《Love In Hell (D.D.)》1.24 Cleaning the House

We were all standing in front of the fence of the building. I had my knives in my hands.
The group was already armed and waiting for dad's signal.
Dad "Ready?"
Then he just opened the gate.
T-Dog, Daryl and i were the first ones who walked in.
I cut through the head of the walker. Then through another one. T-Dog, Dad, Maggie, Glenn, Daryl and i were all standing in a circle back on back.
We made it closer to the building.
Dad "Almost there"
He opened the first door and T-Dog backed him.
There were no walkers behind it.
Dad looked over the corner but then jumped back "shit"
We all backed up against the wall.
Daryl was aiming the crossbow at the walkers.
The 'guards' showed up but we couldn't really harm them because of their suits. I looked over to Maggie who was stabbing the walker funderom underneath the helmet. T-Dog's, Glenn's and my jaws dropped to the ground. I took my knives out. I grabbed a walker and stabbed it from underneath the helmet in it's throat.
Then we made it around the corner. Dozens of walkers standing there. I began to cut through heads. Suddenly i got pushed back and the gate from the little cage in front of me closed.
I looked up and saw Daryl.
The I breathed out "Thanks"
He nodded.
Glenn was going to open the other gate to let the others in but dad stopped him.
Dad "Stop!"
Glenn asked confused"Why? It's safe."
I looked at one walker closely "That's a civilian"
T-Dog "So the inside could be overrun with walkers from outside the prison"
I sighed "Means, there's a hole in a wall"
Glenn "and what are we gonna do? We can't fix these walls. We can't rebuild this whole place"

Dad shook his head "We can't risk a blind spot. We have to push in"
We followed dad up the stairs.
Daryl opened the door and Dad backed him.
We walked into the cellWe walked into the cell block. It was empty. No walkers.
Thank God.
Daryl and i made our way to the cells but the door in front of it was locked.
We heard keys jiggling and looked up. Dad let some keys dropp and Daryl caught them.
I grabbed the keys from Daryl and opened the cell block. We walked inside. Dad, Maggie and Glenn were checking here and Daryl and i made our way upstairs.
Dad caught up. We made our way through the railing. Suddenly i heard groaning. There were a few walkers in the cells trying to press through the doors but they were locked.
Dad and Daryl killed them.
-----------
The cell bock was clear.
Glenn had let the others in.
T-Dog was putting the bodies away.
Dad asked Mom "What do you think?"
Glenn chuckled happy "Home sweet home"
I walked to Carl who had my stuff and grabbed it from him "Thank you"
then i turned to Dad "Dad?"
He looked at me "hm?"
Me "you okay with me sleeping in one of the watchtowers"
Dad shook his head "no, we should stay together, at least till we made sure it's safe enough"
I groaned annoyed and walked upstairs. I put my stuff in one of the cells.
Dad "i found a set of keys on some guards. Daryl has a set, too."
Daryl shook his head "i ain't sleeping in a cage. I'll take the perch"
I was leaning against the railing.
The others were pairing up.
Mom put a hand on Dad forearm and thanked him but Dad ignored it and walked out.

Daryl laid down on the perch. I walked to the stairs. Well, it wasn't easy since Daryl was sleeping in front of them .
He looked at me.
Me "Move"
Daryl didn't move an inch.
I rolled my eyes and tried to walk over him down the stairs to dad.
Me "Hey"
He looked at me and i hugged him. He hugged me back.
Dad whispered into my ear "For what was that one?"
I whispered shrugging "You looked like you needed one"
Dad smiled "thank you, sweetheart"
Me "no problem"
I broke the hug.
Dad "Go lay down. "
I nodded "you should too""
He nodded.
I walked back up the stairs and over Daryl but he grabbed my ankle. I looked down at im with a -what-the-fuck- look.
Daryl "He said you should go get some sleep"
I rolled my eyes and laid down on the floor next to him. His arm was around my shoulders and my head on his chest. I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off.
------
I woke up without Daryl. I looked around. A few were still taking a nap. I stood up and walked downstairs and to the entrance of the cell block. Dad, Daryl, T-Dog and Hershel were standing around a table. The weapons of the 'guards' were on the table.
I yawned and sat down.
Daryl held up a helmet and shook his head "i ain't wearing this shit"
T-Dog held up a boot. Walker slime was dripping from it.
I put a hand over my mouth to stop myself from gagging too hard.
I groaned disgusted "come on, T.,not in my face. And why do we need that shit anyway, we got this far without it."
Suddenly Carol walked in "Hershel"
Dad looked at her"Everything alright?"
Carol nodded "Yeah, nothing to worry about"
Liar!
Hershel walked with her back to the cells.
------
I was helping the guys to get into the guard uniforms. Well, Dad and Daryl weren't really into that stuff.
Carl was putting on a helmet but it was too big for him and it fell off. I saw him smiling to Beth who was smiling back.
I rolled my eyes. Children.
Dad took the helmet away "You won't need that. Need you to stay put"
Carl's jaw dropped "You're kidding"
Dad "We don't know what's in there. If something goes wrong you could be the last man standing. I need you to handle things here. "
I chuckled at Carl's reaction.
Dad looked at me "Same goes for you, Ken"
My jaw dropped "what did you just say?"
Dad "You stay here with the others"
Me "Come on, Dad"
Dad "I wasn't asking"
Me "I get why Carl needs to stay put but why me? What did i do to you now?"
Dad took my forearm and led me a bit away from the group "You need to keep an eye on Carl and your mother"
I sighed, confused "Why don't you just talk to her?"
Dad "you know why"
I shook my head"It can't be like this forever"
Dad pleaded "Ken, please"
i gave in "fine"
Dad nodded "Thank you"
He gave me a quick hug and we walked back to the others.
Dad gave Carl his keybond.
I walked to Daryl.
He raised an eyebrow at me "yeah?"
I held my hand out "I want your keys"
Daryl scoffed amused "Why? think i ain't coming back?"
Me "you are coming back. Just give me your keys"
He rolled his eyes and gave them to me.
Me "Be careful"
Daryl nodded "You know me"
Dad "Ken, lock the door when we are out"
I nodded.
They walked out of the cellblock and i locked the door.
