,..This changed everything.

He looks so sad, my wolf whispered.

"But, some part of me knew you've never been mine. All this time and you've never noticed how I feel..."

"Ben, I don't know what to say. I'm sorry." I said, because that was my way to tell him I didn't feel the same. I knew it might be seen as cruel, but I knew how determined he was. I knew how much it hurt, so I hugged him instead. "I care for you, I don't want to lose you."

"You won't Serena, I just want you to be happy and if being with Liam you are, then it's okay." he whispered in my ear.

"I barely know him. I mean, I don't even know his middle name." I said, and he laughed.

"I do." I smiled surprised. "You do?"

"Yeah, its Anthony."

"Wow, I'm starting to think you are the one interested." We both laughed.

"You are amazing, you know that?" he said in awe. I smiled and backed away a little.

"Why, thank you..."

The sirens interrupted me.

"Again?" Ben asked and stood up. He offered a hand and quickly helped me to stand up.

I tried not to worry but failed. There was a chance that the man from the woods, my mate, was being searched. I still didn't know if he had been able to escape last night.

"I better take you home." Ben said and grasped my hand, guiding me to his car.

"Is something wrong?" Ben asked for the fourth time while we were watching a movie in the living room.

"No." I said and faked a smile. The nerves where eating me up. It was almost midnight and my father hadn't returned home, not even Liam, that meant they were still out there, searching for...

Our mate, my wolf whimpered. What if he's in danger, what if they kill him, what if..

I stood up and startled Ben. "I'm going to bed."

"Okay, I'll stay here. If you need something, let me know."

I nodded. "I will, goodnight Ben."

As I headed to my room, I tried to stay calm and hoped for the best. But as I laid in bed and the clock tick by, I was still not able to sleep. I tossed and turned just thinking. What if, just like my wolf had said. Maybe I hadn't fully acknowledged that the unknown man was my mate, but it was impossible not to care. Not when the Moon Goddess had chosen him, who still was a mystery.

I heard my room door opened and didn't bother to open my eyes.

"I'm okay Ben, just go to sleep." I said waiting for the door to close, but it never did.

I turned to face it, but before I could shout, a hand was over my mouth. The person stepped closer and the moonlight allowed me to see who the hand belonged to.

It was him... awwww.., he came back. My wolf purred.

"Shh!" he whispered. "They can't know I'm here."
